Kias Owned: I am a non-owner who halfheartedly tried out for a handful of Kias before they moved to dA. I have never owned nor co-owned a Kia or Microkia, though I've always admired the species from afar. None have ever caught my attention like this one, and so this will be my first serious attempt at a Kia tryout.

Name: Anthea (ann-tay-a)
Gender: Female
Age: Young Adult
Sexuality: Anthea's not a fan of labels, but would most accurately be described as demi-homosexual.

Personality:

Anthea thinks that she can fix anything and everything, so long as she sets her mind to it; she can change things with sheer determination alone. She forges her own path in the world, and looks down upon those who leave everything to fate. And she refuses to admit, even though she knows secretly that it's true, that her broken family will never be mended.

Anthea is a daydreamer who gets far too involved in her own fantasies. She spends a lot of her time thinking of how she's going to change her life for the better, plotting everything down to the last detail. She builds elaborate plans that she doesn't quite realize are unreasonable. And when it comes time to set those plans into action, she finds herself heavily discouraged by every small, though inevitable, failure. She gets extremely frustrated when a plan completely flops, but even more so when others won't go along with an idea that she's dead-set on. She's very passionate about her ideas, and doesn't take it kindly when others reject them. She's a highly sensitive Kia who takes every insult or critique as a serious blow.

Her constant sensitivity manifests itself into stress. This means that Anthea's almost always anxious and overwhelmed, but fortunately (or perhaps unfortunately), she masks it well. In fact, very few Kias have the ability to detect if she's upset, because she seemingly remains upbeat all of the time. Eluvian is the only Kiamara that seems to have a keen ability to read her emotions. She developed this trait, this ability to mask her true emotions, whilst living with Anora in her mansion. She knew that if she showed any signs of distress, she would receive no comfort from her mother. So instead she bottled it in.

Because she has never been very open about her emotions, she can be a very mysterious and confusing figure in the eyes of others. She is not only difficult to read but, as a result, difficult to understand. It seems as though no one understands her, and so she tends to keep her difference from others. Her traumatic childhood and mute sister had no positive impact on her ability to socialize, so she keeps to herself. She's not shy, and has no problem holding a conversation, but does tend to isolate herself.

Anthea is, for the most part, a follower. She strongly prefers to blend in with the crowd and not draw attention to herself. While not embarrassed by attention, she would rather that she didn't catch any. She is unique, however, in that she is willing to become a leader when no one else will step up. If she sees benefit coming from it, she has no problem with taking charge and throwing herself into the spotlight. Though it does make her uncomfortable, she shifts well into any position. She is adaptable.

And, perhaps, that's why she thought that she could transform from a girl into an heir.

History:

As a child, Anthea understood little of the conflict over the heir. Fantasia, who raised her daughter without much interference from Anora, was quick to dismiss any comments about the inheritance in front of her; she was desperate to keep Anthea out of the family's conflict for as long as possible, a conflict which had consumed so many of her other children. Fantasia was not one to lie, but she felt that she could keep the family's circumstances hidden for her children's well being. She was always present on the rare occasion Anthea and Anora made contact, a shadow lurking in the background, as to ensure that nothing would be said in front of her daughter.

But, inevitably, some comments slipped past Fantasia's strictly enforced filter. A conflict so large could not be hidden from Anthea forever. But even with the occasional mention of the inheritance, Anthea pushed them to the back of her mind. As far as she understood (which was very little), she was not involved with the inheritance that occasionally came up in conversation. She had no reason to worry about it, or even analyze the remarks. She thought it was her mother's business, and adult business was never very interesting or problematic anyways. Her childhood was perhaps the happiest time of her life, because she maintained her innocence. She remained oblivious.

Nonetheless, there was one thing that troubled Anthea. She had never met Thane, and hardly knew Cailan. Her only contact with Anora was closely observed; as though she was speaking to a prisoner. She rightfully felt as though she didn't have a family; something that, in her opinion, everyone was worthy of. She only ever had Fantasia, Kieran, and Eluvian, and wanted desperately to unite the broken pieces of her family. She knew very little of why they were so divided, but was determined that, once she figured out, she would bring them all together. She dreamed of how she would eventually go about doing this, but never had the nerve to so much as mention Anora's name in front of Fantasia. She knew that she would be quickly silenced.

It wasn't until her teenage years that Anthea learned the truth. Anora, on her few visits to see her youngest daughter, determined that she and Eluvian were eligible heirs. She asked Fantasia for more contact with Anthea, so that she may raise her to respect the inheritance and continue to follow the path of the law, to prevent another incident like Thane's. While she still hadn't decided which of the twins was a better suited heir, she wanted to ensure that she had a backup. Naturally, Fantasia was furious that Anora only showed an interest in her daughter after determining that she was an eligible heir, and fought brutally over her. But it was a relentless fight. Afraid that Anora would try anything to win over Anthea, Fantasia finally broke down and revealed everything to her daughter- the inheritance, the heir, and Anora's hold over the family.

