Name: Halen
Gender: Stallion
Halter and Beads Color: Gold with red beads
Personality: Halen is short tempered and fiery. He does not like to be pitied or treated like he's stupid because he's blind. He has had enough problems with this and it made him grouchy. He is not dangerous and is very hardworking. He is a very capable
How Did They Become Blind?: Halen lost his sight due to cataracts. His parents had a rare recessive gene that either meant he would have some disability or be stillborn. The owners didn't realise this when their dam was bred to the stallion and only found out when Halen was four and a half. He was perfectly fine until he was four. Halen started to walk into walls and spook at random things. His owners noticed his eyes starting to pearl over. They took him to the vets but the cataracts was too advanced to have surgery on it. Eventually his vision faded when he was five.

Name: Thunder Sings my Name / Odin
Gender: Stallion
Halter and Beads Color: The halter will be brown like leather and the beads will be varying shades of green
Personality: Odin is a bit of a shy and spooky Malik, he wasn't born blind so losing his sight has made him uncertain about the world around him. Although he does tend to flinch away at a lot of things, if he has a human he trusts leading him then he will follow them wherever they go, through rivers, along cliff sides with the trail crumbling slightly under his weight. When he has someone who can lead him with confidence then he would go anywhere, his fear of the world is because of what he can't see around him. When he has company of another animal, then he turns to them for safety in knowing if he should run away from something or not.
How Did They Become Blind?: Odin was raised with a family who had many cats that loved to linger around the stables and stalls with the horses. Odin even had a best friend in a marmalade tabby that would rub itself along his nose and legs, when Odin would lay down in his stall the tabby was there to snuggle up to him. After being raised to enjoy the company of cats Odin was taken to a new home where he was going to be trained for riding, they also had cats. One even reminded Odin so much of the marmalade tabby that was his friend that in his excitement at seeing the cat he trotted up to the stall door where the cat was sleeping and gently nudged the cat in hopes of getting some friendly rubs. The cat jumped up in surprise, this cat didn't like horses very much and didn't like being scared, it scratched at Odin's face multiple times before hissing and jumping down from the stall door and leaving the stallion hurt and alone. The cat managed to scratch Odin's eyes enough to cause infection to set in, after being medicated and treated for months, Odin's eyes would never work again.

    - As a foal grew up having beauty products tested on him.

Ankur's New Life {Abd Al Malik #11}

    Ankur 'अंकुर'
Ankur is a Nepali name meaning "New Life". After Ankur was disowned by his original owners, he was given the new name to say that he had been given a new life. This would be his third name as his first name was to praise his beauty when he was born, and his second name was a scorn for having gone blind.

● Personality:
When he was a foal, Ankur was happy-go-lucky and ready to take on the world, but after his blindness Ankur has become much more quiet and reserved. He doesn't like to talk a lot, and usually comes off as grumpy. The stallion doesn't mean to make everyone afraid to talk to him, he only snaps because as he grew older he learned that younger horses liked to use his blindness to their advantage. He's been played tricks on by both other animals and humans a like, and so he's not the most trusting of horses. Ankur doesn't accept help from others for this reason as well. He tends to try everything on his own, even if he has to try multiple times. He's persistent and driven by a determination to prove that his blindness has not held him back at all.
Image

