[ name ]
Amara
[why you picked her name ]
I picked her name because it means love in Italian. I feel that love has become the center of her life and that her name is what drew Cupid to her in the first place.
[ love story ]
It wasn't fair, she didn't ask for this at all. Amara didn't want to be hit by Cupid's bow, but here she was, absolutely besotted by this stupid, dark, amazing, lovable boy. His name? Mreep. He wasn't even that interesting, but that didn't matter, there wasn't anyway around this awful love spell that was put upon her. 'Why? Why me?' She thinks as she gazes upon him with love sick eyes, like those of a puppy who sees their owner come home after a day of loneliness.
It made her sick.
Mreep himself wasn't too special to look at, his coat was a dark gray color an he was adorned with beautiful swirls and stripes. His fur was long and flowing and it cover his eyes in just a way that made her heart unvoluntarily skip a beat. His single horn was bright and shining in the low lights of the coffee shop, where Amara figured out is where he likes to spend most of his free time.
Amara had only spoken with the boy once, when she needed help reaching a book in the library for a personal research project on human emotion. Her own parents were very interested in this subject and had even agreed upon naming her after their favorite, love, in Italian to add more of a (melo)dramatic effect.
He seemed nice enough, Amara didn't sense anything malicious about him. He just seemed sort of ... distant and quiet. He didn't really like to speak in large crowds. It was strange, but utterly endearing. She hated her feelings for him, but she couldn't help but love him all the same. All she wonders is if she would feel this way without Cupid's horrid spell.
So Amara continued to watch Mreep. His face was serene and quite lovely to look at, she had to admit at least that to herself. Mreep seemed to be reading something that Amara couldn't see from her spot outside, and he was drinking a small drink that was a deep chocolatey brown color. He It looked delicious.
Amara was so deep in thought that she didn't even notice Mreep leave his seat, and then proceed to walk outside. Lucky for her, he didn't notice her zoning out and staring at him. That would be horrid and a terrible embarrassment indeed. Amara was completely unaware of the fact until he accidently smacked her with his tail, which was now trailing behind him as he whipped around with a slightly frightened expression.
"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hit you." Mreep continued to mumble and spit out apologies as Amara realized what was going on.
"Oh! Oh my, no darling, don't worry about it! Nothing is the matter. I'm fine." She reassured him with a nervous smile and a red tinge to her already hot face.
Mreep looked up at her from where he stood with a sheepish grin and he extended out a paw to her, "My name's Mreep. Hope I didn't make too much of a fool of myself."
Amara chuckled lightly and took his paw in her own and gave it a slight shake before hesitantly pulling it back. "Trust me, you didn't make a fool of yourself at all. And my name is Amara."
"Ahh, yes, of course, I knew that. Everyone knows who you are Amara. You are quite popular around town. All of the guys buzz about you." It was Mreep's turn to blush as he looked down with a flustered expression. "Hah, you must think I'm a creep now. No one would blame you."
Amara was curious, but extremely flattered. "Is that so? People really talk about me?"
Mreep lifted his gaze with bright eyes. He was obviously glad that Amara didn't think he was strange, "Of course! You're beautiful and smart and funny! Everyone thinks you are great! Definitely the talk of the town." His words spilled out faster and with more enthusiam, more than she had ever seen from him. She loved it. "You're also really sweet to everyone, no matter who they are or what they like to do. You are just really special, a flower in a field of needles."
It suddenly hit Mreep what he just said, his face fell back into the stoic stare he usually had. His wonderful smile was gone. Amara already missed seeing it.
Amara laughed a laugh she hadn't heard from herself in a long time. It was sweet sounding, like bells on a cool morning, the sun shining and the sky bright. Happiness bubbled inside her and for once, she felt as if the spell wasn't the only reason she had these feelings and affection for Mreep.
Mreep looked confused and was about to tell her that he would go and leave her alone, when she looked at the book he was holding.
"What do you have there? It looks like an interesting book." She wasn't lying in the slightest. The book was very large, and looked old, despited the fact that the deep red covers looked so vibrant. The gold pattern spiraled in a beautiful and elegant fashion.
Mreep's shell soon began to open up a bit again, as he shyly told her what it was. "It's a complied list of all of my grandmother's favorite love poems. She gave it to me when I visited her last." He looked at it and then back at Amara again. "I can read you some if you'd like."
Amara was delighted and she nodded, signaling for him to pull out a seat and sit across from her. Mreep did so with a soft smile, clearly happy and somewhat excited.
"This one is one of my favorites." He explained as he opened the book and flipped a few pages in. He cleared his throat before reciting,
"An Entrapment
My love, I have tried with all my being
to grasp a form comparable to thine own,
but nothing seems worthy;
I know now why Shakespeare could not
compare his love to a summer’s day.
It would be a crime to denounce the beauty
of such a creature as thee,
to simply cast away the precision
God had placed in forging you.
Each facet of your being
whether it physical or spiritual
is an ensnarement
from which there is no release.
But I do not wish release.
I wish to stay entrapped forever.
With you for all eternity.
Our hearts, always as one.
- Anthony Kolos - "
Amara was entranced in his words, her eyes warm and her smile welcoming. "That was beautiful." Was all she could say as Mreep finished and focused his view back up at her.
"You really think so?" He asks, hopeful.
Amara nods, her grin widening with every second. "Can you read me another one?"
"I'd love to, but I'm afraid I have to return home. My roommate might be worried about me." Mreep explained with a small frown. "Though, I wouldn't mind meeting you here tomorrow, then I can read to you as many as you wanted."
She nodded again, her heart fluttering in her chest. "I can't wait."
"Until tomorrow then." Mreep stood up from his chair and slowly started to depart from the coffeeshop with a quick wave of goodbye. He looked pleased and walked with a bounce in his step.
Amara sighed quietly and smiled down at the table.
Maybe this wasn't too bad after all...