Anthea saw the inheritance as a way to unite her family, instead of dividing them as it had done in the past. Anora, in Anthea's opinion, was only riddled with greed because she was so dead-set on finding an heir. Once she had found an heir, she was sure, Anora would settle down and become a mother once again. She knew what she would do: get on Anora's good side and become a reliable and trustworthy heir, so that Anora would finally be satisfied and return to the family.

In her late teens, Anthea told Fantasia that she wanted to live with Anora. She was determined to play out her plan. Fantasia was not only confused, but felt heartbroken and betrayed. Though it tore Anthea apart, she left Fantasia and went to live with Anora. She cut off all contact with Fantasia, to show Anora that she would not let her past interfere with her new responsibilities as heir. She became the heir that Anora had always wanted, quiet and respectful and just.

But Anora did not return to the family as planned, and remained emotionless and greedy. Anthea finally realized that Anora wasn't going to change, and that the family conflict was far from over. Her siblings, particularly Cailan, began to argue over who was worthy of the inheritance. She was no longer seen as the rightful heir, but as the current heir. An heir that could be replaced. The plan that Anthea had intended to unite the family was only dividing them further.

As she grew into adulthood, Anthea decided to desert Anora. She had only made the family's situation worse, and could see no more good coming from what she had created. She also no longer wanted to depend on her parents, who were so seemingly unstable. After much mental deliberation, she left in the dark, unannounced, and fled. For several days, she had nowhere to go, and so she turned to her aunt Zaira, who let her stay in a makeshift room at Tranquility before she found a place of her own. She has not made contact with Anora since.

Because she could no longer financially depend on her parents, she found a job studying insects at an insectary, and does extensive research on the metamorphosis of moths and butterflies. While she now lives in isolation, she is patching up the broken bond between herself and Fantasia, and has remained close to Eluvian. They are the only Kiamaras who she is proud to be related to. But ask her if she has a family, and you'll get a straightforward answer: "I never have".

It is unclear as to whether or not Anthea is still the heir, though it seems that Anora now favors Eluvian.

Coffee [Short Story]:

Anthea scuttled around the kitchen, muttering to herself the tasks that she had to accomplish before heading off to work; planning each one, as per usual, in order of difficulty and importance. She had lots to do in only a little time, but that didn't mean she was skipping her ritual cup of coffee. She shuffled over to the pantry, her body still half-asleep though her mind was wide awake, to get the coffee grinds.

But as she neared the pantry, she noticed that the door was half-open, and frowned. It was unlike her to leave a pantry door open; she was somewhat meticulous about the state of her small home, which was one of the few things that she had a great deal of pride for. She dismissed it as a bad hinge and flung it open all the way, reaching out towards the container of ground coffee. As she turned around, it slipped out of her hand and fell onto the floor with a loud metallic crash. But the crash was not the sound that caught her attention.

She turned back to the still-open pantry, which seemed to be the source of a frightened "meow". She leaned down, her hands on her knees, and looked directly into two wide, scared eyes. She flinched, startled, but then smirked to herself.

"Hey there, little one," she cooed, "It's all right." She held out a welcoming hand to sniff, and the kitten backed into the corner. Knowing that she had little time before she had to go to work, she unwrapped the scarf around her neck and placed it on the floor as a makeshift bed, putting scraps of bread and a cup of water to the side of it. "For you, if you want it," she explained to the glowing eyes.

By the time she had returned from work, she had almost forgotten about the mysterious Pantry Kitten. She only remembered when she caught sight of the scarf on the floor. The bread was gone, and the water spilled. The kitten, a tiny thing who was dark brown in color, sat on her desk. Anthea smiled to herself.

"I'll call you Coffee."

Relationships:

Fantasia: Anthea is certainly closer to Fantasia than to her other mother, but their relationship is far from mended. Though they lived together as mother and daughter for more than a dozen years, they now feel like newly acquainted strangers. Fantasia still hasn't completely forgiven Anthea for choosing to live with Anora, nor has Anthea forgiven her mother for hiding the truth for those many years. Nonetheless, Anthea trusts that Fantasia has her best interests at heart. She is glad that it was Fantasia who initially raised her, who taught her to do right and to stay true to herself. While her mother had an iron fist, she molded Anthea into an independent, strong girl, and for that she is grateful.

Anora: Anthea and Anora haven't spoken since Anthea ran away from her care, but she was never a motherly figure in Anthea's eyes anyways. While Anthea is convinced that her mother has a good soul, she is disgusted by her greed and treatment of her children. The grimy outer layer of her mother's personality completely masks any empathy and passion that lies underneath. She has no intention on speaking with her mother again, but as a prime candidate for the inheritance, she is more than likely to be swept into the drama once more.

