Now, she refuses to have it remove as it is her reminder of a happy and content time, also it's pretty and reminds her of rivers and lakes - which she thinks are just stunning.

To show his thanks the monk tied a beautiful blue ribbon to her mane and Jay has kept it on ever since and considers it her most prized possession

Catechu was the mount of a Lieutenant, due to the Cavalry being a large portion of the forces there were hundreds of horses traveling together at any given time. Due to this her rider tied his daughter's good luck gift to him in her mane in order to both; give his mount luck for when they rode into battle, and to help identify her among the masses of horses in their forces.
