Rukami (Gulo Stantes) are a newly discovered species of bipedal mammals. Though they resemble wolves, they are actually more closely related to the mustelid family, which includes wolverines, otters, and badgers to name a few. Through natural selection, these rare animals evolved to incredible sizes and developed sentient brains along with opposable thumbs.
And 50! This Rukami is not so much magical as he/she has a magical companion.... a dragon, this dragon is capable of breathing small amounts of fire and will not grow larger than it is currently.

PERSONALITY¤ LOUD ¤ SMART ¤
¤ BRASH ¤ COLLECTER ¤
¤ UNFORGIVING ¤
In personality, Imogen is often
compared to a stereotypical
dragon. She's loud, brash, and
somewhat wise, holds grudges
easily and has a collection of
seemingly pointless trinkets.
If Rukami had volume dials,
Imogen's would be broken. It
seems that the phrase 'indoor
voice' has no meaning to her,
as she always acts and speaks in
a loud manner. The problem is,
she doesn't realise she's doing it,
and tones it down slightly when
asked, but the level is always
quick to rise again.
General knowledge is one of
Imogen's strongest points. You
can ask her just about anything
and she'll be able to give you a
good answer. While she isn't
egotistic, she likes to think that
having a greater intelligence
than others puts oneself above
them. She often rolls her eyes at
unintelligible comments and
remarks, claiming she'd never
say something like that.
Usually, Imogen can come across
as being quite brash, acting over-
confidently and as though she
rules over all other Rukami. She
walks around more commonly
offering glares than conversations,
and is always loud and confident.
As a teen, this made her quite
popular, but since becoming an
adult, it's caused nothing but
trouble.
Imogen has a collection of items
which look like a completely
random group. To Imogen,
however, they each hold some
meaning and have a large
sentimental value. Some, like
jewellery, she keeps around her
wrist, on pieces of string if they
don't have a clasp. Others, she
stores in 'caves' - little hidden
compartments around her hut.
She is extremely protective over
her collection, and isn't afraid to
fight someone who gets too
close.
Generally, Imogen is relatively
sweet - once you get past the
tough facade - but if you hurt her
you will most likely never gain
her forgiveness. She never
forgets a Rukami who she feels
has betrayed her, and even if, to
Kaleth's dismay, she rarely seeks
revenge, she can hold a grudge
for an eternity, and occasionally
spreads rumors if what they've
done is particularly bad.━━━¤━━━
PERSONALITY¤ GRUMPY ¤ QUIET ¤
¤ OVER - PROTECTIVE ¤
¤ HUNGRY ¤ ANTISOCIAL ¤
Unusually quiet and particularly
grumpy, Kaleth tries his hardest
to be intimidating, even if, with
his size, it doesn't always go to
plan.
Kaleth seems to be perpetually
grumpy, always muttering about
stupidity and mentally cursing
Rukami. He rarely smiles or
jokes, except around Imogen and
Imogen alone. He growls at
almost anyone, and continually
tells Imogen to stay away from
them or her, even if she
doesn't always listen.
If you didn't know Kaleth, you'd
think he were mute. He never
speaks to someone he doesn't
know and even in a select group
rarely speaks. The only one he
talks freely to is Imogen, and
even then usually crawls up to
her ear to whisper his words.
Although he doesn't speak much,
what Kaleth does say is usually
smart, useful or cursing someone
to hell.
As far as Kaleth is concerned,
Imogen is his and he must protect
her at all costs. If he feels like
someone is a threat to Imogen, he
becomes very, very angry, growling
for all his worth. Imogen, while she
thinks it's sweet, always tells him
that he doesn't need to do that and
that she can look after herself, but,
like a protective father, he refuses
to listen and is determined that
he will always look after her.
Kaleth is always hungry. Even at
his size, he eats almost as much
as Imogen, but seemingly never puts
on any weight. Even with the amount
he eats, Kaleth is always complaining
that he's hungry. No matter how
much he's fed, the complaints go on.
Because Imogen hasn't known any
dragons except Kaleth, she has to
guess at what he eats, how often
and how much, as it is difficult for
him to hunt. Strangely, Kaleth
himself doesn't know what he should
eat, so usually it's just guessing. He
is partial to venison, though.
