show name: Dark Desires
barn name: Taboo
gender: stallion
halter color: fading blues
story: Taboo actually quite liked swimming his first time and he even did it by him self.

He was a young stallion and living near the beach. He always saw the older horses going into the ocean, not too far but just deep enough so it was up to their necks. Taboo knew they had all learned to swim when they were young and with a human near by. But Taboo decided he wanted to learn on his own.

The next day the horses were brought to the beach he ran straight to the waters edge. He stared for a while and then took a few steps. He went in deeper, up to his belly and the cool water made him jump. He heard a few humans coming up behind him but he was determined. He plunged deeper and next thing he knew his feet were off the ground. Taboo swam in a couple big circles, holding his head high, proud of what he did(and of course to keep water out of his nose). Taboo came out of the water after a long 10 minutes of splashing around when the horses where called to come back to the barn. He could not wait to go swimming again!

show name: The Monster Below
barn name: Kraken
gender: stallion
halter color: a kraken eating a ship on a ocean blue background... Or something like that...
story: Kraken got his name from his quick ability to pick up swimming, which all the tolters in his herd know how to do because there is a lake in their pasture. It is quite a nice lake but it can get deep in places and well Kraken being the little devil that he is often likes to come up from the deepths to scare unsuspecting members of his herd. But that's not how he started to swim... It started just a week after he was born, when his mother was sure his little legs would be strong enough to move through the water and keep him afloat. One by one all the foals born that day slowly walked into the water, shivering a little as the cool liquid touched their little legs. Kraken was the last to go in, he was definitely unsure of the water but he also liked how peaceful it all looked.
Soon the water was touching his belly he was still uncertain but continued on, his mother following a short distance behind, just incase, soon Kraken was bobing up and down in the water trying to touch the bottom, his mother neighed for him to swim but he was scared. Then all at once his head went under water, his mother waited, and then he popped back up his little legs moving quickly to keep him afloat.

By the end of the day he was the fast little swimmer the herd had seen, always moving quickly, both above and under the water. That's when he started coming up beside and nudging other horses under the water, this happened as his herds owner was coming out, and that's where he got both of his names from. He was like a little Monster Down Below, a Kraken.

Show name: SATO Legend of the Black Pearl
Barn name: Legend
Gender: Stallion
Halter color: -will provide reference-
Story: Water? What is this thing you call water?

Legend's first experience with water- deep enough to swim in, mind you- was when he was a yearling. He'd just turned a year old, a strong, rambunctious colt, and the decision had been made by the Amethyst Ridge Ranch staff to take some of the competitors out to the beach while en route to a competition in San Diego. Legend had been travelling with them to take part in a halter class, his debut competition. When they arrived at the beach, the horses were turned out to play among the waves on their own pace. Legend, the adorably clueless brat that he was, beelined straight for the water; it had been a long drive, and he'd knocked over his water earlier that morning. He was so thirsty. Paying no mind to the undulations of the blue water, he pranced out into the cool surf and happily ducked his muzzle down taking a large gulp of the wonderfully cold-

The colt released a sudden squeal as the horrific taste registered on his tongue, and he reared in sudden shock. His noise of distress attracted the attention of the nearby jumpers, who chuckled to themselves at his dramatic reaction; if a horse had been able to blush from embarrassment, then no doubt Legend's face would have gone from a deep onyx to a bright red. Ears pinned and common sense thrown to the wind, the cold reared up and attempted to slam his hooves into the edge of an oncoming wave as punishment. Of course we all know that water cannot feel pain, but Legend seemed to overlook that.

He chased each wave as it came in, striking out and meeting the next one farther out each time he reared. Slowly he began to notice the water creeping up his body; two minutes later and the sand fell away and the ocean held him afloat. Legend wasn't sure whether to be scared or ecstatic. He'd never gone swimming before, and now here he was, doing it all by himself-

A sudden large wave crashed over him, forcing the Tolter underwater. His legs flailed, body twisting and contorting as he desperately sought air. He tried to keep the panic in his movements controlled, but with each passing second that became more and more difficult with the increasing burning need for oxygen in his lungs. Finally he broke the ocean's surface and took in a huge breath, righting himself within the short lull between waves. It took legend a moment to find his rhythm, but once he found it, the ebony stallion was swimming like an olympic athlete, climbing back up the shore and moving for his rider. His heart was still racing from his near-drowning, but at least the after effects of adrenaline were keeping him from getting cold, right?

Ever since that first day Legend has had a love-hate relationship with the ocean. He prefers to swim in calmer fresh water, but still loves to visit the beach and smell the surf, watching the sunrises and sunsets with his rider.

show name: Coracinus (Raven black in Latin)
barn name: Cory
gender: stallion
halter color: black
story: Terror. Terror was his first time swimming. Cory struggled to keep his head up above the water. He was sure his was living out his last moments. See he was always afraid of water. I mean how isn't something that with one wrong move could cause a watery death not scary? Rightfully, he never dreamed of the day he would find himself swimming in it. And as expected he surely he wasn't a happy camper when that day came. Cory was being ridden when suddenly he hear a sound, a loud scary sound. He spook dashing away for the sound leaving his rider behind. There was one think Cory don't plan out in his run. Water. In a hasty thoughts he jumped in the water not realizing how deep it was. That he was going to have to swim. His not-thought-out out plan left him trying to stay a float in the water. Luckily his rider found him and helped the tired stallion get to shore. As soon as he was on land sweet land, he promised something to himself. That was the first and the last time he will ever swim, ever. A promise he plans on keeping.

