A million white horses

They were ours as a gift

On silver wings they fly

They gallop through time

"Dansa, wake up! Wake up!,"
I fluttered my eyelashes sleepily, and propped myself up on my front legs. The grass was still wet from the early morning dew, and the sun barely pierced through the thick white fog.
"What do you want, Ma?," I asked, the words barely slipping through my muzzle. I was annoyed at her for waking me up so early, but hey, you can't talk back to your parents. So I just grumbled and stood, shaking off little droplets of water from my coat.
"We gotta go, gotta go," I heard Ma whisper urgently as I stretched and shook out my legs. I could smell her fear, but I didn't know what there was to be afraid of in this early morning silence.
"Ma, where are we going?," I asked, my voice less shaky. She looked down at me, straight in the eyes, and said,
"Flood."
This didn't answer my question, but it made me understand everything I needed to know. Our valley had been filling with water ever since the monsoon, and now we were on one of the highest hills. I had thought that the water would never come up this far, but looking down, it was only a few feet away, lapping at the long, green grass.
We had to get out of here, and fast.
We had to swim.
Tentatively stepping into the cold, gray water, I sucked in my breath. It was like liquid ice, and I knew that more than five minutes in there and my mother and I would freeze to death. Well, we'd drown if we stayed, too.
I plunged in. My mother slowly stepped in after me, picking up her feet as if that would help her get away from the water. Now, we just needed someplace to swim to... WIP
