She loved these hills, for so many reasons. Chief of these? She could see for miles when she stood atop the highest one. She could see the distant mountains, the forests of trees that, in autumn, looked like fire with their red and orange and yellow boughs waving in the highland winds. She could see the lakes and rivers and swamps at the edge of the foothills, and the boats that drew v's across the water. She could see the fields full of deer and the acres of farmland beyond. She saw, and she photographed these sights to share them with others, people that couldn't get up to the top of Her Hill to see Her Sights.

Another reason she loved these hills? Her father brought her to them as a child, on the backs of the same horses she'd grown up with. He camped there with her, under the stars. He told her stories of his own adventures, his own journey to bring back pictures of incredible places for people who couldn't go there. He showed her countless photographs on those hills, and when her sixteenth birthday came, gifted her her first camera. She immediately filled the roll with pictures of the sights from those hills, pictures of her dad and her horse and, when they got home, pictures of their house and the new foal that her dad gave to her to raise herself.

Years passed, and she continued to go to unimaginable places and photograph gorgeous phenomenon. Wildfires, floods, tornados, and so many more of Kodak, her horse. Her bedroom was plastered with pictures of all kinds, even Kodaks' barn was filled with photographs. And yet, more years passed. And with passing years, inevitably, comes heartbreak.

Right around her twentieth birthday, her father, who'd been diagnosed with supposedly benign cancer, passed away. Her mother was distraught, and they had to sell off most of the horses and other livestock, leaving only Kodak and her father's aging horse. Months later, and her mother followed her father into the afterlife, her father's horse soon after, and she was left alone with the failing ranch.

The first thing she did? Ride out to Her Hill with Kodak, at the peak of the night when the most stars were visible and the sky was more than a quilt of black. She sat at their campsite, tracing the patterns in the stars and waiting for... something. She sat and she waited and she contemplated for so long the sky began to tint with faint pink. Behind her, the shuffling of hooves and a soft nicker before her camera was lowered into her lap. She glanced up into the kind eyes of Kodak, and broke down, throwing her arms around the mare's neck and sniffling into her warm coat.

She let her cry it out, and afterwards the two returned home to pack up and... go. They couldn't bare to sell the ranch property, not when it was already paid off, so they kept it under her name and they moved in with a group of her friends and their horses, eventually able to travel the world and photograph their experiences together.
