Rukami (Gulo Stantes) are a newly discovered species of bipedal mammals. Though they resemble wolves, they are actually more closely related to the mustelid family, which includes wolverines, otters, and badgers to name a few. Through natural selection, these rare animals evolved to incredible sizes and developed sentient brains along with opposable thumbs.

This Rukami has the ability to reanimate the dead, to the fullest -they will not be zombies, they will not instantly die, they will die however if this Rukami dies. The power this Rukami is will never pass on if he/she has kits, but they may acquire other gifts....

Hikaru is on the lean side, having always been so since birth. Built more for agility and running, Hikaru knows she is physically less bulky than the average 'kami. However it has never bothered her much. Perhaps, because she is well proportioned or because she has never tried to push herself to do something she isn't built for. If one isn't large boned or thick, why should she try to move quite heavy objects? Especially when she has the stamina and agility to move around it a majority of the time and accomplish the same task.
Beyond that, her fur, while about the same length as other Rukamis' is semi-dense, thanks to her father's genetics. This is why she hates humid weather over hot weather. Normal heat is fine, but the humidity makes her thick coat - on top of her longer hair - sticky and heavy. It is uncomfortable and also tends to make her coat prone to collecting more debris, which is unhealthy.

Personality | As a pup, Hikaru was bold and daring. She wanted to explore the world and learn everything about it. Eager to grow up too fast, she was always trying to follow after her parents when they went hunting, go out into the forest before she and her sister were old enough, and the like. It was only ever because of her sister that she could be reigned in. They complimented one another well in that sense. She was always upbeat and fun-loving, carefree and bubbly. Nobody was ever down around her, and life was never dull when she was around. However, she also wasn't very responsible and she was technically a rebellious daughter.
However, after she had brought her sister back, Hikaru grew up fast. She began to take more responsibility for her actions. She began to listen to her parents, help them out and be there for her sister - when she allowed her to. The pale coated female remained positive, but she no longer was carefree or rebellious in nature. She suppressed those urges and moved on to work on having 'better' and 'more proper' emotions until they became true for her.
Now she is a devoted, caring female. She still believes in the better things in life and others. She is quick to smile and help others. Haru is wiser and more perceptive now that she has left her family and has been traveling. Having decided to use her abilities to help others, despite the toll on herself, she believes that it's her calling. She is quiet and unassuming, gentle and generous. Can be passionately devoted to a cause and stubborn to a fault. Because of her caring, generous nature, she can sometimes be easily swayed by others emotionally. She is still inquisitive, but she no longer just charge after her interests. Now, she pursues them with careful as she works to learn about the world and the creatures and beings around her.

