Extra: Moriarty was already proving to be quite the handful when we got him back to Manteca Creek. We began wondering if he knew the character he was named after. He was extremely riled up in the trailer, so much that putting him in a stall wasn't going to be an option. We backed the trailer up to the gate of stallion's paddock, and released him into the wide open space to gallop around to his heart's content and hopefully calm down a little. He made a beeline straight for the fence blocking him from the mare's pasture where some of our newer mares Bonnie, Clue, and Hecate were grazing. Oh he flaunted and he flaunted, but those three have very dynamic personalities themselves and didn't even give him the time of day. He was visibly upset, but still he wasn't quite finished. That's when one of the riders came along, leading Sherlock down the path. Now, Sherlock's not really known for being aggressive, even towards other stallions, but we could see his eyes catch alight at the sight of Moriarty, who came charging up to the pasture fence, ears perked forward in excitement. For what, we didn't want to find out. Sherlock's rider just wasn't strong enough to handle the burly stallion, and he broke away from her and trotted up to the pasture fence, ears pinned against his skull. Moriarty trotted a slower up to the fence, and before we could do anything the two were right there in each other's faces...But they were calm. Both still looked pretty ticked, but they were completely quiet. We don't know what kind of stand off this was, but eventually Moriarty backed down, sulking off to the other end of the pasture. Sherlock willingly allowed himself to be lead away, but there was an extra energy in his gait. Needless to say, we got Moriarty into the barn and in a stall with ease.
