In the dark, there was night, and upon that night, there was light, and from that light…

And blessed upon me, was the name...

☪ Unknown

☪ Quiet // ☪ Distant // ☪ Cold // ☪ Blunt // ☪ Clever

Nightengale can be seen as almost brooding, she seems dark and comes off as very mysterious. Nightengale is hardly shy and tends to distance herself away from others for their own protection despite her longing for company. Nightengale being alone most of her life has become very blunt, she only speaks the truth and doesn't really care if it hurts to hear it. She is rather clever and is always thinking ahead of any situation that comes before her, she is quick to think on her paws and rarely hesitates. In a sense she is also very lonely and can come off as cold, not having much company around she tends to be quiet. Overall Nightengale tends to hide herself away from others, and though she has a cold outlook on things, deep down she is rather curious about others.

I don't know who I am, or where I come from. All I remember was that light, and the voice who told me, "I bless upon you the name Nightengale, take your place, your job will begin soon." and that was all. The light vanished and I landed in a place all new to me. So my life began; my life as a shadow hunter.

I learned swiftly that life would not be easy, I discovered my powers when I was attacked, it all started on the night I had appeared. The night had fell upon me and I was in a forest. The trees were dark and bare of leaves, the ground was brown, ridden with dead grass and wilted weeds. The only animals to be heard were that of crows cawing, almost laughing at me. Rolling my eyes I sat down and started ahead, suddenly the air changed, I felt a cold wind.

σh the hero comes
I can hear the drums
And the horses drawn
To the kingdom come
Through the pale moonlight
Our hearts ignite to the call

¢laim your prize
For a crown of stars
In the name of love
Be the sacrifice
You and I will stand and fight
Our backs to the wall

иo escape
Let the fever rise
As our horses rage
And our goal's in sight
Maybe I'm the one
I'm the one who will fall

ay me down
On a bed of stone
I will wait for you
As I rest my soul
I will watch you ride
When you reply to the call

"Somethings not right" I mumbled knowingly, I soon wandered around the strange forest. My eyes widened as I looked at cold fog rolling in. Nothing could be seen all around. The mist was heavy in the air and it was hard to breathe. Inhaling slowly, my ice blue eyes squinted to see farther into the screen that lay in front of me, but it was so difficult, frowning I casted my gaze aside and noticed a light, it started off bright and then started to disappear.

I cautiously stepped forward towards the fading light. Before I made it to far, I was hurled back and slammed to the ground. I gasped for breath as the air was knocked out of me. The light faded away before me and a cold chill fell over, and I shivered at the sudden change in the temperature. Cold breathing fell to my side, I leapt up and got away from it, I turned around, but saw nothing, my breath still coming in ragged spurts. My eyes dilated in the darkness as I tried to regain my thoughts. "That was strange" I murmured quietly as I searched around.

Suddenly I was attacked again, I fell down again, and looked for what it was, but all I could see was a shadow moving here and there, weaving through the trees. I got up slowly and jumped when I saw it come closer again, wings spread from my sides causing me to go higher. My eyes widened seeing them, I was shocked for only a moment. It leapt at me again and I got a better look, a dark shadow, wolf in shape and red eyes that snarled at me.

I flew over it's head and landed behind it and shifted on my paws turning to face it, I bared my fangs, I didn't know what it was, or who it was, but I felt like I had to do something… but what? It charged at me snarling, I jumped and flicked my tail, a bit of paint fell upon the beast, it yowled in pain falling down. Light shone from the spot where my paint hit and in an instant I knew what I had to do. "Be Free." I uttered and whipped my paint at it once again, it let out a sharp cry and then was covered in light, it disappeared into ashes.

"Good work…" A wolf said padding towards me, I jumped and looked towards them. The wolf was a small pup covered in a thick black cloak; but from what I could see they had a green muzzle with blue markings, and blue hair, a curly blue tail to match with light whitish blue paint… “Who are you?” I questioned them, “My name is Oracle… and it’s okay I promise I will not harm you, what you just when through was a test” She said, my eyes widened and I realized then she was the wolf who gave me my name.

