Briefly, in a haze of clarity, Erro remembered. He remembered the white wolf with the piercing blue eyes that had stalked into his yard and spoken to him in a deep, soft, gentle voice.

Flash Back

Erro trotted through the pasture. He had let himself out, carefully pulling up the latch and slipping away from the others quietly enough that they hadn't woken up. He wouldn't normally do something like this, but he needed an escape for the moment. He knew the humans were fighting, and many of his barn-mates had been taken to help. He was just glad he was still on farm duty. He could never take loud noises or lots of people. He backed up, and then sprinted forward, throwing himself over the fence. A glance back was all Erro spared before continuing on straight into the forest.
