TIER 2Choosing the Discipline
• HalterDiscovering the Discipline
Because Finley had difficulties with captivity, his care takers where never able to get him to cue train but he did become very loyal to those he trusted. He would follow them around and because he liked water so much cleaning him was very easy. His caretakers decided to try putting him in some shows because of his beauty. He had no issues, as long as the person handling him was a well known friend.Training Experience
Days passed since Finley's arrival, his fear of humans apparent as he stood in the round pen, his ebony coat a stark contrast to the sun-drenched enclosure. At first, his caregivers merely stood in his presence, allowing him to acclimate to their scent and movements. They spoke in soft tones, their voices a soothing melody amidst the whispers of wind and chirpping of birds.
With each passing day, they introduced new elements to their interactions. They offered him treats, their hands extended with patience and kindness. At first, Finley hesitated, ready to flee at any moment as his instincts urged caution. But as he tasted the sweetness of a variety of different treats and felt the gentle touch of their hands, his fear began to melt away.
Slowly but surely, Finley began to trust. He approached his caregivers willingly, especially when offered salmon. Though his movements tentative he was filled with curiosity. As the days turned into weeks, his bond with them grew stronger, his fear replaced by a sense of security and belonging. Though the scars of his past remained, he found solace in the presence of those who had shown him kindness and compassion.Main Event
TIER 3Traumatic Event
Poachers killed Finley’s mother when he was 2 years old. He was old enough to fend for himself which encouraged the lead stallion to try to drive Finley away but he often fought with the lead stallion to protect his mother and 2 month old brother. Unfortunately she had been killed while Finley had been out grazing with some of the other herd members. Unable to feed his younger brother and no mare’s to care for him, Finley’s younger brother eventually starved under his care.
With no one to protect, he was soon driven out by their lead stallion to find or make a herd of his own but he never did. He wondered through the grasslands and swamps alone. Eventually he was captured, not by poachers but by a group of merchants, and sold into captivity where a very good caretaker spent her entire savings just to be sure, a rarity such as him, would remain in a good home. Once she gained his trust, she trained him to competed in a select few of events and competitions, but she was never able to completely tame him to do cue training. His beauty won him many awards. He was always wild at heart but also enjoyed life in captivity as he was treated well and resources never seemed to be scarce. Finley remained an independent soul but fiercely loyal and protective to the foals and fillies, even preventing his caretakers to aid them at times.
Poachers nearly drove Striders to extinction in the wilds. This was due to the rare materials found in their anatomy and beautiful wither feathers, which they would hang in an array of displays around their hearthstones. Due to his rare coat he was lucky he was taken out of the wilds otherwise he too would have been poached.Bullet Point TimeLine