“Oracle…” I whispered, “A test? What kind of test? For what? Who am I?” I asked her the questions rolling off my tongue though I held back many more I wished to ask I left her with those first. “Your name is Nightengale, the rest if for you to decide, who you were in the past is not who you are now, you are a hunter of shadows, in this world there are many evils that go unseen and some one needs to get rid of them… that is you” Oracle explained, “Rainbow Paint Wolves are peaceful creatures now, but in their dark past they used to be vicious, and the shadows are memories of the past that still haunt the land, it is your job to rid the land of them, before they bring harm to the other creatures, you passed the test to decide if you were worthy of that job, and you are, your paint has the power to banish evil and set them free, use it wisely young one… from this day forth, you are the Hunter” She said.

I blinked, taking a moment to process what she said, I supposed I was in a way a Rainbow Paint Wolf, I had paint on my tail which she said could rid evil. “But why-“ I started to ask but when I turned to look at her again she was gone and I was alone once again. It has been that way since.

☪ My goal in life is not to be the one in the shadows… I want to be able to protect everyone, but at the same time, I want them to remember me, so I don’t become a shadow myself. I want to be someone that they can trust, someone who can stand up, someone not forgotten… I don’t want to hide, but everywhere I go shadows follow me. I don’t want anyone to get hurt because of me. I have watched over and taken care of others for centuries, now I want to be the Hero, but more then anything… I want someone I can call my friend.

Nightengale is afraid of becoming a shadow so under the light of the moon her markings have faded causing her to fear that she is changing into one of them.

Dark Visions

Night’s POV

I looked at him quietly, his name was Argo and he was a friend of mine… sort of, he came to the forest and got hurt by the shadows, I helped him tend to his wounds with the help of Theni. I looked over him quietly, he had been obviously hurt before arrival but I wasn’t sure why. He didn’t have any physical wounds so it didn’t make sense to me. “Are you well?” I asked quietly, “I’m fine.” He muttered quietly in return, it had been a few days, I kept him hidden near Ranewen’s cabin, and the shadows would never strike there. He rose up quietly, after getting to know him a little; I could almost tell he was troubled. I hoped anyways; I wasn’t good at telling emotions quite yet. “I suppose in a sense… I lost someone…” he said. I blinked a bit and turned to him, “Perhaps I could help you find them?” I asked, “No, I don’t mean like that kind of lost.” He said, “Oh.” I muttered.

He got up slowly, “You shouldn’t move.” I uttered to him, he glanced back, “I’ll be fine.” He said nodding his head, I blinked, “But you are hurt.” I followed quietly, he flicked his tail, “I’ll be fine, just let me go for a bit, I want to be alone for a while.” He said, “It’s daylight anyways.” He muttered. I frowned more, “You still shouldn’t be alone… listen I know you are hurting, your heart is aching.” I spoke softly but to no avail.

“What would you know about losing someone you loved!” He yowled at me angrily causing me to jump back, something in the way he said it caused my heart to ache. I put my hand over my heart and felt it twist… I never had anyone to really love before, so why do I feel like I did? I turned away quietly folding my wings to my back tightly, “I don’t…” I said quietly avoiding looking at him, it really hurt what he said but I couldn’t admit it to him. He was the one hurting not me, it wasn’t fair for me to try and help when I didn’t understand. Right? “I’m sorry.” I said before I started to walk away, his grey eyes softened almost instantly, “Wait…” he said reaching out taking my hand gently into his own, “I’m the one who should be sorry… I shouldn’t have yelled at your like that.” He said holding onto it. I flinched as he did and didn’t bring myself to look at him.

“It’s okay.” I said quietly to him, the fire burning in my eyes I couldn’t let him see, I pulled my hand away and spread my wings taking off into the forest before he could see more, I could feel the darkness spreading, it was painful for me. I wanted to leave the forest, but I was trapped within the domain, so long as the keepers were gone, I was stuck. Hours passed before I wanted to return, I knew I had to though… Argo would die without me; the negative thoughts racing through his mind would draw the shadows like moths to a flame… darkness descended. I hoped I wouldn’t be to late.

