Ebullient and playful:
Kadin is quite the rambunctious and happy person he is. He always loves to play around with other people, and he is always full of energy. You will never have a dull moment in your life when Kadin is around.

Adventurous and athletic:
Kadin has tried many new things that have almost cost him his life, including running with the bulls, bungee jumping from a helicopter, running across his state (charity event), storm chasing, swimming the English Channel (for charity), and hang gliding in Costa Rica. He was only injured twice, but he still wishes to continue trying new things. His next goals are to dive with sharks, dive the deep holes in the Bahamas and to go kayaking.

Courteous and well-mannered:
He Is a very well-mannered Kiamara who has always been taught to treat people with respect and treat them how you want to be treated. Kadin always holds the door open for everyone, and is always very kind to people around him, even the bullied that bullied him in his life. "My mom always told me to treat lot hers how I wanted to be treated, so I listened to her, and I live up to that today."

Immature and childish:
Although Kadin is a very well mannered Kia, he also has a very..childish side to him. He is like a 7 year old in a 25 year olds body. He is always doing stupid stuff, like running with the bulls, skydiving, jumping off a waterfall, and much more. Surprisingly though, Kadin's only been in the hospital twice. He's always being annoying, and continues to be annoying when people ask him to stop. And, of course, he's got an immature mind.

Hello there, Kadin's mother.
"Hello! Please, call me Mrs. Sanders. Now, may I ask why I am here?"

Well, Mrs. Sanders, I was hoping you could tell me about Kadin, like his history.
"Why yes, of course.
Kadin was quite the energetic and loving child when Kadin was younger. He always understood what was going on in life right now, even as a young age. After Kadin was born, my husband left me because I apparently birthed a 'demon child' because not only was Kadin born genderless, but a little horn was growing from the center of the forehead. Overtime. It started to grow, and when Kadin reached the age of 13, the horn stopped growing.
We had a hard life growing up together, but we managed to make it work. I had to work two jobs and Kadin had to work 2 jobs as well. On top of all the stress, Kadin was bullied throughout his school years, but surprisingly, Kadin didn't mind them at all. I always told Kadin to treat people how you want to be treated and treat everyone with respect, and that's what Kadin did. He was always nice to the people who bullied him.
When Kadin was the age of 17, he was, like when he was born, genderless, and he told me that he wanted to be called by male pronouns. Before this, they called him whatever they preferred, and it didn't seem to but him very much.
Kadin's always lived with me until last year. He moved into his very own apartment. His always been a momma's boy, since he was my only child. When he left, I couldn't help but visit him everyday. I could tell he got annoyed with me, so I stopped visiting every day and started visiting every 3 days.
I haven't heard from him in a couple weeks, but I know he's okay."


Was Kadin ever an athletic person?
"Why, yes, he actually was. He played track and field, soccer, cross country, swimming, and basketball. Kadin always had a busy schedule on his hands, but he always seemed to pull it off. When he got to his senior year of high school, he just quit all of his sports so he could provide for me, because at that time, I was very ill."

Thanks. Now, what's your name, how long have you worked here, and what exactly do you do?
My name is Xeno. I work in the Tsavo East National Park with a company called 'Smile to Africa Adventure', and I take tour groups to see the park. I have worked here for five years. We have over 5000 bird and animal species, and as part of a conservation act, I am one of the many team members responsible for keeping track of the populations. I have a tally sheet with species of main concern and -

Sorry to cut you off, I'm short on time. Do you have a favourite animal?
That is okay, I understand! I like the kestrel, which is a bird of prey found here in Kenya. They are one of only two birds who can hover in the air, in the same spot. They are incredible. I also really love the sunbird! So colourful.

Do you have a least favourite animal?
Eh...? As in animal I do not like? I don't like the leopards; the tourists always want to see them but they are so elusive. They always hide in the trees, we never find them. I have a lot of respect for them, they are a very powerful predator.

