A short story :
Slowly Aristotle ascended the hillside, a gentle breeze playing about his mane. The playful squeals and thunderous hoofbeats receded behind the stallion, replaced by the peaceful music of crickets singing in harmony. Raising his head, lavender eyes began to scan the darkened sky, reflecting the soft glow of the stars. No more than a yearling, many found it odd that he disliked to play with the others but instead stargaze, alone, with nothing but the vastness of nature surrounding him.
Now, upon finding his target, the constellation humans had dubbed Orion, Aristotle did an excited dance, prancing back and forth along the edge of the hill. A small squeal of delight escaped his lips, momentarily giving him a childlike nature. However, he soon halted, purple eyes fixing on his target eagerly. Aristotle observed the cluster of stars for what seemed to be hours, gaze never wavering, oblivious to the world surrounding him. Only when a shooting star whizzed through the night did his trance break. The stallion tossed his head and squeezed his purple eyes shut tight. Thoughts whirred through his mind; what should he wish for?
I wish for someone who shares my love for stars, a true friend who understands. Aristotle thought, slowly opening his amethyst eyes. A deep sigh slipped past his lips, only audible to the stallion. With a brief toss of his head, he took off at a halfhearted gallop, slamming to a halt, eyes locked once more on the starlit sky.
Aristotle watched the sky for a rather long period of time, only jerking his head on occasion to rid himself of mosquitoes. So lost was he in the map of the sky that he did not notice the small figure creep close to him. Aristotle lowered his head, blinking sleep from his eyes; upon doing so, he noticed the filly.
Despite the darkness, Aristotle could tell she was young, not much younger than he. Her pelt was of a deep palomino, her eyes a delicate frosty blue. However, what intrigued Aristotle most was not her eyes nor her coat: it was where her gaze was locked. On the sky, much like his had been moments ago.
Seeming to sense the stallion's gaze, the filly swiveled her head, eyes peering into Aristotle's. A faint smile played about her muzzle, making Aristotle do the same.
"I see you too love the stars?" Aristotle asked, voice quiet and calm. She nodded vigorously.
"Oh yes, I love them." she spoke excitedly, bouncing in place. She slowly calmed. "Might I ask your name? I'm known as Mila." she said.
"Aristotle." the stallion replied, dipping his head. "Perhaps you'd like to stargaze together tomorrow?" Mila nodded.
"I'd like that, very much."
Aristotle could not help but beam.
The stars had heard his wish and granted it-- or so Aristotle liked to believe.
