Chrysaora Basilisk #279 Orphan Rescue Event

Postby IceFire » Tue Aug 04, 2015 6:21 pm

General Info
Chrysaora Basilisk are the prevalent equine creatures that inhabit the world Lucent. They roam by the hundreds, using their unique hooves to score the uneven rock and track down their most vital source of nourishment; evil. The relationship between Chrysaora and humans is a complex one. Chrysaora vocalize like horses, but are also thought to have a syrinx much like birds do and have been recorded displaying a variety of sharp, avian sounds. Their eyes layer over with a dark, murky black until their normal eye color pierces through in a great ball of electric light, radiating toward their victim's open eyes and paralyzing them. The Glare is able to stop both human and creature, and after a few days, unique to other forms of basilisk, the paralyzed being transforms into a sea nettle.

Orphan Rescue Event wrote:The story goes like this;
A human trapper had stolen many chrysaora foals and was selling them in a underground black market. A organization of people stopped him and rescued the foals, and are now trying to adopt them out. Each of the foals needs an experienced owner to love and raise them. We're counting on you, the members of the chry community, to give these babes a second chance at life.

Task #1 - First Encounter

I was woken from a deep sleep by the loud buzz of voices coming from outside my quarters. After a few minutes, there was a loud banging on my door and a call for volunteers to head to the rescue pools. I crawled out of bed and after a very hot cup of tea (to wake up my brain) I threw on some clothes and hurried out the door.

I made it down the corridor and into the pool area, I volunteered here, looking after any rescued Chrysaora that were brought in after the blooms, those that weren't eaten, or were abandoned for some reason. Or worse, like today, when a trappers lair was discovered and so many uncared for eggs were recovered.

I rushed into the large cave and found that others were already at work, gently depositing the newly saved eggs into the warm pools. One of the older rescuers pointed me toward a pool with an egg already in it...each egg was being given into the care of a single volunteer in the hopes that they could be cared for until they hatched.

I rushed over to the pool and looked inside. I saw the most beautiful delicate little creature just barely visible inside the transluscent egg. The moment my eyes set upon him, I fell in love, and I knew I would do anything to keep this little foal alive until he hatched!

I ate, slept, and stayed with my little egg for days. Other people would bring food in for the volunteers who stayed by their eggs. I would make sure the water wasn't too hot or too cold, I would keep measurements to make sure the egg was growing and hardening in the water.

But most of all, I talked to my egg. I wanted him to know he was loved, and that if he grew strong enough, he could crack his egg and be free. And that I would always be there for him.

For days I waited, hoping he would be ok, it seemed like he would never come out of his shell, and I was so tired that my eyes just wouldn't stay open, and I fell into such a deep sleep. A light tapping, scratching noise woke me in the middle of the night...I opened my eyes slowly and looked into the pool to see a crack growing along the side of the egg...

...I held my breath, waiting for my first glimpse of my little foal as he crawled his way out. The bits of egg were breaking away faster now, and I saw the tiny horns emerge first. Then a tiny head and front legs kicked their way out. And finally, a beautiful flowing trail of tendrils. He swam slowly around the edge of the pool before coming to where I was leaning over the side.

We looked into each others eyes and I was lost. I guess he must have approved, since he didn't immediately try to paralyze me, which I was happy about. I slowly reached out a finger and stroked down his back, and he gave a shivery little noise which I hoped was a happy noise.

He was the most stunning shade of Bay, real dark red blood coloured, with patches of white. I couldn't wait to see what he would grow up to look like!

Sorry, I know I said art, but I was too tired, so I went with writing instead :oops:
