Teobaldo Leonheart
What's Behind A Name? ;;
You can tell quite a bit about Teo just based solely upon his name. Which is to say you can tell he’s a filthy liar, because if you asked his name it’d be different depending upon the town. Teobaldo Leonheart. Teobaldo is his brithname, and Leonheart is a last name made up for him and the group of orphans he grew up with, to bind them as a family though they weren’t related by blood. Though these days he hardly ever uses his name, instead using aliases of varying nature. He allows those close to him to call him Teo, though only in private- and doesn't even tell those close to him his real name.

Personality ;;
Teo is a con artist and tells lies like he breathes air. Teo’s a spot on liar, and because of his talent and experience he can always tell when others are lying to him. He can be quoted as saying “I need money to live” and this is very true. Teo is in constant need of money, as he’s always moving towns and changing his appearance. He wears wigs, various clothing and other such guises to mask his true physique and goes by different names, sometimes the names of others and sometimes completely fabricated personas. The only thing that stays consistent about his appearance is his base design and the fact that his wrists and paws are always covered. Typically with gloves or bandages, occasionally bracelets, though pure and simple they’re never exposed.
Teo’s personality can also be described as rather quirky. He can occasionally be found saying that things are ‘lies’ or ‘made of lies’, though mostly for ironic purposes. Like, ‘those potatoes are lies’ as if to say they’re instant potatoes and not truly potatoes. He generally dislikes figures of speech and the like, as he interprets them as untrue. Oddly enough he has an adoration for certain things in his arsenal of disguises, and prefers streaked styles for his wigs (quad) or hair (antrho) as well as gloves (though he can’t always wear them, for the sake of hiding his identity there are usually few to no similarities between disguises unless there’s a large gap of time between them). Another of his more quirky aspects is the habit to pursue mystery. Wherever Teo goes he seems to unintentionally stir up trouble. He’s almost constantly in trouble with the authorities, though generally only for minor offenses such as stealing or general disrespect for the authorities. He’s on a first name basis with many of them and knows quite a fair share about the Captain and his second in command.
By nature Teo is very cold and grouchy, he typically distances himself from others and prefers to keep to himself in turn. He’s a people pleaser, but by no definition social butterfly. While he can act like others almost seamlessly, his true grumpy and pessimistic persona is typically masked. He’s generally only acting in his own character when he’s alone, and tries to stay away from acts that’re too close to his true attitude.
Because of his constant change of name and scenery, Teo doesn’t have many friends or connections. Generally he’s a loner regardless, and most who encounter him a second time wouldn’t even know because of his constantly changing appearance and name. He tries to mask his scent as well, though sometimes others can pick it out, though most of the time they think nothing of it. After all Teo doesn’t make many deep emotional investments in others, so they wouldn’t bother searching for him.
Along the lines of connections, Teo has absolutely no remaining family aside from a couple of the orphans he grew up with. Teo’s parents abandoned him when he wasn’t even seven years old. He was thrown harshly into the world, and thus quickly relinquished any compassion he once held for them. When he was nine the orphans were split up by a calamity in the town they had taken residence in. There was a lot of gang activity around those areas, and unintentionally the orphans ended up splitting paths. The youngest and most fragile died, while the other four- three boys and a girl including Teo- lived to tell tale.
Another way to describe him is constantly running. The reason he’s always fleeing is because of his ties with a gang. The Leonhearts had stolen a lot of goods from a nearby gang, who’s insignia is a red spider, usually on the hand or wrist. Teo went and signed up for the gang, who had earlier threatened to take out the Leonheart orphans once and for all. He joined to pay off the debt, and once he officially joined, he sold one of his kidneys (leaving behind a stitched scar on his right side) to get the money his family would need to live without him. Once he ended up deep enough in the gang’s activity they wouldn’t simply let him out- so one day he saw his chance, and he ran. In truth Teo may seem like a brave and heroic guy, constantly investigating crimes and sorting through the lies people bury themselves in, however he’s really just a coward, constantly running from his own past and his own problems. Because of his involvement with the gang, he was branded with their insignia on his left wrist, which he’s constantly covering with gloves or bandages. This doesn’t show on his makoatl reference because it would logically be covered with fur, though even in his quad form he covers his wrists. In human form this mark would be much more obvious, thus the reason to cover it.
He has a dry sense of humor, and takes things very literally most of the time. He finds humor in very few things, and even when things do amuse him seldom does he laugh or smile at them. It’s a rare occurrence if you are graced with one of his rare and elusive grins, the ones that aren’t fake, at least. Typically he’ll have a more morbid sense of humor than most, or in general darker humor.
He also has a scar on his right cheek, though he refuses to explain what it’s from or where it came from. He insists it’s nothing that warrants discussion, though whatever the cause it probably came from his involvement with the gang- as he didn’t have it during his time with the Leonhearts.
Teo can also be quoted as saying, “I only like three things on this earth, money, women and booze”, all of which are completely true. Teo is easily motivated for money, while he won’t do anything you’d think to specify he has done some reckless things to get the cash he needs. Money at this point is much more of a need for Teo than a want, as he’s in constant need of money to keep moving and changing his appearance. Women are of course unessential, and while Teo has a fine eye for pretty women he doesn’t generally approach them with emotional commitment in mind. If he does flirt, it’s more to keep up his façade then anything else. Teo’s also had small affection for members of the same sex, though they’re only small crushes and he’s never acted on them. Alcohol is one thing that stays consistent about Teo. He generally enjoys a good drink here and there, after all he’s got enough troubles to drink away as it is.
Teo’s also constantly sticking his nose where it doesn’t belong. I mentioned before that Teo is almost always around when trouble’s about- and it’s not far from the truth. It seems wherever Teo goes, trouble follows him there- with the police force in tow. Teo generally uses his lying prowess to assist in investigations and get to the bottom of whatever’s plaguing him. He’s not necessarily happy to help, though he enjoys proving two things to the police. One, that he’s not as bad as they think he is. And the second being that he can do their job better than they can. Teo has an over-competitive nature, though he’s pretty good at restraining himself he does take pride in solving cases before the police can get their bearings. Commonly they’ll end up working together, though Teo isn’t a very good team player he tends to get along decently with them. The captain and second in command know his name, and are among the few Teo talks honestly around (most of the time) and shows his grouchy and cynical side to. Teo can commonly come across as apathetic when he’s talking frankly, though the pair of them know him better than to make assumptions when he’s concerned.
Teobaldo, being a self-respecting investigator and conman is constantly taking notes. In fact he’s almost always carrying either something to write on, or a notepad to take notes with. Occasionally he’ll forget it, though he’d never be caught dead without something to write things down on and a pencil to record his observations. Some think he writes too much, though he’s found from experience you can never have too many documents.
Overall Teo is a mysterious loner of an individual, accompanied only by the few who can tolerate his facade of personas and aura if mystery. He's standoffish, rude and in general a filthy liar. He investigates crime wherever he goes, because it seems to follow after him- and can be swayed easily for the sake of money. He cares nothing about justice, only about proving others wrong or proving himself superior. Teo may sound like a huge jerk, but just let it be known that he has his reasons.
