Isle of the Blessed // Kiskadee
Female
Matching her eyes please cx

[I chose to write it in blank verse, as I believe the heartbeat-esque sound of the iambic pentameter relates back to Kiskadee well]
The sunlight hits his feathers and he burns
Like a phoenix, like a flame, he smolders
And his thin shadow scorches the wet grass
And Kiskadee watches him, enraptured,
Imagining ash falling down on her.
Aero calls to her, the sound carrying far
And she begins to run, shouting to him
"Fly, Aero! Fly!" The words leave her breathless
But she is happy, and he is blazing
With light and freedom and sudden bliss.
Their afternoons are often like this one,
Souls separated by a slight shadow
And they are at peace only together.
Kiskadee doesn't mind this; there's something
About watching him that gives her wings too.
Her show name comes from a story in Greek mythology. When people died their souls went down into the Underworld, oftentimes to the Asphodel Meadows. They would wander for eternity there, among the blood red flowers. The best people however went to the Elysian Fields, a land of great peace and prosperity. Everybody was happy there but should you so choose it you could be reincarnated to return to Earth. If you lived a second kind and compassionate life you would die and come back to Elysian Fields and be offered reincarnation once more; and should you live three generous and happy lives the final time you died you were taken to the Isles of the Blessed. This was where all the Greek heroes dwelt, Achilles and Patroclus, Virgil, Hercules. This was a place filled with the grandest souls. Her colors remind me of paintings in which the Isle of the Blessed are represented, all soft golds and a few bold colors throughout.
Her barn name comes from a bird called the Great Kiskadee. They are a member of the flycatcher family and are renowned for their clever tactics; they thrive in urban settings because they are smart enough to take food from humans and domesticated animals. They are also well-known for their defensive behavior, in which they'll attack far larger raptors who are bothering them. More can be read on them here.

Kiskadee was scarcely a weanling when she first ventured too far from her mother's side.
She got lost in the tangled growth of the old forest, her thin hooves slipping in the muck, vines and leaves clinging to her spindly legs. She tripped continuously, righting herself just only in time, kicking mud up on her chest and throat. She was smiling though, too young to be afraid yet, more interested in the adventure of it than the potential danger.
She had gone not far yet when she heard the calling of a flycatcher. It sounded distressed, its notes high-pitched and whining left and right; and she spied it quickly enough, whipping through the branches, its slender wings fitting just perfect in the narrow spaces.
Kiskadee stopped to watch it. She was breathing hard, her exertion from the woods taking its toll, and when she'd finally caught her breath the bird had turned and gone away. She ventured into the clearing it had been circling, picking her way carefully between the thistles, and even cautious she still nearly stepped on a small lump on the ground. She retracted her hoof just in time, half-stumbled in the sudden interruption of her balance, scraped her shoulder on the rough bark of a tree that righted her. When she leaned down to look at the muddy shape she realized with a jolt that it too was a bird, far smaller than the one she had seen flying, its brilliant colors obscured by gunk.
“Little aeronaut?” She said worriedly, using the word her aunt had given her the day before without thought. (“An aeronaut,” the old mare had said placidly, “Is someone who rides in a plane or a balloon or an airship. They're the ones who get to the see the world from different perspectives, Kiskadee.”) “Aero?” She said louder, ever so gently touching her nose to the bird's shivering chest. “Are you alright?”
She started when the bird suddenly flipped onto its feet, nearly turned tail and ran back the way she'd come when it flapped its wings and shouted loudly. But she didn't, scarcely managed not to, and the bird quieted quickly enough. In fact it stared up at her as though she had been the one to startle it and not the other way around.
“Hello there,” she said, tentatively at first and then upon taking a deep breath, “I'm Kisakdee.”
The flycatcher tilted his head and peeped at her. When she did not take another step back he peeped a bit louder, and then he took a few stumbling steps and flew up onto her shoulder. Her skin twitched instinctively and he nipped at her as he had to right himself, fluffing his feathers with a disgruntled noise.
Kiskadee laughed. She turned her head to see him best she could and asked, “You alright there now little aero?” He fluffed up more, tucked his beak securely against the downy feathers of his chest. Kiskadee smiled at him. “Were you just a bit stunned? I think your mama left, so I hope you're doing okay now.”
The bird made no reply, and in fact seemed to be sleeping. Kisakdee settled on beginning to walk back home, and eventually the flycatcher scooted up her neck to fist his tiny feet in her short mane. They walked in silence. When Kiskadee was still some miles from home she said, “If you're planning on staying I'm gonna call you something. Something like Aero.”
Aero replied with a sleepy sort of cheep, not rousing enough to even open his eyes. Kiskadee took that as glowing commendation and laughed again, saying, “Well okay then, Aero. I guess I'm gonna be your mama now.”

Poem:Oh, baby, we're alright,
Just keep holding me tight,
But you keep passing me by,
Was it all just a lie?
Can you not see my tears,
Can you not feel my fears?
I just want to feel your love,
But maybe you aren't my dove.
Sometimes I just want to fly away,
But I have to stay.
I could go crazy if not for my friend,
Always reassuring, not letting my mind bend.
My name might mean light,
My pelt might be bright,
But my lovers often leave me in the dark,
Giving my heart just one more mark,
Until finally it will shatter.

Halter Color: Same color as the bird that is included
Poem: Tranquil days of the world
A sunrise and a sunset each night
some more colorful than others
Purples, blues, pinks, and oranges
fill the sky showing a new day either coming or going
People may not take notice but the creative ones do
the ones that want to paint a picture of the sunset to remember
to remember the beauty that their eyes witnessed.

show me the sky in the middle of the night,
the beauty that will make me feel just right.
don't let me fall asleep with you,
fore then I may miss the beautiful hue.
I'll venture in dreams so real and true,
but dear don't worry I'll return to you.
when you need me friend just call,
and I'll be there to shelter your fall.
I love you and you know that too,
and you love me, I'll see it's true.
when shall we meet again my dear?
you do know it's quite lonely here.
when, you see, you meet me,
I'll keep you near my side for eternity.

To the bottom of the ocean
