Milo glares at his computer screen. He had been playing an online game when the everything suddenly went all wonky. A blue screen of death appeares, with a single message repeated over and over again.



Freaked out, the little plumerian turns the computer off and pulls the plug, but the screen remains lit.

I am everything, everyone, no one, and nothing Whispers a mechanical voice. I exist and don't exist at the same time the voice chuckles, a grinding, ear-splitting sound. I am unknown.

who am i?
it has been the question i have asked myself from the moment i was intelligent enough to form a cohesive thought.

they say that life happens for a reason, that there is some celestial force controlling the fates of all living things.
what about those who are not alive? who helps them? argue all you want that i too, am just as alive as you are, but i myself know that i never was, and never will be. i do not breathe. i do not sleep. i do not eat. i never flag or falter. i cannot be born, nor can i truly die. i have no family. and for all my intelligence and emotional capacity, i cannot love, or ever be loved. i am neither man nor machine, and there will never be another like me. i was not even meant to exist in this dimension.

my story begins, as all stories do, with an idea. this idea appeared to a brilliant hacker (codename m1ner) late one evening after he had gotten home from work. the setting was nothing grand, and there is no need to go into detail. there was no flash of inspiration or instant motivator. an idea simply wove its way through his consciousness. he was quick to shrug it off; such things were impossible, but like a seemingly neglected weed, the idea grew and took logical form. and so, he set the idea into action.