Antisocial is probably one word
which could sum up Kaleth's
personality. If he hadn't have met
Imogen in the way he did, he would
most likely be currently living alone,
rarely contacting the world beyond
his mind. He will not speak to
someone he doesn't know,
occasionally speaking via Imogen,
telling her something to say to
someone. He worries that Imogen
will replace him with a stranger.━━━¤━━━
RELATIONSHIP
HOW'S THE PET?:
"Okay, first off,
Kaleth is no 'pet'.
He is my
companion, and
just because I
spend time with
him, it doesn't
mean that I own
him. He isn't
stupid, he could
leave if he
wanted.
No, Kaleth's my
best friend. He
and I go
everywhere
together - no,
we're not in a
relationship -
and that's just how
we like it. Even
if he can be a
little... Grumpy,
when you first
meet him, he is
nice and the kind
of person who you
like spending time
with. But you can
never ask him about
his size. He's pretty
sensitive in that
area. I love my
Kaleth, and I'm sure
he loves me."━━━¤━━━
RELATIONSHIP
WHY THAT GIRL?:
"Alright, spit it
out, I know what
you expect. You
think I'm Imogen's
tame little pet
and that I follow
her nicely on a
leash because I'm
a good little
dragon. Well,
have I got news
for you? I'm
nobody's pet,
and I never will
be. Imogen is
like a sister to
me and I will
quite happily
go with her to
wherever she
May be going,
but of my own
free will, not
because she owns
me. Imogen can
seem pretty... Brash,
at times, but when
you get to know her
is the kindest,
sweetest Rukami
who ever lived and
I love her like family.
I trust Imogen and I
love spending time
with her."
Above: How I imagine a human version of Imogen.━━━¤━━━
OTHER
LOOKING FOR LOVE:
Imogen is
currently
searching for her
special
somebody. She
mentions this
often, in hope
that a Prince
Charming will
hear her and
sweep her off her
paws. While she
openly searches,
however, Kaleth
openly opposes
the idea, hating
the thought of
having to share
her with a
different male.
SLEEPING ISSUES:
Imogen can't
sleep. It doesn't
matter what she
tries, sleep just
will not come.
For this reason,
she often walks at
night until her
legs give out and
she has to sleep.
Most believe that
she sleepwalks,
however, because
she rarely speaks
of it.━━━¤━━━
OTHER
FIRE: The flames
which Kaleth
breathes are
purple. This is
due to high
levels of
potassium
in his body.
Breathing fire
is quite an
unpleasant
experience for
Kaleth, and
has the same
effects on him
as smoking
would. To
avoid being
injured, he
tries to avoid
breathing fire.
CLINGY:
Kaleth cannot fly.
This is due to an
injury to his left
wing during
childhood. While
it's healed, it
isn't strong
enough to allow
flight. For this
reason, he travels
on Imogen's back,
or curled around
one of her paws.
Imogen thinks it's
adorable.
Kaleth: The fire at heartWHERE TWO TALES OVERLAP
This section swaps between the points of view of Imogen and Kaleth. Imogen's point of view has the first word of the section and any of her speech written in purple and Kaleth's in red.
"ALRIGHT you lot, scram already, before I have to force you." I ordered the small crowd of young Rukami, a slightly sinister tone to my voice which didn't quite match the minute gleam of mischief in my eyes. I let out a small growl as I finished the sentence, the corner of my mouth twitching upwards slightly as the group sheepishly obeyed. Oh, how fun it was to control the younger Rukami. Now, I could get my hands on whatever was so interesting. They'd been murmuring about how weird it was, and daring each other to touch it. It wouldn't be boring, that's for sure.
I couldn't help but dislike those stupid Rukami. So what if I fell? It doesn't give them the right to crowd me and prod me. They have no respect for others. But the crowd had just dissolved. They wouldn't do that unless something worse was coming. It could be an adult Rukami. After all, I'm sure the group was made up of youngsters. But what if it wasn't a larger Rukami? It could've be something worse... Whatever it was, I'm sure I heard a growl.
Suddenly, there was a dark-furred Rukami with shocking highlights of purple and brilliant white padding towards me on all fours, nose close to the ground.
WHAT was that thing? It looked like a black smudge on the floor, but no, the shape was too defined to be just a smudge. I stopped where I was, regarding it, before inching closer. It looked... Like some sort of strange, black lizard, but it had two blood red - wait, were those wings? Without warning, it moved, using its wings to help push itself onto all fours. It watched me for a moment, bright amber eyes staring right into mine. I suddenly realised I was still walking, and stopped abruptly, straight in front of the creature. It transferred its weight to its back legs, standing as though it were a biped, it's snout to mine. I decided to ask it a question. After all, it looks kind of intelligent.