History | Haru was born to parents in a region which was cooler more than it was warm. There pair was grateful to have two pups born to them, though they were worried about the birth being earlier than the full term; however, Haru's sister, Ren was more along the lines of a normal sized Rukami pup, Haru was somewhat smaller than average. Neither smelled of disease or illness, and their parents were a loving, determined lot anyway, who were planning on caring and raising their pups into adulthood no matter what. Their parents had a large, stable territory - especially for only two adults - so they figured the odds would be in their favor. And for a long time they were.
As the pups, they grew in leaps and bounds. Their parents provided ample food for them to grow into strong young adolescents, hunting regularly for them. However, to provide said plentiful food, their parents had to hunt for them quite often. Which made for Hikaru and her sister being left on their own quite often. They were left to their own devices for entertainment - for adventure. For a while, they were content to play and tussle in the clearing where they slept and ate with their parents. Then they took to exploring the forests beyond there.
It was as they were playing in the forest when they were six and a half months old, following the river, that they were first spotted by the humans. It took the playing pair a bit to realize that they were being watched. But as soon as they realized it, they were smart and bolted for cover. However, their rushed escape back to their den made quite a bit of noise. And they were so spooked that they didn't think about the odd-looking humans, with their shining, stinking weapons in hand might follow them.
Haru and her sister had finally calmed themselves down and were settling in to try to nap. It had been hours after they had been spotted, the day turning toward late afternoon, early evening. Haru was in the den, clearing out extra dirt, while her sister tried not to fall asleep outside the den. That's when the sharp crack of thunder rang out once right before her sister's scream filled the air. Terrified, Hikaru stayed hidden in the den, but she she heard strange noises coming from what she thought were the humans. That is until the roaring snarls and growls of her parents filled the clearing. The sounds of a fight filled the world above the den for what felt like an eternity, but eventually they came to an end.
Her father called out to her, and Hikaru slunk from the den. The first thing to greet her was not her parents, but the thick smell of blood. She couldn't place it until she looked down at the ground and saw her sister's body - dragged away from the den; as if the humans had been pulling her away from the den. She was barely breathing and blood was still pouring rapidly from the wound in her chest. Crying out, the female with the glow in her eyes and paws ran to her sister's side and fell beside her mother. The family grieved beside the dying pup long into that night and the morning after she passed.
It was as Hikaru's parents were trying to get her to get up, so they could move to a new den - somewhere safer - that the pale female first discovered her powers. She was reaching desperately for her sister, not wanting to leave her behind, even in death. And as their flesh reconnected a bright glow emitted from the connection. Haru cried out as a sharp pain ripped through her chest, causing the pup to curl in on herself; however, her paw remained outstretched and connected to her sister as if glued there. They remained connected until her sister gasped with a new found breath as the last of the damage done to her body was repaired. Hikaru was now the unconscious one.
Fearful that they'd lost one in exchange for the life of another, the pups' parents raced to check on both females. Their mother embraced their revived daughter, their father rushed to the fallen Haru. When they discovered that she was breathing, and just unconscious, their father picked her up and the family of four proceeded to move to a safer den site. Hikaru spent about half a day in pain, and was made to rest. Her sister was fine and had no ill side effects from her wound. Her family was ecstatic to have their family whole once again. However, things between the two siblings were never the same again...

Relationships | Kin - Though she no longer sees them, she left on good terms with her parents and would like to think that they still love her and would welcome seeing her. Her sister on the other hand, she knows not, since they left on such poor terms; Hikaru expects that her sister hates her wholly.
Beyond that, she considers everyone she meets her friend.

Powers | She has the ability to restore the breath of life in those who have passed on to the afterlife. It isn't restricted to any one being, she can restore life to plants or animals.
The Benefits | She can bring life back to those who deserve it - restore families torn apart, those who lost their prematurely, etc.
The Drawbacks | One is that she can only resurrect within a certain time frame; the deceased can only have been dead for three days maximum, as that's how long it takes for the soul to fully leave the body and be accepted into the world of their ancestors. She experiences all the pain of the death of the being she brings back to life - for example if they were burned, plant or animal, she would feel as if her fur and skin were on fire for however long it took them to die. She also has to wait to use her power for as long as the being was dead; so if they were dead for two days, she cannot use her abilities for two days and so forth. She also suffers a toll on her body whenever she uses her abilities. It varies based on what she used her power to bring to life, how much of a toll she has to deal with:
- Short term side effects | Can go from being just short of breath, can't hear, to blind, can't feel anything but her power flowing, to passing out - all is dependent on what she is reviving.
- Long term side effects | Throws up blood and scratches harshly at self frequently to check senses - sight, touch, scent, sound; to check for taste she may lap the blood or will quickly rip up grass just to see if she can taste differences in plants and dirt, etc.
Why She Uses Them | She believes, that though it is a painful burden at times, she was also blessed with the ability to help others. And that she must do her best to help others, even if it ends up driving her mad or killing her.

