In-hand: In hand, Emil is supple and easy to work with. He loves to be lead and cuddled, even though he may act otherwise. Secretly he loves to be looked at and admired, so he's always well-behaved in hopes of impressing others. Plus the only thing showy about him is his coat; he finds acting out childish and unnecessary
Under saddle: Under saddle Emil is perfectly focused, and if he respects his rider, he's the perfect competition horse: obedient, driven, and supple. He always gives his best in the arena or on the course, be it competition or training; out of the course, though, is a different story. His stubborn side comes out, and he has a tendency to take control of the pleasure rides. He doesn't care where you want to go; if he wants to go the the lagoon, then you're both going to the lagoon. Period.
Behavior:
Good: Hard working, focused, intelligent, quick learner, well-behaved in hand.
Bad: Antisocial, stubborn, dislikes saddles (tends to puff out his girth when being saddled), tends to kick stall walls/trailer sides when he wants out.

Personality:
▪ Emil is known to act older than he truly is; stoic, well-behaved, and usually quiet, Emil prefers to enjoy his own company instead of other horses of any breed, and honestly, most other species. Level-headed and mentally strong, he's dependable, steadfast, and stubborn to the point of being infuriating, but he's a perfect mount.
▪ He is known to be passive-aggressive around other horses, though he's never turned fully aggressive nor has ever used violence. He can tend to get easily flustered with the more persistent horses, and will often release himself from a paddock just to get away from them; always using his head, though, the Tolter always locks the paddock back to ensure none of the other horses get out. He's actually easily embarrassed for a stallion; it's quite cute. Just don't tell him he's cute.
▪ When he's training or competing, Emil is actually very supple under the bit; he's focused and driven, and responds perfectly to even the tiniest of riding aids, making him excel at his competition of choice: dressage. He also enjoys haute ecole and reining, though prefers the traditional grace of dressage. On the course or in the arena he's a force not to be reckoned with, as he seems to show the ferocity of the snowstorms that rack his home country.
▪ One side of Emil no one except Stjarna sees is how he acts when it snows; the little white crystals seem to bring out the foal in him, and often the duo (along with little Lundi tucked safely in a warm bag around Stjarna's chest) will go out on long rides and spend the day playing in the snow. After, they take Lundi home to sleep, and Emil and Stjarna make a special trip to the Blue Lagoon, a natural Icelandic hot spring where they both enjoy the warm waters. It's quite funny to watch people's expression when the stallion seems to stomp any dirt out of his hooves, then proceed to wade into the water as if he belongs there. He adores the hot spring.
▪ The part of Emil that no one sees, not even Stjarna or Lundi, is the part of him that stands out in the freezing cold, staring up wistfully at the Northern Lights. Emil is actually very insecure; he's always scared that he won't do well enough, that he'll disappoint Stjarna or Lundi, and they'll turn their backs on him. It's the reason he always trains so hard; he's afraid to fail them.

Companion: Surprisingly, Emil actually has a companion constantly by his side, a baby puffin by the name of Lundi. The little male was found abandoned on the Northern edge of the country, and brought back to Stjarna to rehabilitate. For whatever reason, when Stjarna took the little one to the vet, it was mentioned that the baby would never be able to be released back into the wild. He would've been sold to a zoo or aquarium. Stjarna, noticing that Emil had become attached to the little chick, said that she'd keep him and raise him, so that Lundi wouldn't have to live his life in a zoo. After pleading her case over a three week period, her boss finally accepted, so little Lundi is now there to stay. Emil is very close to the bird, and constantly worries over him; if Lundi isn't in his sight and he doesn't know where he is, Emil starts to get worried, and will eventually drive himself into a panicked frenzy trying to find his friend. Luckily they've learned each others' vocalizations, so usually finding each other is fairly easy.Tack:
