Cat's name & why: Bird
Bird got his name from the way he likes to sit on Vito, making himself comfortable in perching on his back or head. he'd done it since he was a kitten and actually small enough to do so though know that he's bigger, it doesn't stop him from riding around on Vito's back or head keeping balance like a bird. he's lazy and would much rather hitch a ride than walk along with them. along with the matter of perching on them, Bird was originally found as a yowling kitten after upsetting a rather large crow that wouldn't leave him alone after disturbing it's nest. Vito decided that simply "Bird" would be the best name for their perching companion.

non-binary, they/them pronouns.
▏▏Cat's name & why:
venus has always been a fan of history. specifically, ancient civilizations.
their guilty pleasure was indulging in ancient history and wistfully
imagining their life in the past. venus has time and time again proven to
show off their hobby, even at their job. venus worked at the pound for
about 3 years. they loved every animal they saw, but one female kitten
caught their eye. the kitten came in as a stray a few days ago. it
wouldn't participate in playing, would eat alone, and preferred not to be
around plumerians. venus decided to get the kitten used to plumerians
that they would bring the kitten home. one night, venus woke up to a
noise in their study room. the kitten was rummaging around their papers
and books in the egyptian history section. panicked to get the kitten off
the statues and replicated artifacts, venus accidentally knocked a statue
of the cat goddess, bast, off a shelf. venus looked at it for a moment and smiled.
that's the name!

Name: Artemisa
Gender: Female
Cat's name & why: My name is Artemisia. Like the Greek goddess of hunting and wild animals, Artemis. My parents saw how attracted I was to the outdoors, hence naming me after her. You see the cat on my back? That's Hermes. Let me tell you his story.

I was hiking, naturally, when I found him. He was just a small kitten, alone and shivering, skinny with dirty fur. I picked him up. The kitten squeaked out a high-pitched meow, batting his paws at me. I smiled. Taking a white towel from my pack, I wrapped it around him and stroked his muddy orange fur. Tucking him into my pack, I zipped it up until his little head was just sticking out and began to head home.
I named him Hermes, after the Greek god. Myths say that he was a trickster. And oh, my cat loved to prank.
He would often get stuck halfway up the curtains, then fall on my head as I came to help him. Other times he might act asleep and jump at me as I came by. But Hermes did- and still does- all this with forward ears and a happy expression. So me and my cat still live, taking hikes every so often.

Username: Alei
Name: Zuriel "Zuri"
Gender: Male
Cat's name & why: Mafia

[ spoken through the viewpoint of Zuriel ]

Ha, yes. The name is Mafia, although it's not quite what it seems.

No, no. I take no part in what meaning the word has come to nowadays, although it always draws quite the laugh.
"Mafia?" They ask, giggles withheld but the telltale smile curving up their lips in amusement. "After the criminal organizations?"

Wow. Haven't heard that one before.

So then, instead of getting irritated, I beam at them, excited to tell them my tale.

And so now, shall you hear.

----

The official birth of the word "Mafia" remains to be largely a mystery, but there are many ideas as to how it started, and one such way is how I decided to use the name.

You see, being a historical playwright, there was once a time when I had to go through the laborious hours of uncovering and reading about long-ago plays.

One of these works that I uncovered was titled "I Mafiusi di La Vicaria." It was written by a Sicilian writer named Giuseppe Rizzotto in 1863, and became so loved and well-known that it was performed well over two-thousand times over the course of twenty-three years throughout Italy.

Of course, I do not wish to bore you with an incessant history lesson on what I'm sure you find as terribly exciting as I do, so I will attempt to slim down some of those pesky names and dates to give you what I really took away from the play and why then it became the name of my wondrous feline companion.

The word Mafia is thought to be a slang word from the original adjective of Mafiusi, as used in the name of the play (although I awkwardly find it necessary to mention the word was never mentioned in the play at all, instead it is thought to have simply added flair for an element of drama). What I really take from the play, however, is not the actual script (which is subsequently about a formation of a prison gang- how adequate) but the derivation of the word. Although many historians differ, especially after the translating of the word into several different languages, "mafiusi" was roughly translated to be meant as "boldness" or "bravado." How fitting, then, for it to be the name of the mostly solitary, strong image of a feline. However, when left in the native tongue, it it said to be meant as "arrogant" and "fearless" for a man, but "beautiful" and "attractive" when mentioned towards a female.

What a word, one that can so simultaneously mean those vastly different things? And yet, as I thought about it, the more beautiful the word sounded. One side of a coin, fearless and bold, while the other side was soft and attractive? It reminded me of how many of those around us live their lives trying to find the balance of the two.

So when I came across a dejected creature in a side alley, a ball of bold but dirtied flaming fur, I took it in and gave it the name of Mafia.

To symbolize the changing and ever-evolving balancing of fear and beauty, of honor and subjectiveness that everyone struggles to find after being dusted off of the dirty ground and opened their innocent eyes to the world around them. How it will be their companion forever, as Mafia has been to me.

