#1244 silver dapple bay

Postby dreamwalker » Sat Jan 10, 2015 12:38 pm

This boy is partially deaf. He can't hear from his left ear at all, and has little hearing remaining in his right. To try for him, tell me how he feels about his new home (is he nervous or not when he arrives, does he get along with other horses there, does his hearing effect how he settles, etc. You can include whatever details you would like to, and the story can be as long or as short as you want). You may decorate your forms if you would like to

How does he like his new home? Upon arriving the BRIT-HQ, Eric was suddenly hit by a gust of chatter among the horses, many rumors about him were spread around before he even got out of the moving trailer. He felt a pang of hurt emotionally but kept walking. Every day just seems to get worse and worse for him. He tries to avoid other equines because of his fear of teasing and such. One day a dainty female trots up to him and greets him. She goes by the name Layla, and is quite kind to him from the start. She introduces Eric to her other friends, and he gets to know everyone. Eric is hit by sudden realization that the reason his first week has been going so roughly was for the fact that he chose not to talk to others, but instead avoided them. Now, he has an array of friends, and although there may be some disagreements here and there, he gets along well with almost everyone at his new stable.
Extra: The reason I chose to try out for this Tolter is because of my connection to him. I was born entirely deaf, and wear a Cochlear Implant. When I first read that this BRIT was partially deaf, I felt like I could relate to the story you had introduced me with. Being deaf has been a struggle for me, and I have included hints at my own personality, so if I possibly win him, he would be a close character of mine who I can relate to almost entirely.

How does he like his new home?
Freddy was initially quite unsure of his new home after being coaxed off the float. He wouldn't budge, and spent a long time staring at the horses in the far paddocks and every moving thing all around him, as well as sniffing the ground at his feet. He was trying his best to suss out his new surroundings. His ears did a lot of swivelling, and I can imagine his reduced hearing was was still a bit of a sore loss for him, but, by using his other senses, he eventually felt safe enough to walk a few steps toward the barn where we settled him in a quiet stall for the day.
Freddy will stay in the stall until he feels absolutely comfortable with the place, and we'll walk him around the paddocks and arenas so he gets an idea of what he needs to look out for while at South Creek, and in time he will be joining one of our other ponies in a paddock so they can look out for him. His impaired hearing obviously makes him nervous of new surroundings, but we believe that, once he settles in, he'll become comfortable with the surroundings and won't be as nervous.

halter color: old leather with a strip of silver plating down the cheek strap
How does he like his new home? Whinnies of frustration echoed off the trees, carried across the gravel sharply. Survival dipped his good ear towards them, and shook his head when the noises came around to hit his right ear, confusing him. Reassuring hands lightly rubbed his shoulder, his face being guided down calmly in the same breath. There was a solitary appaloosa stallion in the field, who's mane sat askew, and ears sat immobile like wilted flowers. With his back foot tilted forward, his hip dipped down, he kept his head low, savoring the sun on his back. Survival whinnied, hearing it soundly in his neck, the vibrations shaking his ribcage. The stallion in the field did not whinny back. Survival promptly figured out the stallion could not hear, and comfort rolled through his senses. Led into the field, Survival shuddered as the metal gate swung shut behind him. Horses in neighboring pastures pushed their chests against the fence, reaching out with their snouts and lips to catch a glimpse of the new horse. The appaloosa stallion perked his ears up, lifting his head to the side to look the new stallion up and down. The gentle hands that had been holding him waved, and the appaloosa stallion kicked his feet up. Survival understood very quickly that they used hand signals for the deaf stallion.
Later in the afternoon, other horses where slowly filtered into the fenced field. Each horse made leisurely, distinct movements, keeping their head level with their chests. Every horse had accustomed to living with others who could not hear. As the night progressed, Survival became more acquainted with the gentle souls around him, including a tall boy with a shock of black hair who came to the fence. He never spoke, and did not turn when he was called. Survival met many other young humans who could not hear, and Survival had never felt more welcomed.
Extras: I should explain that in my barn, all the horses work with disabled, crippled, sightless, and deaf people. I own a stallion who is completely deaf named Jackle, and the kids absolutely love him.

name: Jio
halter color: Black, silver studded and silver metal.
How does he like his new home?
Jio has always been a calm and down to earth kind of Tolter, rarely he was seen annoyed or even snapping at others. This has never changed, not since back then nor nowadays. Being the mellow and good natured guy he is, he had little difficulties with the moving to a new home. Yes, things were different now, new building, new stalls, new horses and new persons, but one thing hasn't changed at all and that was the fact of the little hearing he had that was left. Jio has lived with it being a foal, there was no way it would ever change as it always has been here and sure a new home wouldn't do as well. A new life, a new chance and new possibilities, that was the motto he lived by, one of the many he had. His hearing being torn down to merely louder noises or loud speaking voices, made it hard to understand horses or people which spoke in the normal and general used volume. He has to fix all his focus on the one or the thing to hear what they said. Otherwise it would barely be an inaudible whisper tickling his ears. Due to this, Jio thaught himself the way of lip and bodylanguage reading. He himself enjoys a good talk pretty much though, even if it can lead to confusion at times, not being able to hear much of his own words or speaking them wrong. The tolter does use bodylanguage and movements to express a couple of things, but he doesn't mainly stick to it. With his experience, he notices mood changes fairly quick, knowing when he did something accidentally wrong. Of course, due to the less hearing he never was a popular one in the tolter community within their barn, but not the outstanding one either. Jio is looking to making friends with others, but he never pressures them into it. He accepts if people don't like him, but he at least tries to show that he has no negative attitude towards them. The stallion is a very understanding one and adjusts the best to the others personality, without changing his true self.

Poem:
Calm like the flow of the stream,
with the force and might hide inside,
light dancing and dappling down on him,
the flick of harks a constant sight.

Amber eyes to see,
a lashing plume to greet,
the warm smile a pure treat.

Slow movements ahead,
step for step to meet,
a new chance to take.

username: Whatever.
show name (optional): örninn
name: Birdy
halter color: bright, almost line but not quite, green
How does he like his new home? Birdy was nervous for the first few days, as he was kept quarantined until fully deepened and vet checked. The obvious lack of other horses made him incredibly anxious, and he accidentally caused many toe bruises, and nipped at a few stable hands when they weren't loud enough for him to hear them. Once he was turned out in a regular paddock he calmed down plenty, especially since he could be housed next to the mares and with the other stallion, Quince. This only worked because Quince acts like a gelding, though there are plans to desperate the stallions when the mares go into heat. Birdy has bonded with Lady and her goal Orca over the fence, the friendship working because Lady is naturally loud and Birdy can always hear her prattling on. When in the barn, Lady and Birdy are stalled next to one another, and she lets him know when a stable hand is coming. They're always led out together too, as she makes him calmer. Birdy is shown in the halter class by Charlie, one of the two barn owners, and has been learning to drive.Charlie hopes to start team driving Birdy and Lady together one day.

congrats!
I'm really happy that you found a horse you can connect with and I have a deep respect for people who can over come the struggles that they're dealt in life. I hope this boy clicks well with you and that you'll have fun owning him~
