indentHe wasn’t always blind. In fact, Bhaskar’s sight was once something truly spectacular. As a young sun, he was born with his eyes closed. And they stayed closed for so long, it seeped he would never open them…and then he did. And the world lit up. Bhaskar’s eyes shone as if they were made of sunlight and moonlight woven together, and that inner light revealed things to Bhaskar, things that try to stay hidden in the shadows. Bhaskar was able to see the truth - pure, unabridged, and harsh – in everything. It was a terrible burden, especially for one so young, and yet, it could have become a great gift in time.

indentYet Bhaskar, blinded by truth, could not see past his perception of his “curse”. He took to wearing a blindfold, to keep his shinning eyes hidden. He hoped that in hiding the light, he would hide the harshness of the world. He retreated to the land of the mind – seeking only the company of books, whose simple ink and paper could not assault his mind with visions of the unwanted truth.

indentIn this way, Bhaskar became a great scholar, but he could not hide from the truth forever. Bhaskar spent his life hiding from the double sided truth of his vision. Hiding from good it could do, if only he could learn to accept the bad that came with it. Once something so pure as the truth find you- it is hard to lose sight of it. But that is exactly what happened to Bhaskar. He spent so long hiding from the truth, that eventually, the truth stopped seeking him out. It wasn’t until it was too late- until Bhaskar realized that it wasn’t just the dimness of a room that was hiding the words on a page from him – that the Iqena saw the awful truth of what was happening to him.

indentA gift must be used, or it will leave you. And since Bhaskar refused to use his gift of pure sight- it abandoned him. Little by little, Bhaskar’s vision faded, and the Iqena was left alone in his library, desperately trying to read as much as he could before the inevitable happened. And once it did- Bhaskar’s world, which was once filled with the possibility of endless light, was dark.

indentHe mourned the loss of his vision- mourned the loss of his books, and his scrolls. And after the world went dark, Bhaskar found himself yearning for the simple flickering light of a candle. And so now, although it is too late, Bhaskar seeks out the truth. He will chase it to the ends of the earth and back. While it started out as a quest for his vision, along the way, Bhaskar learned to accept the true value of what was taken from him, and has vowed to protect the truth in whatever manner he can.

Name Cecily
Gender Female
Personality Cecily is a rather quiet and secretive Iqena. She prefers to stay alone in the darkness of her home. With her blindness came her hatred for the world that she couldn't see. She absolutely despised the weak there for hating herself for her own weakness. Cecily only finds joy in her sleep where she can see in her dreams.
How did they lose their vision? There was no depressing backstory or accident that caused Cecily's blindness. Cecily happened to get a sort of illness that slowly and painlessly took away her vision. In the last couple days of vision, Cecily's anger towards the disease overwhelmed her. She tore up cloths that had been hanging around her home, she took a piece of shredded cloth and tied it around her eyes, making the blindfold.

Name
'Isma (ah-sa-mah)
-derived from the Arabic word for "safeguarding"

Gender
Female

Personality
Curious, Dutiful, Kind, Stubborn, slightly Moody, Self-Indulgent

How did they lose their vision?

When 'Isma first woke to the world she was greeted by the setting sun turning the rolling sands of the Arabian desert to a field of gold, and then watched as the moon and stars turned the sand into silver after the sun fell beneath the horizon.Enraptured by the sight, she made every effort she could to learn everything about what she now claimed as her domain. In the days after she first became closely intimate with the creatures that occupied the desert. She knew where each type of reptile, mammal and bird liked to take shelter, where they preferred to get their food, and the times when . Once her first rain fell, she dedicated herself just as much as to the plants when she discovered how they covered the sands with vibrant color for a few fleeting days before they returned to their dormant states to wait for the next rain.

However, the humans who traveled through her domain were greatest curiosity of all. She observed how they went about their way of life for weeks on end, occasionally poking through their possessions while the people slept to learn even more. The things she found were beautiful; colored cloths in rich hues of red, yellow, blue and many others; written texts ornamented with precious metals and jewel-colored paint; even the plain everyday things were beautiful to her. Each object was created for a meaningful purpose, and she was fascinated with the idea that each one had a duty like she had a duty to her domain. She came to care for the traveling people as part of her domain, and guided them among the sands whenever they were lost or desperate. Believing her to be a benevolent spirit the people gave her her name she happily used as her own.

And then came the day where she saw the sun disappear long before the moon and stars were supposed to take its place. A raging back cloud had appeared on the horizon and quickly crept across the sky to take over the sun, sending 'Isma's domain into darkness. Not want to lose witness to the spectacle, she withstood the pain as the wind lashed sand around her and kept watch for the first hint of the sun prevailing over the shroud of sand and regaining its reign over the sky. As the wind died and the sand fell away the reveal the sun once more, she soon realized her mistake.

Though 'Isma knew her domain was no longer in darkness, she could tell nothing more than that the level of light had increased. She saw no shapes, no color, and now felt how her eyes burned with pain as trapped grains of sand shifted and scratched at delicate membranes. Even as her eyes healed, the sand would create wounds anew. She has come to enjoy the experience of learning through her hearing, but whenever she felt the sun begin to set, she sorrowfully dreams of fields of gold and silver.

