"HELLO!"
I woke up to a cold wet nose pressed against my neck and looked down to see my dog Bash curled up next to me with wide eyes at my sudden movement. I could see the sun rising over the valley through my window and knew I had to get up soon or I'd be late on one of the most exciting days of my summer. I smiled in the dawn light and wondered what my tolter would look like or if I'd even like it once we got home but I pushed away any negative thoughts and got up to get ready. After I looked like a normal human being I hooked up my smallest livestock trailer to my Jeep, grabbed some snack for the roan before Bash and I began the drive to the holding pens nearly 2 hours away. I was early when I finally got there so I found an empty space to park among the other early people's assortment of vehicles and trailers before rolling down the windows and waiting for the loads to open while Bash barked at anyone who got to close to us.
Half an hour later things were finally operational and a crowd was beginning to gather around the pens while a manager shouted out commands to ranch hands as they loaded tolters into trailers. As I walked over I heard my name called and waved to the manager who pointed at me and spoke to someone I couldn't see over the crowd of people. Soon after a young man rushed up to me handed me a slip of paper and told me with hurried instructions to back my trailer up to load number 6 and hand the lady the paper. I sprinted back to the Jeep and did my best to back up to the loading dock but after two failed attempts one of the ranch hands got in and backed in with so much speed that I almost wanted to ask him for lessons. A lady walked up to me with an open hand and I gave the paper to her before she shouted out a number and returned the paper to me.