Have you guys ever had a problem with the lions? I hear they can be vicious.
Sometimes yes, the lions will go after farmer's animals and the farmers try to defend their livestock in ways that are not good for the lions. We have around 675 lions in Tsavo, so you can imagine that is a lot. We have very distinct lions here though, as the males often don't have that classic mane that the tourists want to see. They get confused and ask us why we have all girls. I find it very funny!

When the unholy child was born, the tribe was shocked. Within a week, a single horn had begun growing from their forehead. It was unusual for an infant to grow horns, but it was unheard of to have only one, regardless of age. Many feared the child and avoided the family. Distrust and rumors spread throughout the tribe. People would call the child Shetani, meaning 'devil'.

The family would not speak of the baby's gender, which only spurred on the stories and fear.

They sought out a wise Shaman to help them, for they were desperate. Perhaps she could bring clarity. She looked at the strange infant and smiled. She told them that this child was not to be feared, for it was not a curse but a blessing. She told of the great Eland, a sacred creature found in the south, and in few numbers. Lions would try to kill the Eland, but they protected themselves with their horns. Most of them lost a horn, leaving them with just one. It was a symbol of bravery and spiritual protection, and to see an Eland with a single horn was a sure sign of good luck.

She named the child Nyati, meaning 'unicorn', and told the tribe to treat Nyati as a deity. She explained that they were neither girl nor boy, and that this was further proof of divinity; they would have the strengths of both sexes.

The people were split between those who worshiped the child, and those who didn't believe the Shaman. There were many arguments. Believers would bring the sick to the family's hut to be blessed by the unicorn.

As Nyati grew, so did their horn. Nyati was a patient child, as they would have to sit through long ceremonies and see many people. They learned kindness and gentleness through their many interactions with those who came to them. In Nyati's free time, they would escape the attention by retreating into nature. They took a special interest in the small, unnoticed creatures.



When Nyati reached adolescence, they wanted to leave. They had been referred to as gender-less all their life, and they did not know what it was like to be a woman or a man. Their parents respected the fact that Nyati needed to find themself, but the tribe would not. They couldn't leave the tribe because of the attention on their horn. Something had to be done to deter the tribe's attention, so Nyati put a notch and a hole in their horn with a small chisel - it didn't hurt beyond a small headache. The tribe was shocked and most felt betrayed, but they let Nyati leave.

Nyati sought a life in a nearby town called Voi. They tried identifying as female, and male, but nothing felt right. Unable to connect with either gender, they renamed themselves Xeno, meaning 'other' and remained gender-less.

Dear nobody,
I can't do it. You don't understand. No one does. Being trapped
in someone you aren't happy with? For so long, everyone has
seen me as ordinary. I'm either a male or a female to them, as
far as they're concerned. They will never understand. I can't.
I can't tell them.

Being someone you're not is worse than not being someone,
because when you can't figure yourself out, you can't figure
out anything. Everything is like a town made up entirely of
glass. You make the wrong move and it breaks, and people
change the way they look at you. You've become destructive,
dangerous, different.

I'm trying to cope with the way I am, because when I say i'm
a male, I don't feel the same. Same with female. I just can't
open up to the possibility of everyone knowing the truth. I
know some of them will stay with me, but the others... They'll
be confused. And I'll be lonely. They'll move on, and I'll be
relieved. They'll look back at me and say 'nobody really knew
the guy' and I'll look at myself in the mirror and think 'who
is this guy'? I just can't. I can't cope.

Do you ever look at yourself in the mirror and think for a
moment, just a moment, that you're you? You just look at
yourself and think 'oh wow, I was put here because I have
a fate, too. I was born into this world just like everyone else.'
For once, the world seems so small. So surreal. Everyone
has a place. Sometimes, I feel like the only person who hasn't
touched ground yet. I'm still floating into different possibilities.
Possibilities are endless, kind of like a universe. Possibilities
are creation. They're fate. And as far as possibilities go, I can't
seem to fit in.