barn name: Cricket
gender: stallion
halter color: Based on cracked ice <3
story: Cricket's first experience with swimming was most definately not intended to happen, and it was not a good experience either. You see, this handsome boy just so happens to be the Houdini of the Tolter world. On a chilly January day when he was a young colt, Cricket decided that he would go exploring. And so, somehow, he managed to get out of his paddock. His escape exit is still unclear. Anyway, down one of the hacking trails he went, bouncing along like a deer. After a short period of time, the trail opened up into a 'meadow'. Well, that meadow, just so happened to be a frozen, snow blanketed pond. Seeing this as the opprotunity to play and buck, Cricket charged rightt into the center of the wide clearing. He took a great leap and soared over a large snow drift, but as his hooves landed again, there was a terrifying cracking sound and the ice shattered beneath his hooves. Cricket plunged into the icy water, flailing in a panicked frenzie. Struggling to get to the surface, the black colt thrashed his hooves wildly until his head emerged from the water. Giving a whinny of distress, Cricket clawed frantically with his front hooves, trying to haul himself out of the icy depths. Finally, he got a hold and managed to drag himself out of the water and up onto the ice, carefully but quickly, he made his way back to the trail. When he was back on track, Cricket bolted back to to barn, down the trail. He was later found dripping and violently shivering at the barn door.

hello, bonjour

herro der mes amis, i am believe. proud canadian, ottb loving, colt breaking, nfr dreaming. pictured on the left is my racetrack reject, landofmakebelieve, aka molly, moo, shmoo, whatever name comes to mind x] molly is a 10 year old canadian bred thoroughbred mare, and standing at about 16.2hh, we look a little wonky when we chase cans, but la dee da that's alright. molly and i tried several disciplines. i tried desperately to get her to catch on to dressage, but unfortunately, she still has the race bred mind and is all go. however, together we found a discipline which we could both enjoy; western gaming. this summer we started travelling to barrel races locally. our current record on a standard size pattern is 17.314 and we are improving with every run. and to all the low budget barrel racers out there such as myself, a word of advise; chin up darling. you may not have a million dollar mount under your butt, but you and your crossbred, rejected, hard headed, rescue baby can do it. you know why? cause those girls sitting in their custom circle y's, upon shiny, top of the line mounts are full of themselves. they think there's no way they can lose. they get cocky. stay humble, believe in yourself, in your horse, and most importantly ride your little heart out.

barn name: Security
gender: stallion
halter color: Seafoam green
story: Security's first experience with swimming was when he was just a foal. He was born on the shores of a big, beautiful lake during the spring. Three months later, he swam for the first time. Security's dam had swum across a channel and the tiny colt didn't know what to do, he was panicking and screaming for her from the other shore while she whinnied at him. The stallion of the herd then approached Security from behind and gently bumped him in the rear, startling him into the water before plunging in after him. The large red dun gently encouraged his son across the the channel with the rest of the herd in pursuit. About halfway through, the colt began to struggle the swim, as the channel was wide and he was tiring. His dam noticed this and leapt in to her her foal cross, he made it safely to the opposite side and was rewarded with a thorough grooming from his mother and a meal. Security has, surprisingly, loved the water ever since.

barn name: Hypnos
gender: stallion
halter color: Black witherite silver buckles
story:
When tolters are young, to get their strength up so they can tolt better, they are swam regularly in a swimming lane. When Hypnos was about 2, his breeder brought him to the swimming lane. He was unsure of it at first, he didn't really like the place, it smelt... strange. His breeder clipped two long metal rods to his headcollar. Hypnos spooked violently and the poles knocked his breeder and two attendants into the water! Hypnos took a moment to register what had happened. He felt guilty. His breeder and the two attendants got out the water, sodden and miserable. Now it was his turn. The now grumpy attendants picked up the poles. Now he knew what they were, he didn't spook. They lead him either side to a little ramp and he was walked down in. As the water sloshed around his hooves, Hypnos stopped and curiously sniffed at it. He knew it from his water bucket. He stuck his long pink tongue in it. Unfortunately, for Hypnos, it didn't taste like water. He threw his head up and his breed cooed to him gently soothing him. The attendants led him further down the ramp. He then noticed the attendants were getting taller, they'd tricked him into thinking that they were coming down with him but they weren't. He snorted in protest and frantically looked for a way to get out. But now he couldn't turn and he gave his breeder an accusing look with his huge brown eyes and she felt guilty. As walked down to him and fed him a carrot and then she climbed back up. Hypnos was pulled further in until it was halfway up him. He stuck his velvet black muzzle in and snorted. It was oh so cold too! He bravely carried on, the attendants and his owner pulling him through the little lane and talking softly to him. Then the ramp came to and abrupt stop. Then pulled him on and Hypnos baulked a bit, then he gave in. He gave a massive leap and with a mighty splash he leapt in to the deeper water. It was now over his back. He found he had to do a galloping motion to propel his way forwards. Ten minutes later he had got the idea and now the end was in sight. He gave a joyous nicker. When he got out of the pool, he shook, soaking the attendants and his breeder all over again!
