Tall, lean frame, round ears, and bright eyes, Xholis are diurnal, hierarchal, and intelligent species that wield the forces of nature. Xholis are social animals that can be recognized into 2 different clans. The ones that hunt at dusk, and those that hunt at dawn. Their pelt reflects their environment as the Dusk hunters tend to have darker palette while the Dawn hunters are significantly lighter. Between those two clans, the species are once again split into more diverse and specialized packs. Fire, Earth and Water are the most common forces of nature that each Xholi wields. The gem they are born with determines their attribute, which is effected by the parent's gems. Every Xholi is given a role befitting their status in the pack, and the leader of the each pack is expected to keep the peace.

You don’t understand what is happening. There are screams and yelps all around the camp; it’s total chaos. Everybody is running in different directions, diving for the protection of the mountains.

You hear a snarl and whip around just in time to see a large wolf try and pounce for a young Xholi. You almost start to run to their aid when you hear a growl behind you and a sudden sharp pain shoots up your thigh. A rabid wolf has gotten hold of you. You try to struggle free, but the wolf is only snarling louder and clamping down harder. The pain is starting to get unbearable.

Suddenly, something seems to distract the wolf because it instantly lets you go and runs off. You won’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

You try to struggle up but your leg is severely wounded. You look back to see your fur matted and stained dark. You put all of your strength in your front legs, finally pushing yourself up with a grunt and groan of pain. You take a step, testing it out, and decide that you can still limp with minimal pain.

You look back up at the camp; everybody has mostly fled into the mountains. There are still a few stragglers trying to hide and multiple wolves snarling and sniffing around. You see a small pup cowering in a corner, their fur stained red.

“Leliel,” a voice says behind you, or maybe it was to the right?

You turn your head, looking for the source of the voice. It sounds familiar-

“Leliel,” it says again, this time closer and much louder. You slowly turn your body to the left, looking again. What you see makes you freeze.

“Leliel,” they say again. It’s your Savant. Their eyes are dull and dead; unseeing. You notice that their chest is stained red, along with his front legs. You can see claw marks all over him.

“You have failed us, Leliel,” they say, taking a step closer.

Your heart starts pounding. It’s all your fault? Yes, you think, it is all your fault. “I’m- I’m sorry,” you choke out, taking a step back. They are still moving closer.

“You have failed us, Leliel. Why didn’t you protect us.”

“I’m sorry!” You stumble in your steps and fall to the ground. They are still approaching you.

“No, it’s all your fault,” they stopped a few feet in front of you. You think their eyes are looking behind you. When you hear the snarling and feel the warm breath on your neck, you know why.

“I’m sorry,” you whisper, shaking.

Suddenly, you feel the teeth clamp down on your neck. It hurts. It hurts so ba-

You awake from the dream, shaking and panting.

Was that a crack? Surely not, the ice couldn't be waning.

See it too late, pretty blue cracks against the cold white ice.

One pup fell, but you're still safe, watching it swallow your playmate.

Adults are yelling but you can't move, your paws held in place.

Watch the water overtake them, see the fear in their eyes as they call for you.

But you can't save them.

Teeth at the scruff of your neck and you're being hauled away, back to land where it is safe.




Weeks later, you'd return with tears in your eyes and a heavy heart.

"I'm sorry" You'd say, though it wasn't your fault.

And as you gaze into the water, you hear it whisper back to you.

"I'm coming for you too."

In my drawing, Boketto is hearing his daughter's voice Don't leave me Papa! Please! and howls in vain to answer her yelps ...

I didn't add the streaks that's supposed to be part of his pelt because I'd like to think of it as snow that frosted onto his fur permanently because he was lost in a blizzard while trying to return to his daughter again.