Keiran: Anthea was raised with Keiran in the background, occasionally taking care of her and Eluvian when Fantasia was out. She thinks of her Keiran as more of a favorite babysitter than a sibling- an admired and respected caretaker whom she is always glad to see, but not a family member. The two get along well, and Anthea does look up to her brother, but you couldn't call them friends.

Cailan: Anthea met Cailan once, and it didn't go too well. A lot of arguing ensued between Cailan and the rest of the family, and the visitor was soon ushered out of the door. The two haven't spoken or communicated in any way since, but Anthea has no desire to speak to Cailan until she fixes her attitude. Anthea wishes that she could bond with her sibling, to have the family that she's always desired, but it's never seemed possible.

Thane: Thane is somewhat of a mystery to Anthea, no more tangible than a story book character. She knows of what he did, and how he tore the family apart, but she cannot help but think that it was not his fault but Anora's. She put the greed into his heart, and he merely acted on it. Anthea is scared of Thane for his murder attempts, but would like to meet him someday under careful supervision if only to ask him why.

Zaira: Aunt Zaira was not a prominent figure in Anthea's life, but showed up from time to time with stories and smiles for her youngest nieces. She was always a welcome sight around the house, and Anthea would occasionally make trips to Tranquility as she grew older to visit her aunt. The two got along very well, and always found something to talk about, but saw each other less and less as the years passed. Zaira was cut out of Anthea's life altogether when she chose to live with Anora, but the two were reunited when Anthea took refuge at Tranquility. Zaira seemed to prove to Anthea that even those closest in relation to Anora could be sane, which was somewhat comforting.

Eluvian: Eluvian is the only family member that Anthea has kept in constant contact with over the years. They were raised side-by-side and, unlike most siblings, rarely fought. They were united by their turbulent childhoods, their torn apart family, and will always be connected by that. Her mellow personality counterbalances the chaos of the family, and while Eluvian cannot give her advice, sometimes a smile is all that she needs. They're not best of friends or the perfect sisters, but their relationship is the closest to normal that Anthea will ever know.

Adaline: Anthea has never particularly liked her cousin, finding her too loud and bratty. Though she holds a special love for her only younger relative, she can't stand to be around her for more than a few hours. Adaline, however, completely adores Anthea to the point of idolization. Anthea admires how much Adaline looks up to her, but wishes she would direct her affection at someone else so that she wouldn't cling to her as much.

Why Anthea:

I will never be able to express how in love I am with this girl, so I'm not going to try. However, I will assure you that if this girl was mine, I would be extremely active with her. I only wish that I could somehow prove to you that you would not regret putting her up for adoption if I were to win. I know that there are a lot of impressive forms, some perhaps more so than mine, but I hope that within the content of her character, you've discovered the part of my heart inside of Anthea. Puralis

About her Name

When Puralis opened her eyes, Fantasia thought she saw a fire in her soul. She may have, but due to this, they named her Puralis. It's a variant that they made of Pyralis, a Greece name meaning 'Of Fire'. It was also intended to show that she had a pure soul. Puralis is mostly neutral in feelings about her name, but she leans towards liking it. She couldn't see herself as some of the other names they would name her, like Golnar, Ignatius, Kimba, Lasariona, and a few more. Puralis has a few nicknames that she likes and dislikes, though. Most of the nicknames she likes are the ones she's never called. She's sometimes called Flame, Blueberry, or Pura. The ones she doesn't like, however, are Kitty, Cat, or Purrer. They call her this because she normally hates everything everyone else loves, or because she's neutral to some stuff. The names are rather sarcastic, to be honest.

Gender

Puralis leans towards not having a gender, but she is female and would hate you forever if you called her anything else.


Personality

Puralis is strange like most of her family. She has strong feelings about her parents and loves them both in different ways, but in the end- or rather the beginning- she can only stay with one. Puralis is a hard worker, and never strays too far off of track. She pays close attention and does well in the time she spends at her private lessons. Though she may not be the smartest Kia her age, she is very persuasive and manipulative. She always gets her way. Puralis prefers to spend her time alone, because she believes that other Kiamaras have a tendency to annoy her. In a way, she's absolutely right. In ways, she's always right with everything. If she says something she knows has a chance of being wrong, she'll find a way out to make it right. To some Kiamaras, she's highly snotty and annoying. To her, she's just fine. Maybe even better. The only sibling that could possibly like her is Thane. Some days she secretly skips her private lessons and goes there to talk to him. He may be the only Kiamara she feels sorry for. She would hate to be locked up all alone. Being locked up with others would be even worse to her. And it wasn't his fault he wanted to kill Anora. Sometimes she wants to kill Anora, too.