● How He Became Blind:
At a very young age, the happy-go-lucky Ankur had been prancing around the pasture like any other foal. The colt would get lots of scratches, none of which the boy's owner thought of as severe or needing lots of attention. However, through one of his more severe cuts that the owners failed to notice in time, Ankur contracted the leptospira bacteria. The owners had gone on a vacation, leaving their prized colt and their other horses in the care of a friend. The friend however, didn't know a lot about equines and how to take care of them. They noticed that one day Ankur was acting odd compared to his usual prancing self, and so they called the owners and was told to call the vet. The owners of Ankur rushed home, arriving just as the vet was finishing up. They received the news that their prized colt was now blind, having contracted "Moon Blindness", or ERU, from a severe cut on the colt's leg near the hoof. The cut had been infected by the leptospira bacteria which led to the foal's immune system attacking his eyes and leading to Ankur's "Moon Blindness".
After getting the news, the owners disowned the foal, ashamed now of having bragged about him growing to be one of the best stallions around only to have him turn out blind and, to them, useless. They wanted nothing to do with the now quiet foal who did nearly nothing but try not to run into things. They changed his name to something horrid to show that they no longer wanted anything to do with the little blind colt, showing that although he was still beautiful, he was useless due to his inability to now see. They still took care of him when taking care of their other stallions and mares, they just didn't acknowledge poor little Ankur.
● Former Names & Explanations:
Ankur's first name when he was born was Badran 'بدران', an Arabic name meaning 'The Most Beautiful' as his owners at the time were amazed by how glorious the foal looked. He was their prized possession when he could still see. After he became blind, his owners changed his name to Machlah 'מַחְלָה', a Hebrew name that translates to 'a disease'. Ankur's original owners no longer wanted anything to do with this "disease" in their herd and tried very hard to get rid of him. They were now afraid that they would be the joke of the town with their prized colt having gone blind. When he found his new home, his name was change to the Nepali name Ankur 'अंकुर', meaning "New Life" to say that he was given a new life with his new owner in Nepal. (Explained in last section)

    Being alone
    Doing things on his own
    Listening to stories
    Music
● Dislikes:

    Accepting help
    Conflict
    Loud thunder
    Absolute quiet
Not knowing what's going on around him
● Favorite Treat:
● Favorite Month:
    Peppermints
Ankur's favorite month is October. He doesn't like the extreme heat during the hotter months, and he absolutely hates the frigid air during the cold months.
● Favorite Season:
● Favorite Holiday:
    Fall
Although Ankur doesn't like the bitter cold during this holiday, Christmas is one of his favorite holidays. He loves the sounds of the bells and the voices of humans singing Christmas carols. He's willing to deal with the cold during this holiday because it's full of the joyful sounds he enjoys hearing since he cannot see.
● Favorite Color:
Before Ankur went blind, he fell in love with the color green. He loved all shades of green, and now that he's blind, seeing that color is one of the greatest things he misses. Although he can no longer see it, it's still very much his favorite color. He also remembers liking the color of the sky, but any shade of green will always be his favorite.
● Friends:

Major - These two boys are great friends as they can understand each other with both being blind, however, they tend to butt heads a lot due to their determined personalities.
Minsu - Minsu is very friendly towards Ankur, which the stallion doesn't mind, but sometimes Minsu's super helpful personality can frustrate the blind stallion.
Summer - Ankur likes this mare, but seeing as they live at different stables, he doesn't get to talk with her very often. He does enjoy her company when she is around though.

