Equid's Name: Chennai, nicknamed Chai owo
Age: 4
Gender: Mare
Height: 14.1 hh
Answer: Her memory goes back to when she was a yearling. She had been born and bred in Chennai, India (how they managed to come into possession of an Equid is unknown), but as times got tough for her owners, they needed a horse they could ride to the market as they had no car and no wagon to hitch her to. Chai was still young, but she knew life as she knew it was ending. She and her mother were being separated. Her mother was to fly to the states and she to the Canadian Rockies. Though sad she had to part with her mother, she was excited and looked forward to Canada. Her mom gave her words of encouragement.
"Don't worry, my child. Everything will be alright. Just promise me one thing. Never forget who you are and where you came from. You may be in Canada, but your heart lies here. What else have I taught you?"
"Always be kind to others. If you don't know their story, don't make assumptions" she recited proudly.
Chennai took these words of advice and held them close. She vowed to stay true not only to herself, but to where she came from. One of the children who became close to her suddenly ran towards her, tears streaming down the innocent doll's face. She removed her plain halter and produced a beautiful hand made one add of shimmering fabric wound expertly around brass rings. The fabric must've cost a fortune, much more than this family could afford. Her heart swelled with love, and she hugged the girl. She'd never forget her homeland.
The Rockies were way different than the crowded city streets of Chennai. No people hustling about, no cries from vendors hawking their wares. Just silence and odd white powdery things called snow. This snow tasted like nothing, and made her mouth feel tingly and cold. For the first couple of weeks, Chai felt lost. This was a strange new world she had to grown accustomed to. Her arrival was bitter-sweet; the end of one life, but the beginning of another. She felt hopeful about this new place. She decided to give it a chance. Sure, it wasn't like home, but with a little time, it could be.
