First Encounter

bleh I haven't written anything in forever. I apologize in advance for damaging your eyes xD

Hooves clattered against metal, disrupting the hum of the truck's engine with an echoing clang. The vehicle slowly backed up to the open entrance of the corral, positioning the trailer in the gap. Another kick set the trailer rattling and a loud whinny bugled from the open slats of the windows, a pink-patched nose sticking out between them for a brief moment. The truck came to a halt and the trailer jostled slightly by the stop. The horse inside snorted in displeasure and stamped one back foot, ears flicking back against his head. He'd done nothing but have a temper tantrum the whole ride from the BLM facility back to the ranch and he wasn't shy about making his annoyance known. Pinned ears flicked back to an upright position when there was noise from the outside of the trailer door and he stuck his nose through a window again, trying to scent what was causing the sounds. The chain holding the door was undone, and the latch lifted so that it could open. A face cautiously peeked into the trailer to see where the stallion was and his ears went back once more. These two-leggeds were nothing but bad news. The face disappeared and the door was slowly opened, revealing a grassy space that was fenced in by white wooden slats.
Anger was quickly replaced with uncertainty and the dusky roan eased his way forward, nostrils flaring to catch any scent of danger that might be present. The smell of the cooling truck engine reached his nose, along with the unpleasant smell of the rubber tires, and a lighter scent that he couldn't quite place. Thrusting his head out of the opening, he took a moment to peer around at the new environment. The grass was a deep green and the property was lined by an uneven border of tall trees. The fencing that made up the pens and pastures was bright white and in good repair, standing out against the green of the landscape. To the left and back a ways from the corral was a large barn, the smell of sweet hay and other horses drifting out from the open door. The stallion gave another sharp whinny, startling the girl who was standing just to the side of the trailer. A few seconds passed and an answering whinny wavered through the air from the direction of the barn. The mustang flicked his ears in the direction and eased out of the trailer, hooves plunking onto the earth outside the metal box. The door to the trailer was closed once he'd moved off towards the other side of the pen, and the gate to the corral was latch a moment later, ensuring he would stay inside while the trailer was moved away. The rumble of the engine startled him and he leaped towards the opposite side of his enclosure, kicking out with his hind legs as though it would frighten away the attacker.
The sound of the truck faded as it was moved back to its usual spot in the drive way and the roan had a moment to settle before the soft sound of approaching footsteps put him on guard again. The human was making her way back towards the fence. Unbelievable. Surely he deserved some peace after being chased into a rolling box behind a rumbling monster of a contraption and then unleashed into this rinky-dink excuse for freedom. He stomped his foot in warning and flicked his tail, eyeing her with displeasure. This didn't seem to put her off in the slightest and and stepped up to the fence and rested her forearms atop it, watching him with a studying gaze. A snort was all she got in response and the mustang swung around so his rump was facing her when it was clear she had no intention of leaving yet. Fine. Perhaps if he ignored her long enough she would go back to her strange two-legged ways and leave him in peace.
"We'll make a trusting horse out of you. Just you wait" the human girl mumbled to herself, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. After all, they'd only just met. He'd come around if given the time and patience to do so.