━━━━━▹○❖○◃━━━━━

Image
● Caretaker:
Ankur's human caretaker at his new home is an 18 year old Thai-Nepali male named Chaiyo Ghalley. Ankur doesn't trust too many humans after what happened to him with his first owners following his blindness, but he's become fairly close with Chaiyo in recent years. The horse and boy have known each other for nearly 3 years now, and Chaiyo is the only known human that Ankur accepts anything from (treats, praise, etc). As many horses have a rider, due to Ankur's blindness he doesn't get ridden and so Chaiyo was hired to shower Ankur with love and walk the stallion around the pasture or ranch once in a while for exercise.
● Animal Companion:
Ankur has befriended a Red Panda in recent years as well. The small creature only shows up to the stallion when he's alone, away from other horses and humans. No one has really seen this Red Panda, but occasionally have heard Ankur speak of a creature he talks to named Mihir, a Nepali name meaning "sun rays". This animal companion has helped Ankur through times when his blindness has led him into times of depression. Mihir is always around when Ankur needs a smile brought to his face. Some days, when Ankur is feeling adventurous, Mihir becomes his eyes and helps him through the pasture. Mihir is the only creature that Ankur accepts help from, and it's very rarely.
● Biggest Fear:
Ankur's biggest fear is that he'll lose his hearing as well in some freak accident like he lost his sight as a colt. The stallion loves listening to stories told by Mihir and even listening to what the humans say when he's close enough to them. He fears that if he loses his hearing, then he'll be completely disconnected from the world as Mihir often describes to him what's going on around him and if anything has changed. He also can't stand the thought of not being able to hear the bells and carols during Christmas.
● His Ideal Type:
Due to Ankur being blind, he obviously doesn't care to much about what his mate would look like on the outside. Ankur is more of a beauty is on the inside kind of stallion, as being blind has shown him there's more to life then what meets the eye. Although Ankur isn't currently looking for a mate, he likes to make sure his ideal type is known. Ankur doesn't care whether his mate is a mare or stallion, so long as their friendly and understand him. He wants someone who can put up with his random bursts of crabbiness as well as understand that he doesn't like accepting help.
● What He Does Now:
It's been years now since Ankur became blind, and the stallion has come to terms with the fact that he'll never be able to see again. When he first became blind, it was a struggle for him as he still wanted to run around like he used to, but he'd usually just run into things and get hurt. As he got older, he realized it was just better to take things easy and do things at a slower pace. It's become a burden for him, as he doesn't like to accept help from others, but he gets by on his own. Ankur usually spends a lot of his time under trees or slowly moving about pastures.
● Where He'll Reside:
Ankur will spend the rest of his life at a ranch in the Marsyangdi Valley in Nepal. The ranch is in a field not far from the Marsyangdi River itself, which brings cooler air during the summer, something Ankur likes. The ranch is called Marsyangdi River Equestrian; it's a fairly large center, capable of holding quite a few horses, but it makes a nice home for Ankur. He's happy at the center because in the large pastures he's able to find a corner where there is no horse to try to talk to him and where Mihir can visit him without a problem. (Marsyangdi River Equestrian in Nepal is tied to Winter Peak Ranch in South Korea through a friendship by the owners)
● Story:
I don't blame you if you don't want to read this considering how lengthy my form is already, but either way "Accidental Adventure"

[There's a calm surrender
to the rush of day;
when the heat of a rolling
wind can be turned away.
An enchanted moment,
and it sees me through.
It's enough for this
restless warrior just
to be with you.

Can you feel the love tonight?
The peace the evening brings;
the world, for once,
in perfect harmony,
with all its living things

So many things to tell her,
but how to make her see?
The truth about my past?
Impossible! She'd turn
away from me...

He's holding back, he's hiding,
but what, I can't decide.
Why won't he be the king
I know he is, the king
I see inside?

And can you feel
the love tonight?
It is where we are.
It's enough for this
wide-eyed wanderer
that we got this far.

And can you feel
the love tonight?
How it's laid to rest?
It's enough to make
kings and vagabonds,
believe the very best.

There's a time for everyone
if they only learn,
that the twisting kaleidoscope
moves us all in turn.

There's a rhyme and reason
to the wild outdoors,
when the heart of this
star-crossed voyager
beats in time with yours.

And can you feel
the love tonight?
It is where we are.
It's enough for this
wide-eyed wanderer
that we got this far.

And can you feel
the love tonight?
How it's laid to rest?
It's enough to make

And can you feel
the love tonight?
The peace the
evening brings;
the world, for once,
in perfect harmony

Can you feel the
love tonight?
You needn't look too far;
Stealing through the
night's uncertainties:
Love is where we are.

-------------------------------------------------

përsönälïtÿ:
Before he was stripped of his sight, Altan was a proud, energetic colt. He was vibrant and obedient, though at best he was overbearing and even cocky most of the time. The Arabian was very conceited, to be honest; he wanted to be the one in the spotlight at all times, and if anyone else stole it he was not happy until it was back on him. He loved getting attention and he flourished in social situations.

