Why She is Blind: Sabana was a graceful creature, she climbed the terrain effortlessly to the point that it could rival any creature within the land. It however came at a cost in price of wanting a new challenge, she liked to go higher, further so that if she were ever to jump off she would fly like an eagle but she knew better than to even try. Her legs would never handle the impact, her joy in life would end instantly if she had even dreamt of doing it. No, instead she spent her time climbing the terrain, smelling anything new, anything old, enjoyed the feeling of the wind rushing through her mane, her tail her greatest companion.
It was one normal day that would turn into tragedy when she did what she always did, climbed and explored until she found an old abandoned farm or home of some sort that had long since been lost to however owned it, it was derelict, its wood had rotted to the point that even Sabana could tell it was unsafe to enter. The old fence ruined and worthless on the floor around it, an old fence of barbed wire that had long since rusted.
It was bad enough that she had left her herd to explore again, most likely be scoffed at for it but it was an urge she could never resist, she was young, willful and full of energy.
She crossed the fence, hooves grazing over the barbed wire as she crossed toward the house, she stayed quiet, bright brown eyes that almost shone like amber in the daylight stayed focused, her eyes flicking this way and that as she listened for any sound and when she found none she continued to advance. She sniffed around the home, curious, poking anything that intrigued her in the slightest but when she reached a a hole in the wall she never expected something to move, something to swipe at her and she never thought she could move as clumsily as she had as she made a startled noise, scrambled back and ran, she ran over the barbwire but being mindless of where her hooves landed it was the perfect chance for misfortune. The rusted barbwire caught her leg, tripped her up and in one sudden blur of the world all she felt was pain in her eye that spread through her head and through her body as panic truly took hold. She wasn't aware of how she got out, pulled and yanked most likely at the wire before fleeing in agony back to where she knew was safe, away from the metal snake that had ensnared thanks to the help of its friend in the dark.
Later when she would calm down she would realize that what had taken her eye out was the barbwire but also a sharp rock that had been in the worst place at the time. That adrenaline had been the only thing that had saved her from that creature in the dark. It was a lesson well learnt, she'd be cautious, even more so from now on but she would still continue to climb and explore but every step would be careful until she felt that should could be graceful again with only one eye to use.
