Artistic Portrayal: The moonlight shown upon Deschain as he stood before the foals whose eyes were bright with admiration for the storyteller before them. "The howl of the wolves echoed sadly through the valley," Deschain murmured, a faraway look in his eyes. "The loss of their alphas, their family and leaders, was more than they could bear. The pup knew that it was his fault though; he had strayed too close to the bear and his family paid the ultimate price. So, my dear foals, that is why you must always listen to you parents. What would happen if you lost them over something silly?"
*Flashback*
Deschain snuck out of the stable he and his mother shared, wanting to explore more than he was allowed by both his mother and the owner. The equids around him were merely used for pulling and to entertain children as they quite enjoyed how friendly the herd he belonged to was. He trotted forward past the kerosene lantern that sat on the stool beside his human's tack room. Little did he know that his long, spindly tail knocked over the lantern. He squeezed through the partly open barn door, a mischievous glint in his eyes. He tore off across the field and up the hill to where his mother would never let him go. It was then that he heard the sounds, the screams. His head whipped around as fast as equidly possible and looked to see the barn ablaze, the sounds of sirens blaring in the far off distance as he saw lights flicker on in the human's house. One cry stood out, that of the panic in his mother's whinny as she cried out to him. He let out a cry of his own and stumbled quickly down the hill towards the barn only to be stopped by the human as arms wrapped around his shoulders. The cries he heard echoed in his head, scarring permanently in his mind.
He often wakes up sweating from the nightmares of the night being replayed every night over and over again. It was now his duty to make sure none of the foals ever made his mistake again.