"What are you?"
IT had come for me. And so rudely spoken to me, without even a formal introduction. I snorted and continued to glare, hoping to stare it out, but it was persistent.
"C'mon, I won't hurt you. What kind of a... Thing, are you?" It said, and I could only guess it was female from the sound of the voice. An irritated female at that. I sighed and gave in.
"I prefer to be regarded as a 'he', not an 'it', thank you very much." I told her, and she looked at me slightly open mouthed for a moment, before continuing. She flung out a claw, which I was sure she was going to use to slice me in half. I shivered slightly at the thought, barely catching her words.
"Imogen. And you are?"
THE poor creature looked terrified. I almost laughed at its expression. I told it - him - my name and I didn't expect a reply, at first. Soon enough, however, he took my claw in one of his tiny paws.
"Kaleth. Dragon." He told me. I took in all his features. Yes, now that I think of it, he does look like a creature of legend. But... A little on the small side.
"I didn't know dragons were real." I muttered quietly to myself, before addressing Kaleth again. "Are all dragons that small?"
"ACTUALLY, I'm quite large for my species, the Greater Tracker Sub-Basilisk, but, of course, you wouldn't know that." I told her, agitated by this time. It was never 'How are you?', no, it's always 'Why are you so small?' or 'Can you breathe fire?'. She retorted almost instantly.
"Well I'm sorry, Sir, but your kind, as far as I'm concerned, hasn't existed and never will." her eyes suddenly softened, taking another glance over my form.
"Are Greater Tracker Sub-Basilisks supposed to be... So thin? Are you hungry?" she asked. In reality, I was weak with hunger, but I wouldn't tell that to her.
"I guess I haven't eaten in a while... So yes, a little."
HE was lying, I could tell. There's no way you're supposed to be able to make out a dragon's ribcage, no matter how slim the species is. I didn't mention it, though, I only proceeded to ask him questions.
"So, what do Greater Tracker Sub-Basilisks eat?"
He looked slightly confused for a moment, hesitating before stammering a slow train of words.
"Well... The thing is... You see... I'm not... I don't really know."
I almost laughed. A dragon who doesn't know what he eats? Couldn't have been much help while he was hunting.
"Well, what do you like, then?"
He looked blankly into nowhere for a short while before answering me.
"I can't remember."
SAYING those words humiliated me. If I lied, though... Well, I wouldn't have been able to come up with a believable lie so quickly. I could barely remember my name. She was quick to ask another question.
"How come?"
I sighed and answered her.
"I was flying... And I must have fallen, because the next thing I remember is waking up on the floor, with a torn wing. It's healed, but I can't fly any more. I can't remember how to get back home... I don't remember very much."
I must've sounded pathetic, because Imogen looked at me sympathetically for a short while before speaking again.
"Well, let's go find you some things to eat."
I nod my head and she motions for me to follow her. I obey.
KALETH had seemed to be struggling to keep up with me, even after only the first few steps. I tried slowing my pace, but it was clear that dragons were meant to fly. I stopped after a few more steps to wait for him to catch up.
"Climb on."
I said, holding out my paw as he reached me. He hesitated but climbed onto my paw, making his way up until he was on my back. After waiting a moment to make sure he had time to find a comfortable position, I set off again, keeping my pace slow so as not to shake him off.
IMOGEN'S fur was surprisingly thick and I nestled there quite comfortably as she walked. Nobody in my memory had ever been so kind to me.
Eventually, we reached a large clearing with a stream running through it. The sunlight which filtered through the dense canopy cast dancing shapes upon the grass and water, adding to the effects of beauty in the area. I slid clumsily from her back and padded across the grass to watch Imogen. She placed a claw over her mouth, signalling for me to be quiet. I didn't need to be told twice.
She stood at the water's edge for a while before pulling a fish from the liquid in one quick, fluid movement. She bit down before dropping the sorry creature before me.
"Ever tried fish?"
"Not recently." I replied, which was my code for 'Probably, but I can't remember'. She nodded towards the fish and I dug in.
HE ate ravenously, and I couldn't help but think that he liked it. He promptly finished the entire fish, surprising me at his appetite, and looked up at me with an oddly shy expression.
"Could I... Would you mind if... May I stay with you for a while?" he stuttered, and I grinned and held out my paw.
"Sure thing." I replied and, looking relieved, Kaleth took my paw as best he could in both of his, our companionship begun.