My eyes opened to the world around me. Everything vast and beautiful. green grass, Brown trees, all covered in powder. a white powder that fell from the sky, like pieces of a cloud. or many clouds. My footsteps were soft, treading carefully through the snow and slush. claws out to hold me steady, and keep my fragile body from falling. My vision blurred In an out as I looked around the area before me. I had saved another life. one who died from a rare disease, not commonly found here in the mountains. it was only known that the tribe that no longer existed had medicines to cure it. But their long gone. said to have been slaughtered by their own people. calling themselves the pure ones. I was one of them. those that were slaughtered. I was killed, but somehow given the chance to live again. bringing with me the essence and power to bring back all life. I was known as Gifford. I was apart of the tribe that was slaughtered. My body reverted to one of pure light. My eyes pure, heart pure, and mind pure. this pureness is what gave me life. what allowed me to thrive. to live. And to give life to others who deserve the right too live again. the pure trial. everyone I meet who dies must be tested. by blood. the color and feel of blood tells me who is pure, and who is not. tells me everything about their life. their personality, their families. everything. then they are chosen. chosen by me, by the forest, by the animals, everywhere. in the end I give a small bit of myself to them. never to feel whole again. persona described - gifford is a kind and quiet soul who wouldn't hurt anyone. even with his dark past, he would never hurt anyone, even if they hurt him. he has never felt the feeling of anger, only happiness and the need to make people smile. there is no corrupted side to him, there is no unmasked anger that is unleased when someone pushes the wrong button. he chuckles at jokes that are turned toward him, finding them ammusing more than hurtful. he is quite caring, loving the young ones, and making flower crowns for them, travelling around and telling children stories of his past. he looks old, but he is not, his appearance is like he was a teen again. he is very compassionate and would never fight anyone. he respects people and their boundaries, never questioning something that needs to be questioned. he is incredibly wise and greatful of what people have given him, what the gods had given him, and what he gives to other rukami's. he tends to have a small issue with questioning everything, finding it great to learn more stuff than he knows. he has only a small memory of his past, and with every reanimation, he learns more about himself and others.

described tolls - gifford needs a full two hour cool down after a reanimation. he can reanimate only 1 rukami at a time, and they have to be dead before a certain time. that time is the golden hour, where if their dead before that hour rolls over, he can bring them back, if their dead longer, he doesn't not have to power to bring them back. but then again, he cannot just reanimate anyone, they must pass a special test that allows gifford to see if their pure. the gods that gave him this power, limited him greatly. he cannot reanimate just anyone, they must be pure of heart, soul and mind, in order for him to reanimate them, regardless of the golden hour or not. the test is simple, taking the blood of the dead and feeling it for the right pure texture. to him, blood has a texture and a particular feel to it that makes it pure. he can see into that rukami's past present and possible future that tells him everything about them.

an invasion of privacy is a small price to pay to be brought back to life. because this draws alot of his strength, he has a huge hunger and has to snack almost constantly, even if it's berries or stealing kills from other animals. he needs to sleep for atleast 2 hours before he can even begin to think about reanimating another. and even then, it could be weaks before his body has fully recovered from the first one, each reanimation, it takes a little longer than before to reanimate, and recover. when he does reanimate someone, he cannot speak, only groan and growl. he has blurred vision, fading in and out and sometimes, he can't even see, although not legally blind.

this weakness, makes him incredibly agressive and a challenge to communicate too, because anyone can kill him, or attack him in his weakened state, freind or foe, he needs to be alert at all times. during this weakened state his other senses are heightened, and his endurance and other physical aspects are enchanced, but only for a short time. it's temprary, and after, his body feels the drain from the reanimation, and all the motion, so that's why he needs to sleep and rest. he can rest from hours up to a week just to recover. he needs to be alone after the reanimation or atleast feel alone. because his aggressive tendencies make him a danger to everyone, even himself. he is disorientated and confused and in pain, causing him to injure himself, or others.

as a cost for this fortune, aside from the fact that they must pass the test and will be in pain or a deep slumber for a few hours up to a few days, they earn a part of his soul. it is theirs to use, weather they corrupt it or not is their choice. they may only be reanimated once, and they are free from their illnesses once reanimated, but once they are killed or get that illness that was terminal again, gifford can do nothing to help them. once they are dead, the soul is returned to gifford, pured by his body, and used again to save another life. there have been reports of people seeing another's past. which is a common issue that gifford himself hasn't figured out yet.

they will be able to act the same as before, but maybe a little different since gifford himself is now "inside" them so to speak. if they get hurt, gifford feels it in is body, depending on the injury inflicted. it will mainly give him a sharp pain up his back, or blurred vision, but nothing much. and if gifford himself is injured, they feel the same, although to a lesser effect, maybe something like a sharp prick of a needle, or black spots in their vision, but fade away almost immediatly. they can call on giffords strength, if they really need it, but most dont see that as being possible. if they call for it, if they figure it out, too much, they will be in pain. each rukami animated, will have a rune placed on gifford's arm (owners may choose 1 rune). and once they die, it becomes a scar on his body, although small. if gifford dies, and the reanimated rukami's are alive, they will pass with him, regardless if they want to or not.

