Though this was a dang'rous mess

When morning came they both were found
His precious freedom came unbound
For while the girl was whisked away
Feral was taken as a stray.

Sitting in a tiny cage
The mournful hound felt passive rage
All he'd done was stopped to care
And now his life was suddenly bare.

For many days he struggled there
Until one day he felt a stare,
And looking up with baleful eyes
He saw a sight in much surprise.

The girl he'd saved stood by the bars
Looking down with many scars
And with a tremulous voice she said
"Without you I'd have been left for dead."

Before he knew it Feral was free
Though not in the way that he used to be.
The girl he'd saved took him away
To a ranch where he lives to this very day.

Though total freedom is no more
Feral's still wild to his very core.
And with free range of the mighty ranch
To the girl he extended an olive branch.

So on occasion when she chooses to call
He manages to act like the sweetest doll
Willing to do what she asks of him
So long as the rest of his life is his whim.

Those eyes, those eyes have seen many things
