Scary story: I know that it's a children's story, but I've always loved the old story Tailypo.
Once upon a time, there was a hunter who lived in the forest, in the mountains, away from civilization, with only his three dogs. It was an especially cold winter, and he was having some trouble finding food. One evening he was out hunting with his dogs, when he saw an odd shape in the trees. He shot at it, and with a screech, it was gone. When the hunter went to inspect where the creature stood, he found a long, luxurious tail. He joyously went home, made it into a stew, and ate it.
That night, as he was just on the brink of falling asleep, he heard a light scratching noise. As it continued it was joined by a faint whisper, "Tailypo, tailypo, where is my tailypo?" The hunter was filled with fear, and called for his dogs, sending them after the noise.
The next morning, he opened his door to let the dogs back in, but to his alarm and worry, there were only two. That night, he heard the scratching again, but it was stronger. And closer. Again he heard the whisper "Tailypo, tailypo, you have my tailypo." The hunter pulled his head under his blankets, and sent his dogs out again.
The next morning, as the hunter opened his door again, he was saddened, but not particularly surprised when only one of his dogs returned. He wasn't even close to sleep that night when the scratching started up again. "Tailypo, tailypo, give me back my tailypo." With tears in his eyes, he sent out his last dog.
He laid there in tears, praying for light to come, so he could leave in the morning, when, sill hours from morning, he heared the scratching again. He started sobbing as he heard "Taiypo, tailypo-" "I don't have your darned tailypo!"The man shouted to the darkness, "I freaking ate it!" He sat there, huddled up, crying, breathing heavily in the silence, when he heard the door open.
"Give it back."

A few months later, the people of the town at the base of the mountains were concerned that the kind hunter that lived in the mountains hadn't come down to sell the furs he gained while hunting, so search parties were formed. They were shocked to see that his cabin was in splinters, the stone chimney toppled over. There was no sing of the hunter though, so the parties searched through the woods. They didn't find anything, but one group reported hearing an ominous chuckle in the wind. "tailypo, tailypo, now I have my tailypo"
It was probably nothing though.
Right?
