Hi everybody my name is Grace ^u^ and I love celebrating the Japanese culture. (That is why her name is in Japanese) I had attended a Japanese class for a year and soon I was able to fan dance, a beautiful art I still very much appreciate today.

My Story:

It was talent show auditions and I was in my silk Kimono along with my Cherry Blossom fan. I was the last person to audition and I had made it into the top 10, unfortunately my friend never showed up to the practices or the audition so I was doing the talent show alone. I was last to perform however that made me more nervous. I took a deep breath I had done a dance similar to this one I spent forever practicing that dance, and everything had gone according to plan, I sighed and exited the stage leaving the applause of the crowd behind me.

I absolutely loved doing this dance and I felt happy doing it I wish luck to everyone else and congratulations to the winner!

My heart pounded in my chest as I waited backstage. I heard the girl in front of me whisper that we were about to enter. The lights turned green, signaling our entry. I pushed my hair behind my ear and straightened my flower behind my ear. I followed the girl in front of me out, along with three other dancers. I was waving my hands in unison with the other dancers. I felt my heart pound again as I tried to think of the next move. I spun slowly doing a dance that was almost like a hula, my hands continued to wave. Every dancer, including me, hit the floor and came back up, moving kind of like a snake.

"We 'n de ya yo!
I am of the great spirit, ho!
We 'n de ya yo!
I am of the great spirit ho!" Our group chanted together as we spun again. As the first dancer did her back hand spring I waited for the time when, I would have to do mine. Soon the girl next to me flipped back. I bent my knees and sprung, letting my hands hit the floor then letting my feet follow. We backed up to the rhythm of the song, and then forward. We again chanted the words to the song, letting our voices hit the still air.

Finally after about three more minutes of dancing, the first girl slowly spun off, leaving three girls counting me on stage. Next we did front hand springs together. We took four steps back using hand motions to smoothen the rough movement. The first girl and I did cartwheels back, while the middle girl went forward. The first girl exited after, leaving just me and the other dancer left on stage. We both began to chant, spinning around each other, not turning once. We finally stopped chanting then both cartwheeled back then directly after front hand springed forward. She finally left me alone on stage. The part I've been dreading.

My solo was really tough. It involved a front and back flip. And lots of loud singing. As I exited the entire crowd filled the quiet air. I felt a renewed excitement build inside me as high fives were handed to me by the other dancers, congratulations were tossed into the air as the crowd started to die down from the show.

Remember how I said the leopard gecko is Sandy's favorite animal? Well he also has one
as a companion. He named his gecko Shelby. Sandy found Shelby one day while skateboarding
down a sidewalk and saw the little critter crawling around in the grass. At the time, the gecko
was missing it's tail. At first, Sandy thought it was normal. He picked up the little creature
and put her on the front end of his skateboard, taking the gecko home. Overtime, Shelby's
tail started to grow back and thus Sandy researched and learned more and more about
leopard geckos. Now-a-days, Sandy brings Shelby with him everywhere he goes, either carrying
her on his back or riding along on the skateboard.