Argo let out a loud yowl, my ears perked and I landed swiftly, flicking my tail to knock away a shadow, I growled lowly, “Get back!” I yelled at Argo who quickly nodded and moved back away from me, “To the cabin!” I snapped he flicked his ear and ran towards the cabin, the shadows hissed at him but I let out a commanding howl to distract them. Soon they forgot all about Argo as I let my own negative thoughts give way.

There was one to the left… one to the right… I wasn’t sure if I would make it out alive, they were everywhere, I let out a growl of warning towards them, and they countered with a hiss of their own, “Very well…” I muttered quietly and flicked my tail, “I won’t die today…” I warned them as I jumped after them, the shadows were smart enough to dodge to cover as I lunged for them. One tackled into my side and I rolled with him landing on my back I let a small smirk dance across my face as I used my legs to push them off roughly into a tree. It yelped in pain as it started to fall and I rolled back flinging my tail and launching paint right into it’s face causing it to disappear with a loud screech. I let out a sharp huff as another one tackled right into my chest I rolled back winded for a moment shaking my head to gain some sense. It hissed and bit onto my shoulder I let out a gasp of pain before I turned a bit onto it, the darkness burning my mouth but it was the only way to get it to let go… it was being smart by staying in front of me.

It hasn't always been this way
I remember brighter days
Before the dark ones came
Stole my mind
Wrapped my soul in chains

Now I live among the dead
Fighting voices in my head
Hoping someone hears me crying in the night
And carries me away

Set me free of the chains holding me
Is anybody out there hearing me?
Set me free
- Casting Crowns

As I let go it did as well, I glare at it quietly flicking my tail armed and ready to strike, but how could I with it predicting my moves… how could it do that? The shadows had always been mindless, but this one appeared calculating and anticipated, it watched the mistakes of the other shadow and learned from them. What was this creature? I growled a bit and launched myself at it turning at the last second and used my tail like a whip, the shadow hissed and dodged out of the way. “Nightengale!” Argo yowled towards me, my eyes widened as he came out, the shadow turned to him; he was so close… “Argo!” I screamed as the shadow lunged towards him, without thinking I pounced grabbing onto the shadow biting into it’s side though it burned we both barreled away from the dark blue form of Argo. His eyes widened as he tumbled and for a moment I was down, I felt such a raging anger inside of me. I gasped, my world shattered before my eyes, everything I knew was gone; it faded into darkness, flashes of red, bones and a massive dark wolf rampaged through my mind and suddenly it stopped… and I was the shadow.

“N-Night?” Argo pronounced hesitantly moving slowly towards my fragile form lying in the dirt only a few feet away from him. He moved closer and closer, his arm reached out brushing his hand against my wing I felt something inside of twist with a pained sensation. I jumped awake gasping and almost coughing for air I had been so shocked by the impact that I had stopped breathing for a moment. “Are you okay?” he asked confused, I groaned quietly, what had happened to me?

I looked up hesitantly my eyes covered slightly in the black mist that usually seeped out slowly. I nodded hesitantly, “A-Ah yea…” I muttered getting up slowly, I looked around for the shadow but it was gone. “Did it run off?” I asked looking back at Argo now that my vision was clearing, he shook his head, “No it disappeared after you tackled into it and rolled, I figured your paint got on it.” He explained. That didn’t make sense I would have felt it be absorbed. One thing was clear… the shadows were getting smarter, more dangerous, “I think you should leave.” I suggested to him, he had become a friend to me, and I didn’t want to lose him. “But what of you?” he asked, “I will be fine Argo, I was made a hunter for a reason, I can handle the shadows, you cannot.” I said quietly. “I’ll take you to the gate in the morning.” I said leading him back to the cabin, “Stay here with her, and go inside this time.” I said, Argo was about to object when the elder wolf growled from the doorway.

“Get in already.” She snapped at Argo who flinched and headed towards her, Ranewen turned to look at me, though her eyes were blind I could tell she was wise enough to know. “Stay out hunter, the shadows are unwelcomed here.” She said bitterly closing the door. I looked away, she always said that me, though I was not a shadow. Was I? Turning away from the cabin I spread my wings taking off into the night sky; I didn’t want to admit afraid of becoming a shadow but under the light of the moon my markings have faded, I was nothing but darkness…

I was afraid.
