Her slender form caught Jack's eye immediately and he nearly tripped over himself as he lurched down to pick up the bundle of lilac-colored flowers he'd gathered for her. He knew her favorite color was lilac and he knew that there was no other color that would ever compare in her eyes.
How I wish the pink in my mane was lilac...
Heart pounding, he began to go through the checklist he had made during his preparation for the big day.
Gather flowers. Check.
Get the perfect messy look. He shook, sending the hair in his mane different directions. Check
Back straight. Head up. Knees high. He corrected his posture.
"Oh Monochrome! Don't go!" His heart nearly stopped as he saw the beautiful mare begin to go about her business elsewhere. When she stopped to see who had called her name, Jack bolted to where she stood. The flowers hung limp in jaw as he slid to a halt in the grass in front of her. He noticed their sorry state and he hung his head, defeated.
"Happy Valentines Day..." He mumbled, dropping the lilac-colored flowers at her hooves. His ears burned with a blush. He couldn't read the expression on her face and he quickly began to worry. Of course, even his most meticulous planning could go wrong.

Like many males, he was naïve, foolish to believe he could find love at the tender age of three. Unlike many, he had the sophistication of an experienced stud, the tenderness of a lover, and was a gentleman many girls swooned over. He was never one to give a lady false hope; he would never lead a girl on. If a girl were to pour her heart and soul out to him, he’d let them down gently and somehow manage to stay friends. His name was Reese. He was a sweetheart, a charmer, and a hopeless romantic. While he took pride in his way with the ladies, he never dared to “mess around” or risk gaining a “player” type of reputation. Reese believed in true love, and he was willing to do anything to find his soul mate. Once he thought he found her, a beautiful girl by the name of Quinn. She was short, freckled, and absolutely breathtaking. She was a farm girl and he, a country boy. Two quids from two different worlds, yet both were so alike. Curious, she followed them, down to the forest entrance where she found a freshly bathed Reese, holding a few roses in his mouth. Muffled, he asked, “May we talk, please?”

You stirred my soul the minute I saw you. I had always been a skeptic in love at first sight, but with you...I fell head over hooves as they say. I was never good at the art of wooing another, but I tried my best. I started out small and left day lilies for you at the rock by the river, the one I knew you always stopped by. I knew that those are your favorite because they're the only ones you stop and sniff. I remember when you decided to hide and see who was sending you the lilies, and I recall being not so suave when you confronted me. I have to say, I was terrified. I needed you to trust me, to give me a chance. Like paper, trust is easy to crush, but impossible to smooth out. I was careful. I tried not to come on too strong, yet give you the attention you deserve. I felt whole for the first time. I gave you my heart Val, and I felt you were starting to give me yours. With each flower I left for you on the rock, the more my love for you grew and the more the ice between us melted. I loved to spend my time with you, and finally, the fruits of my labour paid off when you came up to me and slept by my side. My heart nearly stopped Val, and I still hold this moment close. Days went by and things seemed to be going well. I thought I had been successful in courting you, but less than a week later, you were gone. I know you Valence, you would never leave out of malice. I knew you needed space to think about this, I know you dislike commitment. So I wait. I continue to leave lilies for you, and each day, I see that they're gone. I left this note here for you knowing you'll find it. I fear the day I'll come back to the stone and see the day lilies still there, wilted. Valence...I love you. Nothing in the world can change that. I hold a light of hope in my heart that one day, you'll figure things out and come back to me. I'll be waiting for you Valence. Till then, the lilies shall keep me company.
