Overview and History
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
The origin of this particular species is unknown. It is guess that it was the iqena who sparked the mythos of unicorns, pegasus, kirin, and hundreds more that have become legend. Thousands of years of speculation and wonder have led to the constant search of this elusive species.
Iqena are commonly friendly towards any creature of any world. Their peaceful souls only adding to the mystery of their vast variations. Even the youngest of iqena are clueless to their biological origin. Some say that they are born from the mind, much like the goddess Athena.

Significance of feather clamp ;; She wears the feather clamp as a reminder, similar to how a human would tie a string around their finger. It stands as a means of never forgetting what happened that day. The day it all changed...
That day, a mere century after her mind-birth(as she chose to call it), Azuriel was doing as any Iquena would do while wandering the realm of the lesser souls; she was staying hidden.Today in p[articular, she had chosen a place full of the colored Rocks, a place mortal humans would later call "The Badlands." The great canyon walls were the color of the evening sky, and looked as if the setting sun had cast itself upon them. Azu decided to stay here not only because of the magnificent majesty of the land, but also because she held herself to be of similar hue, and would therefore hope to blend in a little better.
She had just eaten, what minor sustenance was required for her to function, so she had an abundance of time, with absolutely nothing to do. So she found a cranny in the canyon walls, a cove, one would call it; and lay her head to rest. Her reverie had gone uninterrupted, at least until a flurry of footsteps and then a loud yelp could be heard. As the Iquena pricked her ears, she dismissed it as the sound of the wind, known to make odd noises as it travelled throughout the rocks. She was about to rest once more, flatten the spikes on her head, when they were immediately pricked with another alarming plea. This one sounded weaker, but rang out as much more than the wind. Azuri then wrenched herself out of hiding to investigate the strange cry.
The Iquena took flight, however staying low, as this was a flight for a speed survey, not a ride on the rollercoaster of altitudes and thermal gusts. Ears pricked, she swiftly found the origin of the noise... a pile of fallen rocks. Eager to get back to her nap, Azuriel cocked her hear, prodded the rocks around with a hoof, until she found one that made noise. This made her jump back, and land into a fighting stance, wings flared and spikes erect. She slowly approached the noisy rock once more, and prodded it guardedly. What came out was a small, weak moan, one that didn't sound like it was going to hurt her.
She gently used her hooves to brush away the rock, revealing a creature unknown to her. It looked Bipedal, and lacked hooves, or wings or horns of any sort. It stretched out its forelimbs weakly, letting out a small whine. Call it gut instinct, but Azuri flattened her spikes, and outstretched her curled horns. She winced slightly as the creature grasped onto them, and she gently pulled it out.
The creature, now recognizable as a human, bowed down in a kneeling position, wordlessly at first, but then uttering prayers and thanks and mumbled jibberish. This confused Azuri, who slowly circled the female human, gently poking her with her nose. Eventually the woman stood up, and hugged outstretched arms around Azuriel's neck, while gently stroking her fur.
Suddenly, another rumbling sound could be heard, and Azuriel immediately surrounded the female with her body, and draped her wings over her protectively. When the rumbling stopped, the woman gently parted her wings, and pulled something off of her neck, and plucked two gems from her earrings. She set the gems in the band, and grabbed onto a feather of Azuriel's wing. At first the Iquena pulled back, but then she stopped resisting as the woman slid the gemmed band onto the feather, kissing it gently, before craning her neck up to Azuri, and patting the band, saying: "Kolaya."**
The Iquena bowed her head at the woman, and became startled by a loud cry that came echoing through the rock formations. She did what was instinctual, and hid in the quickest spot available. The woman called back to the noise, and soon a male looking human came into view. He embraced the woman, muttered something inaudible, and held her hand as they walked off. Before leaving the section of the canyon, the woman looked back, made eye contact with Azuriel, and smiled.
And so, the "feather clamp" is still worn by Azuri to remind her that she needn't be afraid or hostile, and reinforced the values of friendship.
**Note: Kolaya is the Sioux word for Friendship(the Sioux were believed to be the inhabitants of the Badlands)