Fast forward to his fighting days, Altan was as prideful and as conceited as ever, but the only difference now is that he had the achievements and the strength to back it up. While Altan wasn't born necessarily vicious, he acquired the trait through training when he realized that being so aggressive got him attention and praise from the humans around him. He was, however, born naturally tenacious and without the common sense to know when to quit; many a fight was won by his refusal to lose alone. His stubbornness is what really gave him the edge as a fighting horse.

After he was blinded, Altan became very much withdrawn. He was scared and quiet, barely eating, rarely moving. He was terrified of the darkness, and would often lash out at anyone who came too close to the poor stallion. He never knew wether they were friend or foe, so he began to assume attack first before they attack him. He was humbled greatly, but it was more that he just didn't want to make anymore connections with anyone or anything, he just wanted to be left alone in his dark little lonely world. It wasn't until a mare that was more stubborn than he managed to crack his stone heart and show his true personality. Around everyone else he's still cold and distant, but with Dziban, well, he's a totally different horse. She's his mirror; around her he's gentle and loving, even playful at times when he thinks no one is watching. She is his eyes, and he is her grounding rock. The same soul in two separate bodies, they complete each other.

höw dïd hë bëċömë blïnd?:
The very short version:
Altan is an ex-fighting horse, used to fight other stallions in an arena, oftentimes where one of the horses would die or have to be put down due to their injuries. After he came off the fighting circuit, his owners tried to retire him to a stud, but after too many failed breeding attempts they sold him. He was purchased under the guise of being a show horse; so when he almost killed a horse at his new home, he was sold immediately. The next home had a cruel master, and when he attacked other horses and the man's son, he tied Altan down and blinded him with a mix of alcohol and acid in both eyes.

ëvërÿ sċär tëlls ä story:
Most of Altan's scars come from his fighting days, but there are a few noteworthy scars:
- The scar on his crest is from resisting a rope halter as a foal and it cut into him.
- The scar behind his right eye is from the ropes used when he was blinded.
- A scar on his left hind leg is from a dog that bit him right before a fight in Istanbul.
- The slash under his barrel was from jumping a fence to attack another horse.

füll hïstörÿ:
Altan was born a proud colt; spoiled to the bone, he was the pride of the stable he was born to. He was the foal born to make the stable famous and wealthy, and he did just that. But, let's rewind for a minute. This story isn't like one you'd expect....

On June 6th, 2006, a foal was born to a massive black stallion a smaller coyote dun mare. It was a horrid night in the desert, with the sandstorm screaming outside the makeshift stable doors and the lightning slamming the ground every few seconds. It was in this rickety old hell, befitting of a date that held three sixes in it, that Altan first came into existence. His skull-marked face and blood-soaked coat was immediately welcomed by the stable owner and his teenage son; they saw his frightening visage as a sign of good things to come, not bad luck, as was common thought for many Arabians. So excited for this promising colt, the owners ignored the "wheat ear" on his chest. (A wheat ear is a rare but naturally occurring patch of fur that grows against the grain of the rest, making a pattern that resembles wheat, and is thought to bring bad luck and misfortune wherever the horse goes.) From his first night of life onto his first birthday, Altan lived like a normal colt; he ran in the pastures with other foals and his dam, playing and romping and just being a foal.

Now, back to this stable he lived in... It wasn't your typical stables. While it still took great care of their horses and took part in competitions, it was the discipline that this stable competed in that made it terrible. It was named Kum Savaşçı, or "Sand Warrior" Stables for a reason; here, stallions of varying breeds of Arabians were bred to fight to the death in an arena, similar to pit bull fighting here in the West. It was a sick sport bred from the cruelty of man, but it proved to be very lucrative, even in the beginning. So naturally, those who desired money and fame flocked to it like vultures.

At the passing of his first birthday, Altan's training began; he'd grown from an awkward-legged colt into a fine yearling, and was deemed "ready" by the older man. So for two years he was trained mercilessly and often times brutally, trying to make him as aggressive and ill-tempered as they possibly could. They continually whipped him and fought him against older retired horses, ones who couldn't move as fast or deal as much damage as other horses his age. As he got older and deeper into training, they began to spar him with other foals he'd originally played with, and he won every time without fail. Eventually he fought another foal that had been just as promising as he, a blue roan Godolphin Arabian with piercing blue eyes. The fight was terrible; it lasted for near to twenty minutes, and in the end Altan killed the roan.

