GoS #274 - Sooty Dunalino

Postby NeriHyuga » Sun Jul 27, 2014 4:56 am

Egg state: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2369445

This little fellow hatched quick, but i couldn't give him up to adoption till now, because he helped me to take care on the ill mare. He is a very funny one and tryed to entertain her and cheer her up when i couldn't be at her side. He even listened to the fablestorys too, but he was more into old nothern history and because of this he often stealed my books and readed some celtic tales, but he was interested in vikinger, huns and irish storys as well as the noth mythology too.
With this little guy on your side, bordemon will be a foreign word xD i would be happy if i could see him and the mare around together, but that is up to you =)

If you want to get him as your friend, it is very easy, just tell him a little nothern story. if he likes your storystyle, then he will be yours forever ^^

Story: Fenrir is a gigantic and terrible monster in the shape of a wolf. He is the eldest child of Loki and the giantess Angrboda. The gods learned of a prophecy which stated that the wolf and his family would one day be responsible for the destruction of the world. They caught the wolf and locked him in a cage. Only the god of war, Tyr, dared to feed and take care of the wolf.
When he was still a pup they had nothing to fear, but when the gods saw one day how he had grown, they decided to render him harmless. However, none of the gods had enough courage to face the gigantic wolf. Instead, they tried to trick him. They said the wolf was weak and could never break free when he was chained. Fenrir accepted the challenge and let the gods chain him. Unfortunately, he was so immensely strong that he managed to break the strongest fetters as if they were cobwebs.

After that, the gods saw only one alternative left: a magic chain. They ordered the dwarves to make something so strong that it could hold the wolf. The result was a soft, thin ribbon: Gleipnir. It was incredibly strong, despite what its size and appearance might suggest. The ribbon was fashioned of six strange elements: the footstep of a cat; the roots of a mountain; a woman's beard; the breath of fishes; the sinews of a bear; and a bird's spittle.

The gods tried to trick the wolf again, only this time Fenrir was less eager to show his strength. He saw how thin the chain was, and said that was no pride in breaking such a weak chain. Eventually, though, he agreed, thinking that otherwise his strength and courage would be doubted. Suspecting treachery however, he in turn asked the gods for a token of good will: one of them had to put a hand between his jaws. The gods were not overly eager to do this, knowing what they could expect. Finally, only Tyr agreed, and the gods chained the wolf with Gleipnir. No matter how hard Fenrir struggled, he could not break free from this thin ribbon. In revenge, he bit off Tyr's hand.

Being very pleased with themselves, the gods carried Fenrir off and chained him to a rock (called Gioll) a mile down into the earth. They put a sword between his jaws to prevent him from biting. On the day of Ragnarok, Fenrir will break his chains and join the giants in their battle against the gods. He will seek out Odin and devour him. Vidar, Odin's son, will avenge his father by killing the wolf.

Owner: SerenWish
Name: Ahearn (Celtic name meaning "lord of horses")
Gender: Stallion
Age: 1 1/2 years
Story: Ahearn softly hummed, watching a few young guardian colts and fillies duck through the billowing waves, as he lay on a bluff, in the shallow blue waters. The warmer waters of the south were new to him- he was so used to the colder, darker waters of the north, his home. His home of craggy white bluffs and rolling breakers among navy seas. Green coasts and gray skies, of isle shores. He closed his silvery green eyes and blew a few bubbles, crossing his long golden legs as he thought of a story from his youth.
He had been plagued by strange dreams- they were neither comforting nor frightening, just bizarre and fantastical. Even though they were not bad, they were like harriers at his heels, pulling on his fins and demanding his attention every night. Confused and unsure, he finally spoke to someone about it, asking where the dreams could come from. His foster-dam, Danu,a fellow storyteller, merely answered that "all dreams are stories of the branded past or the hidden future, and are gifts from Epona."
Ahearn had heard of Epona, the goddess of the horses of the land. She was a kind soul, though was not to be taken lightly. She had a soft spot for young animals, equines, and young humans. He was confused as to why such a goddess would send these to him. What had he done to garner attention? He was a simple colt, with nothing special about him. His dreams, usually depicting three seabirds diving at him from the skies above while he floated just beneath the surface, took on a new, added addition- a white mare who swam through the sky, never entering the water with him, merely watching him through the waves, distorting his view. In his dreams, he began to chase the mare of the clouds, but he could never break into the air in his dreams, and she never ventured into his realm. He spent a full moon's cycle chasing her in his dreams, until the last night, the night of a full moon. He finally lifted his head above the water in the dream that night, and called out her name- "Epona", he believed. And he was rewarded with only a flick of a tail, and the dropping of a pearl- the same pearl he now wore clasped in his neckpiece. Of course, the pearl had been in his dream, and his real-world pearl had been given to him otherwise... but he felt a connection with the deity still. She never approached him in the physical world, but part of him still felt that she may one day swim out from his dreams and into his life- though he never saw her in his dreams again.
Opening his eyes once again, the stallion paused to look up at the night. He was still young, but the dreams felt eons ago. He was here, in warm waters, letting his body fully heal in the waters of his species. But sometimes he still felt the call of land and the land goddess who took the form of an equine calling to him. He paused, looking up at the silvery light of the rising moon through the distortion of pale blue waves, silently wishing for a sign. A brief white blur above the water was his only reply.

(This story is based off the myths of Epona, the Celtic goddess of horses and equines. Epona was credited with sending steeds to carry dreams to men and women- which is a possibility for why bad dreams are called "night mares". So, this story is created purely by me, but is based on myths and legends of Northern Celtic mythology!)

(Also eeeee my baby he turned out SO handsome!!)

Story:

Where the ambers come from…*

It is said that Freya was the most beautiful and most coveted goddess of the north. She rose desire in many poor hearts. One of this lost souls was Odr. You might know him as Odin. As many others before him he felt in love with the goddess and he tried to gain her heart.

First he came to her with treasures. Shining gold, beautiful pearls and rare jewels. But Freya even didn’t recognize them. She passed by as if Odr and the treasures simply didn’t exist. Hurt and disappointed Odr went away.

But he didn’t want to give up. Maybe the beautiful goddess was just searching for a strong and brave companion. Therefore he went to the deepest and darkest woods. When he returned he presented the coat of a huge beast from ancient times. Freya wasn’t impressed. She just walked over the coat and ignored Odr again.

Time passed by but Odr wasn’t able to forget Freya. He decided to court the goddess a third and last time. But it was a desperate bid. He kneeled down in front of her and spoke:
“Beloved goddess I have a last gift for you. It’s my heart. I must admit it’s not much worth after you broke it but it’s all I can give.”
When Freya heart his word a deep warmth filled her heart. She smiled and kneeled down, too. “There is no other gift which could more valuable”, she whispered.

Not long after that they got married.
Years passed by and their love rose every single day.

But one day Odr had to leave. He went away to gain wisdom and knowledge. Freya was left alone. She felt lost and it was like her heart stopped beating. At night she sat on her window and cried bitter tears. When her tears fell down they touched the earth and turned into golden ambers. A river took them far away to Odr and reminded him to return to his beloved wife. He went home as fast as possible.

Freyas tears remained in the river and were taken through the whole north. That is the reason why you can sometimes spot a golden gleam in the northern rivers.

* As I found no sources how Odr courted Freya or what happened after she cried for him, this story is partly taken from the northern mythology and partly conceived by me.
