Hey there, I'm Vintage! This competition has been so...
I don't have words. I can't necessarily say I've discovered myself in this
competition. At first, I had different idea for Kiamara 5, but a couple days
before the end date, something switched inside me, and I completely
rewrote everything, into what you see now. Thank you for this opportunity.

Radiance, a glowing quality of the skin, especially as indicative
of good health or youth; The memories of years before of this
aqua and orange Kiamara are blurred, but she somehow
remembers naming herself Radiance, after the shining
rays of the sun reflecting onto the ocean, seemingly like her fur.

Radiance is a female.

Radiance, outwardly, is reserved and dark. Do not mistake her quietness to be shyness, as she is most certainly not that. But Radiance prefers to keep to herself, especially on controversial topics, such as politics. However, sometimes she cannot keep in a snarky remark, usually sarcastic. When Radiance does speak, many others turn and stare, mesmerized by the fact that she actually speaks. However, they will likely be disappointed, due to those words she speaks being sharp, holding no actual purpose other than to put someone down.
On the outside, Radiance builds walls around her, blocking out potential friends and relationships, the fear of being separated once more confining her in these protective walls. She wants others to perceive her as cold and calculating, which is partially true about her inner self. Radiance wants others to ignore her, to think her ad selfish, to think her as independent, trapped underneath those headphones of music. She especially wants others to not having anything to deal with her, isolating herself from the outside world.
However, on the inside, Radiance is desperate for someone to comfort her, for someone to actually care about her. She is lonely, deprived of any form of feelings with another. Many times a day, she would like to actually talk to the others in her school in a kind manor, actually engaging a conversation with them. But something holds her back, the memories of pain and confusion of being without her siblings. Radiance doesn't want to feel like that again, separated from those she loved.

Radiance knows not of her siblings, and doesn't care to know them. During the early years of clear memory, they had all been together. But all they did was fight and argue, and then they finally separated. Radiance is still relieved that they had dispersed and not stayed together, for disaster of some kind would have surely followed. But after that relief came a swell of pain and loneliness.
If she ever saw them again, and if she recognized them, Radiance wouldn't know what to do. She would expect herself to brush it off, ignore them, and move on. But she would stand there, paralyzed with the fear of doing wrong and making them go away. She convinced herself that this isn't how she feels, but she is lonely without them, like being without a paw.

Vibrant orange eyes flashed upward, glancing sporadically around, summarizing her surroundings. Grays and browns and murky yellows dotted her eyes, imitating the noises of the honking cars, screeches, and daily bustle life. All of the colors of the rainbow, mushed into one, combined to create disgusting shades. Every once in a while, a pop of vivacious color would arrive in her vision, some bright red of a nearby voice, or the army green chop chop chop of a helicopter, but for the most part, it was grey and brown.
Radiance was always revolted by city life, all of the colors mashing together, but she still lived in a city. Probably because there was more things to do, more colors than just boring country life with the same old same old colors every day.
Pushing onto the swinging Starbucks door, Radiance breathed in the sweet scent of rich coffee, the coffee machine's hum bringing out creams and rich deep reds that swirled about her vision. Her favorite colors were always present in Starbucks, and Radiance could never find the exact combinations anywhere else.
She hopped into the line, adjusting her headphones so they weren't slanted, which always bothered her. Because then the headphone wires got caught in her spiky hair, causing an even bigger tangle of strings. The line was quite extensive, but Radiance wasn't going anywhere without her morning coffee to refresh and clear her mind of all the different colors of the city. Surprisingly, Starbucks coffee was the only drink that could push away all those irrelevant colors that still lingered about.
"Hey!" A fresh, chirpy voice bounced out of the background, bringing up pastel oranges and creams. Radiance flashed a glance behind her, noticing a younger Kiamara. She shook out her hair, before staring straight at Radiance, crystal like eyes seemingly looking right through her. "Your hair is pretty cool!" She said happily, without a care in the world. Radiance snorted, and turned her head away, ignoring the girl. People just weren't her thing.
"Hello? I'm talking to you." The girl said once more. Radiance glared at her once more. "I really don't care." She muttered, adding a little poison to her voice. The girl didn't seem to notice, just kept smiling. "So, I'm Petra, and-" Petra was cut off with the light sounds of glasses vibrating together, bringing out silver swirls, and a slight tremor shook the floor. Coffee spilled over the edges, and tables shook ever so lightly. Radiance knew it was a small earthquake, nothing to be afraid of with the reinforced towers of New York City. However, Petra seemed fearful, gripping onto the edge of the counter like it was her lifeline.
Radiance laughed a little on the inside, and scoffed on the outside, shaking her head with a smirk at Petra.
Cracking noises behind her alerted the vibrant Kiamara, and light brown and grey streaked stripes crossed her vision. Before she knew what was happening, Radiance felt a strong shove from her left, pushing her down to the floor. "What the actual-" She was cut off when she saw one of the columns, the one right behind her, fall down and crumble into pieces. Petra stood over Radiance, smiling, and held out a hand.
"Did you just save me?" Radiance asked, accusation tinging her voice. Petra nodded, a genuine smile lighting up the areas around her. "But why?" Radiance asked, curious about why someone she didn't know who help her like that.
"Because I didn't want to see you get crushed, I cared about you." Petra said, as though it was obvious.
Radiance sat there, contemplating what Petra had said. Someone she had just met, and wasn't even kind to, cared about her... But why?

Radiance has synesthesia; "a rare neurological condition in which two or more of the senses entwine. " Synesthesia is a condition in which sounds, feelings, and tastes have colors. Each letter brings up a different translucent color, or colors. Words bring up those combinations of colors, sounds do as well. To Radiance (as each synesthesian has different interpretations of these colors), the color of a slamming door is a deep brown, with tinges of crimson. When Radiance tells others about her condition, they act like she's a pity case, as though synesthesia is a burden. However, she believes it's the beautiful thing about her, the most radiant thing about her. Radiance couldn't live in a world without her colors, it would be dark and desolate, and she would no longer be unique.
Synesthesia, however beautiful and alluring, can sometimes be difficult to work with. Foreign languages, for example, are particularly hard for Radiance to grasp. The word 'morning' in the English language, her native tongue, is a bright creamy white (the G makes that color) with stripes of soft pink (which the M makes). However, the Spanish word for 'morning' is 'mañana,' which is a red and yellow color because of the As and Ns. Math was another hard subject for Radiance, adding a blue 2 and an orange 8 but getting a white 10 confused her.
Despite some challenging features of synesthesia, Radiance would never give it up.