(The short story totals 500 words exactly c:)

-Hi, the story turned out to be a bit... fantastic, so I'm really sorry if it isn't legal in canon. I didn't mean any disrespect or anything... If it was, in any way, not allowed or anything, please tell me...? I'm really sorry!-

Fire
-a simple translation of her name-

--Gender--
Asexual-Female

--Personality--
||A fiery heart and a cool mind||

||A harsh disinterest and seeming lack of emotion that can be misunderstood||
||A certain calmness that allows her to deal with any situation with keen focus and an open mind.||
||Straightforward and honest, if tending to justifiable embellishment; she loves a good story as well as any Iqena would.||
||While tending toward simplicity, she has a fondness for complex ideas, problems, and designs.||
||Her attitude hides a fierce persistence and an enduring mental fortitude||

||She does not shy away from a challenge.||

||A rambly, more candid side of her is revealed when she is talking about herself and her vision.||
--An Account of an Iqena Called Fire--

In a quest for knowledge, sacrifices must be made.

This account is in no way justification for what I have done. What I did is my decision and mine alone. I do not regret it. This is simply a story, whether fact or fiction not even I, who recounts this as a confession, can tell. Whichever you believe it to be, if anything, you must try to take it in with an open mind. If not, all I ask is that you hear this:

A sacrifice made in honor is never lost.

I regard sight as the most precious sense of all. I cherished it, and I lived by it. There was a time when others would say that I could see colors beyond what their eyes can, but I can neither affirm nor negate this. I know not what they see.

Knowing was all I lived for. I traveled as far as a common Iqena can, and no further. I had not the ability to go further. That does not mean I did not wish. I did. There was but one way to go further.

The way is through death, and honorable death at that. I was mad, blind, ambitious. I sought the Draeck, our predators, beasts. While they sought knowledge as I did, I sought them.

A crazed solution, but one that, I regret to admit, makes some amount of sense to me. The reason is simple: there is, arguably, some honor in thoughtless risk and sheer disregard of the odds.

What honor I thought I had was a lie. Perhaps I wished to trick Justice, Truth and the Mystics themselves. Perhaps I only wanted to trick myself. It was not so. I tricked no one.

All I sought was death, and yet when faced by it, I cowered. The beast held beauty in the fear it inspired, the fear that accounts and images failed to ingrain in me. There was nothing to regret. There was only... survival, and not only mine.

”I... I can give you what you want!”

The beast could not have understood. Perhaps it felt. Perhaps it was rather full. Either way, I was not eaten on the spot. Broken words in garbled languages were exchanged: images, crude, corrupted and crystal-clear. I was in a desperate run for survival. Perhaps when face-to-face with a demon beyond their power, even the noble just fight to live, and I was not.

Perhaps already it was feeding. As seconds came to minutes and I lost track, my vision faded. For each image, I saw clearer; for each image, my eyesight blurred. Eventually it would fade to darkness. There was but one thought: I am still alive.

What happened, I can never explain. I was somehow rescued. It might have been nothing more than a nightmare, and yet darkness remained. Perhaps my honor was restored in my loss. It isn't a curse. Do not pity me. Blind, I can comprehend in a different dimension of sound and light.

Name: Alona. This name is a Spanish name that means 'Light'

Gender: female

Personality: As proven by the way she lost her vision, Alona is very caring for others, even if they are strangers. She is very affectionate and guards her loved ones in the kindness way as possible. Alona does not want to feel as if she has a better skill then the other, and will take it as far as changing something about her physical abilities to be fair to the others. Alona is highly against violence, and despises of iqena that dare to strike her through taunting words, such as calling her 'blind' in a snarky way. Other then that, Alona is very laid back, calm, and reserved.

How did they lose their vision?: One day Alona was wandering around in one of the many cities she was visiting while on her trip around the world. When she tipped her hat up, her eyes locked on a sign in the distance. Walking closer, the words slowly turned into print she could read. A blind iqena was sitting beside a sign that said 'I'm blind, can you help me by donating?' Alona instantly felt sorry for this iqena. Walking up to the sign, she stood there until the iqena put it's hooves around Alona's front hooves so he was now aware of her presence. Alona then turned her head, her eyes locked on the small, pitiful jar the iqena had beside him that only had a few coins in it. Frowning, she then looked over at the sign and realized it wasn't that attracting. Walking over to the sign, she picked up the mark in her mouth and flipped the sign over with her hooves. She then wrote on the back, decorating it with a sun, clouds, and grass. There was a quote in the center in cursive font that said -

It's a beautiful day.. and I can't see it

As Alona walked away, several people passed and dropped bits of cash and coins in the jar for the poor iqena. Feeling proud of herself, she then realized it was unfair that she could see and that poor iqena couldn't. When she got home that day, she looked around until she could finally find a blindfold. She then grabbed a sewing kit before she put the blindfold over her eyes. Brushing her fur aside, she put a edge on each side of her head, and stitched the blindfold into her skin. While this did hurt, she did not regret it afterwards. She felt as if this was a great idea, since it meant that the iqena and her could be equal.

How did they lose their vision?

I am Silence in the Darkness
I was born without my eyes
I feel the shifting of distant worlds
And the singing of the skies

I have never seen the heavens
The cosmos hides from me
Born with a blessed curse
I long, and fear, to see.
