Forever - Jeff Williams feat. Casey Lee Williams'Don't leave me...'
A soft, quiet sob.
'What will I do if you leave me?'
A painful howl to the stone-cold heavens.
There was no reply. There would never be a reply again.
Nothing left to do, he returned to his half-life in the grit and soil of the city. Dragging his limp tail behind him, a useless limb so far from the water.
Can you see him? The pup so grey in coat and emotion that he simply blends into this city of ash and filth, a place for only the unwanted? Perhaps he will be easier to spot later, when his pelt is stained crimson with blood drawn by kings of the beggars, his new-found silence, the kind only great loss can bring, providing him little armour.
Asleep in a ditch he prays will keep him safe, he dreams of her words, her last advice, an effort to continue to protect him like she had in life.
'Be my armoured warrior.'
But it is not easy to build armour, and harder to be a warrior.
First the silence, that had not worked, it was only tinfoil, covering his thoughts from the hunters that stalked him.
Second, the name, badly read from the foil of something discarded and partially remembered through dream. It had given him strength, but it did not stop them, they cared little for names.
He would need to build his armour with sturdier things, things of bone, of blood, of fear.
It took him many defeats, many losses, many beatings, to so much as lift his paw in retaliation. But, once the hate began to flow, it quickly ran into a river, and soon, into an ocean.
He entered this city a weakling, a runt.
He left it a king.