Quite a dramatist's view of life, I suppose, but then again, it is my life's work.

user ; binaryo! nice to meet you ;v; (i'm changing it to Madame Vi)
name ; this is vanic. he likes the nickname vanny.
gender ; male -> though he is questioning agender
cat's name & why ; he named the cat samuel.
it's a tacky name, but when he adopted the cat,
he couldn't help but think the name samuel.
and if he tried using a different name, it didn't feel right.
        ・ ·̩ 。 ☆ ゚。 ・ ·̩ 。 ☆ ゚。
      *   。*  +   *  ・ 。☆☆   *   *   。*   *   。

         ゚・ 。゚・ ☆゚ + * 。* + * ・ 。
so he stuck with samuel. he and samuel get along very well,
aside from samuel meowing his ears off when he's hungry and
vanic is sleeping. vanic doesnt really appreciate that. at all.
but he loves samuel all the same, and samuel loves him aswell.

Name: Kieran

Cat's name & why: Fluffy. Yep, Fluffy. Probably the most used cat name ever but Kieran doesn't care. Now, you're probably wondering how she got that name, huh? Let Kieran tell you the tale.
" It was just a normal morning on the walk to town. I was walking down the small alleyway, between two houses, when this 'lil cutie came rushing towards me, meowing loudly. I thought to myself, that's some posh cat!, 'cause she was wearing a real expensive looking collar with these gemstones and things on it, yeah? She was obviously not from around here, probably. This isn't posh at all! Just moved here, I thought. I gave her a little stroke and pet, and walked on. Then she meowed again, and sprinted on after me. I didn't want her to follow me in case she got lost, so I started to run to curb her enthusiasm. I managed to get away from her, and when I came back home from town, she was nowhere to be seen. Then the next time I went out , I ran into her. And then the time after that. And then again and again. Must've known her for about a month or two at that point. Over those weeks, I noticed her getting skinny, scruffy and she wasn't wearing her collar. I decided to buy food for her, as she began to look and act like a stray, nervous around other Plumerians, and cats, getting into little scraps with them. I remember, I was walking to get a train to another village, when I saw her lying in a Bush, starving, and looking like she was half dead. From then on I made an oath to myself to look after her. Whenever I went to look for her, I called out 'Fluffy'. I guess that is how she got her name, apart from being insanely fluffy and adorable. It just stuck. One day I was looking for her, and suddenly she followed me home, and ever since that day, she's been with me."
(please do not copy story as this is based off the story of my cat!)

    Devastation, Destruction, Distraught.
Probably the three best words to describe what I opened my eyes to after the blast. Although, I guess you could say it was one of those moments where everything slows down and it's in like cool slow motion. Except it wasn't cool at all. You could say it was one of the worst moments of my life.

    I'd failed.

A lump a grey fur with two blinking eyes, smiling across lazily at me as we lie head to head in our bed. Mother's been gone awhile now, but we're fine. We're together and if anything happens we'll be safe together. Forever and just like always.
A lump of grey fur and two blinking eyes, glaring in mock anger as I shove him over and pin him to the dirt. Rough play makes us stronger, but I make sure he's never truly hurt when he yelps out in pain. Forever and just like always.
A lump of grey fur with two blinking eyes, sliding across to me with the look of mischief shining on his face. We charge on a silent signal. The box toppling over and a weeks worth of top food pickings dropping at a helpless delivery guy's heels. Soon to be stolen away by the surviving duo. Forever and just like always.

A lump of grey fur with two unblinking eyes, staring eerily up at the sky. The sky reflecting the grey of his fur as smoke drifts higher. It's silent, but of course it's not silent with cries and screams coming from all over. The only thing to break the silence in my ears was to be his last breath.

But of course that wasn't it, otherwise this wouldn't be the story of how Ichiru got his name.

A ginger cat was the first to approach in the aftermath of the blast, his chubby paws gliding over the rubble and remains. He approached me and took up a position that imitated that of a guard. Just like my brother had done for so many years. Me and the cat worked independently, but also together as a team as I hauled my fallen brother through the streets and towards his final resting place. I could say it was all a blur, but it wasn't exactly that. The journey was slow, painful in many ways and a constant ringing threatening to take over. However the cat followed and was perhaps the only thing that kept me on my feet.

Then as we lay by the fading warmth of his pelt, I felt the cat stir from his watch post to move next to me. He curled up in a small gap between me and my brother. That's when It dawned on me that this was something more. This cat had some sort of connection. As I looked from the dark, worn pelt of my fallen brother to the widely contrasting and supposedly full of life fur of the cat beside him I knew that this was, as cheesy as it sounds, a new chapter.

I named the cat in my brothers honour, as he had turned up in my final moments with the one who had always been with me, Ichiru.

Who knows how many tales my brother will live on to tell? Whatever happens, we'll be together. Forever and just like always.

    Cat's name & why: Rusty.
Eleanor had always been obsessed with the Warrior Cats series by Erin Hunter as a child, due to the her already huge love for cats. And while her family had several cats, none were really her responsibility. So when she turned ten, and was deemed responsible enough to get a cat, a ginger was her first choice. And while her mother didn't really come through, she loved the cat regardless. After all, you can name a white and ginger tabby molly after the infamous plain ginger tom cat of ThunderClan.

sorry! dropping out for a few other contests.
