Race Name: Count Fleet
Barn Name: Fleet
Race Number: 3
Race Colors: Yellow with 2 Black Circles
Story: It was a miserably hot day in New York. Fleet was nervous. He knew it was the biggest race of his life. He knew that if he won this race, he would be remembered forever. His jockey came for him. It was go time. He slowly trotted from the stables onto the track. He heard the cheers of thousands. He knew he had to be focused. He was loaded into the gates and then the gates opened. He was off. The race had begun. From the gates, he took the lead. As the race went on, he extended that lead farther and farther. He saw the end of the race coming up quick. Time to win this race. His strides lengthened a little and his lead then increased even more. Twenty yards to the finish line. He was winning by 20 lengths. 10 yards to go. His lead increased to 25 lengths. He had just won the Triple Crown. He was in shock. The crowd was going wild! But something was wrong. His leg was feeling faulty. He tried not to limp. But after an hour in the Winners' Circle, his leg was throbbing. Back at the stables, he collapsed from the pain. Would this be the end of his racing days? Doctor upon doctor tried to fix his leg, but the only cure was retirement. Some thought it was just a pulled muscle. Others thought he twisted his fore ankle, but no one knew for sure. So Fleet was to never race again. He was retired and spent the rest of his days siring racehorses.