Halja is a little bit of a loner, but not for the usual reasons. She has lost everyone she has loved, not because they left or died, but because they forgot her through no fault of their. You see, whenever she brings someone back from the world of the dead, they forget her and she is forced as far away from them as possible. To be near them causes her physical anguish, and since they do not remember her anyway, there is no reason for her to try at all to regain their love. The first Kami Hel ever brought back was her mate-to-be, a kind handsome kami who's name she hasn't told anyone since. Her love for this kami was greater than her love for anyone else, and she tried to withstand the pain to continue to be with him. But once she realized that he no longer knew her, her heart cracked and she gave up her quest. From that day on, Hel has been a little bit of a lover, for she knows she loves easily and she doesn't wish to go through that heartbreak again.

However, Halja is still kind, and through her heartbreak, has formed a healing aura that has nothing to do with her power. She is able to emotionally understand and help others. She likes to help others, because she finds helping others helps heal her heart a little at a time. When not travelling or helping others, Hel is a dreamer, drifting off into dreams of her love and life before. Her eyes often gloss over with unshed tears as she wanders throughout the lands, she never settled down, preferring not to create ties with nearby Rukami, never staying more than a week, and usually leaving without warning. Throughout her short years she has grown wise, and other Kami can be seen seeking her out for help with a sickness of some sort, or to simply ask her opinion.

As explained above, Halja carries 4 small stones with her always in order to revive a Rukami if the need arises. The four stones are stored in a small silk lined circular chest which lies in the bottom of her leather pack. Also in the chest, in a hidden compartment, are a few mementos of her love, and the rukami she has revived or will revive, usually a lock of hair, or a small personal item. In her pack she carries some essentials, suck as steel & flint for fire, assorted healing herbs, some candles of assorted colors, and an old book with a lock, the key which she carries around her neck. She also wears a small belled anklet, that she swears chimes like fairie laughter.


Power;;

To bring departing souls back to the plane of the living. She can only do so within 7 hours of a kami's death, and then only if she has time to build a sacred circle around the place where the Rukami died. To build a sacred circle, Hel gathers rocks or branches, and places them around the corpse, with four small towers facing north, south, east and west. On these towers she places 4 stone she always carries with her; a stone from a underground cave in the north, a stone from a volcanic field in the south, a stone from the peak of a mountain in the east, and a stone from the bottom of a riverbed in the west. Each of these stones represent the four elements; earth, fire, air, and water. After placing the rocks in their positions, se can call upon the Rukami's spirit and ask it to return to it's body if it so wants, most of the time the spirit chooses to return, but if it chooses to remain in the spirit world, she can either grant it passage, or forcibly return it to it's body. Usually though, Halja lets the spirit make the call.


Effects of her power;;

When Halja uses her power, she becomes very weak and her senses become dulled, but that is the kinder effect. Whenever she revives someone, her memory is wiped from their mind, and seemingly of it's own accord, her body moves her as far away from the one she saved as possible. She cannot approach that kami within a distance of being able to see or smell it, for if she tries she is filled with an overwhelming fear that blackens her vision, fills her ears with static, makes it hard for her to breath, and seems to set her pelt on fire.

Her power is a double edged sword, for she knows if she saves one she loves, she'll never be able to see them again.


When she uses it;;

Halja only uses her power when she cannot bear to see a soul depart, usually a loved one, or a young kami who hasn't yet learned to leave.


How many times will she use her power;;

As little as possible, she doesn't think lives end without reason, and she has no right to change the decision of the higher power, whoever that may be.
