Dama, as Tanaris called her granddam, raised her from her fawnhood. High-class & high-strung, Dama was quick to instill her charge with strong attitudes of self-worth & an air of nobility. Having descended from the royal bloodline, somewhere generations ago, why shouldn't they proudly claim their status, Dama wondered. Tanaris was taught to reign among her social circles, conveying power & ambition, coupled with the showiness of her luxurious lifestyle--courtesy of Dama. Tanaris really gave her best effort to obey her granddam, but as she wilted under the strength of Dama's horns, she translated her victimization at home into bullying her peers. This lead to a confusing number of emotions. Her Dama was proud of her, so Tanaris was successful, but the young doe was never at peace between situations. Either she was unhappy or Dama was unhappy.
A coma like fog began to settle over Tanaris' life, and she withdrew farther into herself & into the Cavern of Creation, leaving Dama without a word. For some time, Tanaris lived as a recluse, shrouded in mystery &, as legend developed, magic. When she finally reappeared, tired of her cowardice & determined to bring dignity back to her name, she transformed into a independent & wise doe. She speaks only when necessary & is regarded as a visionary with high spiritual awareness, she is occasionally sought out by other bijoux for her knowledge & advice.
As much as Tanaris tried to avoid becoming like her granddam, to some extent she retained similarities with Dama. Often coming off as detached & cold, Tanaris is really lost in her own head. She treats all with the respect, which was previously denied them in her younger days. Perhaps one day clarity shall arrive to her & unlock the light & the romance hidden in Tanaris' soul, but until then there remains a slight gloom about her.
What drew Tanaris to the Cavern of Creation was also what kept her there. She was deeply fascinated with the enveloping darkness, not just for the sake of solitude, but because it felt safe, wrapped around her like a cocoon. There was a comfort in the vast emptiness that she could find nowhere else. The silent black pools of water shone the gems from above; it was the underground sky of stars, shimmering to show their presence. It was in the Cavern that Tanaris began her studies of the world her kin inhabited. Perhaps it was all the time she spent secluded that seemed to minimize her need for outside interaction, but Tanaris thought little of this, so enthralled with the growth & creation of the gems. I might argue that if she were to find another Bijoux just as captivated, curious, & pioneering as herself, the bond between those two would be stronger than a diamond.
Although she has grown & wizened considerably, there is a childish wonder & hope that outshines all else. Let us not forget the insight that children bring to our lives, seeing outside the constructions we have built & molded ourselves into to understand the world.