From that final test, Altan celebrated his third birthday and was promptly thrown into the fighting circuit. This wasn't play anymore; this was kill or be killed, no trainers to step in and stop the fight if it wasn't a good day. His first few fights were tough when he realized this, but he adapted and, eventually, overcame. He excelled with every fight, gaining momentum with each victory, and eventually took the championship title on the circuit. By then he was about to celebrate his sixth birthday and seeing as that he was beginning to have trouble keeping up with younger horses, the stable retired him. They attempted to turn him into a stud, but there was something wrong; no matter how many times he covered a mare, even ones that were known to be fertile, they never conceived. So, with the stallion now useless to them, he was sold.

Purchased by an American family travelling in Israel, they hoped he'd be a decent riding horse for their daughter. So they purchased him, loaded him up, and shipped him back to the United States. They never saw how wild he was, or how he damaged the box stall on the long ship home, or how he almost bit every single human and horse that passed by. So when they got home to their stable on the east coast, it came as a nasty surprise when the first thing he did was break free and attack another of their jumpers. Immediately they secluded him and tried to keep him locked away, but the Malik was too clever and intelligent; Altan broke out every time they tried something new. Eventually the family had to physically tie him down until he was sold again; the next family got the same ugly reaction when they turned him out with a mare in heat. They were hoping for a crossbred endurance runner, but instead of breeding her, Altan attacked her and very nearly took the young chestnut's life. They did the same and secluded him, but he continually jumped the fence to attack any horse within sight. When the son came to see the beautiful Arabian, he was bitten on the shoulder and had to be rushed to the hospital with a shattered collarbone. The father became so infuriated with the stallion that he finally called some of his buddies to come help him with an "experiment". Instead of calling a professional trainer like they should have done, the men hogtied him and held him down, and the father cruelly began to drip an elixir of watered down acid and rubbing alcohol into his eyes. Altan tried to kick and squeal; why were they hurting him?! He was only doing what he'd been taught! By the end of the little torture session, Altan's eyes had been damaged beyond repair. Those once fierce olive eyes had now faded to a silvery tint, and he'd lost 100% of his vision in both eyes. That night he stood frozen in his stall, eyes watering miserably as he trembled, unmoving. He was terrified.

The next day he could hear everything happen around the stable, but he couldn't see it. He tried looking around, but to no avail, there was nothing he could do to bring his sight back. Days passed and the once proud stallion stopped eating and barely drank. He was so scared, and even though it would have scared him even more initially, he yearned for someone to comfort him. A new month came, and suddenly the stable was alive with music and chatter; announcers were yelling out numbers and commentary, and the sound of horses jumping fences nearby came to Altan's ears. He listened intently; though his instincts said attack, he was far too frightened of this human man to try and break out. Besides, he couldn't even feel the lock anymore! Had they moved it?

"Hello beautiful," a sudden voice spooked him. It was soft and feminine, not threatening at all, but he still wasn't sure. She smooched to him gently, speaking soothing words in a soft voice and eventually luring the stallion back to her. She slowly raised her hand to let him sniff it, but she noticed him tense. She attempted to pet him, but at the slightest touch of her fingers the Arabian went ballistic. He reared, throwing his head and hitting his muzzle on the side of the stall door, causing himself to panic. It took roughly an hour, but eventually the woman calmed him down and coaxed him back, where she finally got the chance to touch him. It was then she noticed his eyes and the uneven burning of his pupils. Rage filled her, but she didn't move. Eventually Altan relaxed slightly, and she spoke to him softly, petting his head and ears with gentle fingers. Too consumed in the feeling of finally being comforted, Altan forgot his training and just let this wonderful human pet him.
