(It's Japanese for High-pitched, but I chose it because it sounds cool, not because of what it means. Pronunciation: Con da ky)Gender ;;MaleTalent ;;Making things with moonstones, but mainly jewelry. Personality ;; MMKandakai is mean, has a very bad temper and he doesn't like strangers, but once you get to know him he's actually pretty nice and has a calm side to him. He hates it when people don't appreciate the jewelry he makes, especially when he's feeling generous and gives it to them; after all, being dragon-like he is kind of greedy and has trouble with being generous. On the inside he really is generous, just not the most generous foxerfly in the world. He loves using his fire for anything, especially for heating metal for jewelry and making pretty lights in the sky, and surprisingly, he likes to cool off in water sometimes. Strange though it is; he finds it quite relaxing.Why does he hoard moonstones? ;;
MMIt all started out because he thought they looked awesome, but after he had been collecting for a while he though that if he was going to hoard something he ought to at least have a use for it. So Kandakai started looking for something to do with them, but to no avail.
MMOne day he overheard some foxerfly bragging about her gorgeous new moonstone necklace, and it hit him, he should make jewelry with his moonstones! He tried his hand at it and found that making things with moonstones, mainly jewelry, was his talent. So, in short, he hoards them so he has plenty with which to make jewelry and occasionally other stuff.
Poem ;;
Firelight,
Firelight,
In the morning there rises something,
Firelight,
Firelight.
Blue colors in the sky,
Flaming bright in the distance,
Where they come from few do know,
Show me more blue flame,
Shining bright within the sky.
The dragon roars,
He screeches with his terrible voice,
It shakes the ground below,
And his fire burns bright in night.
Hotter than most anything else,
The dragons blue flame burns,
It burns,
Bright and hot it burns.
The dragon and his fine jewels,
Lay in the cave with blue flame within,
Firelight,
Firelight,
Show me where the dragon lies.
Song ;;
Fire burning,
Scales shining,
Moonstone glow,
Reaches the valley below.
The dragon roars,
It's sound reaching grassy floors,
Something like a blue sun,
Shining in the night horizon.
A roaring voice shakes the ground,
Wings beat the air,
Flying high up in the cold atmosphere.
Fire flows from his burning mouth,
Mountain air mixes with his blue flame,
Kandakai be the dragon-foxers name.
Voice ;;Kandakai has a deep voice, which is usually soft and gentle. Words roll off of his tongue smoothly. However, when he is angry it becomes loud, booming, ferocious, and quite like a roar.
Where he lives ;; MMHe lives in a cave high up in a spire-like mountain that is 15,386 feet tall. The entrance to the cave is 14,897 feet above the ground. The diameter of the mountain is 278 feet and it stays about the same throughout the mountain. There are many ledges on the mountain that a foxerfly can stop to rest on while flying up to the cave entrance. The top of the mountain has many spike-type-things on the top of it, most of which are of a medium to high height but there are a few short ones.
MMThe cave has a large entrance into a larger "room" with lots of small to medium sized tunnels going out from it. Some of the tunnels are only just large enough for a full grown foxerfly to go through comfortably. There are many tunnels off of tunnels and tunnels of off those tunnels. At the ends of some of the tunnels there are "rooms" which vary in size. Most of the tunnels are long and winding and have forks. Some tunnels go down, some stay the same height and some go upwards. This cave is practically a labyrinth, and only Kandakai and one of his pets can navigate it. One tunnel goes up to the top of the mountain to a decently large area surrounded by short spikes that go around half way up a full-grown foxerfly's neck.
MMAround the mountain is an almost circle shaped valley with a diameter of 2,676 feet. The valley is surrounded by a giant forest with oak, birch, and redwood trees in it. In the valley is a large lake with a stream flowing to it from the forest. The said lake is about 159 feet from the mountain, is full of a variety of fish, and has a few rocks and boulders around it. There are ponds, rabbit holes, and some rocks scattered around the valley, as well as some fruit bushes, trees, and vines in the forest, some of which are at the edge.

Pets ;;
MMKandakai has two pets, an
osprey and a
bald eagle.
MMThe osprey is a young adult male named Joshua, he is 23 inches long, has a wingspan of 68 inches (5 feet 8 inches), and weighs 4.2 lb. Joshua lives in the cave with Kandakai, but tends to stay in the large main room, as he is afraid of getting lost in the tunnels. Sometimes he screeches in panic when Kandakai goes into one of the tunnels, terrified that his master and friend will get lost.
MMThe bald eagle is somewhat older then Joshua, is male and is named Steven. He is 33 inches long, has a wingspan of 82 inches (6 feet 10 inches), and weighs 12 lb. Steven lives on top of the mountain in the area which one of the tunnels leads to. Rarely does he go into the cave because he finds it too confining. He does go in on occasion to go to Kandakai or for some other reason, and thus has learned his way around, just not as well as Kandakai has.

Chapter 2
Casting and Forming Jewelry
MMI usually heat the metal only until it is malleable and then shape the metal of the jewelry with my tools instead of casting, but I will talk about some of the types of casting. Casting is pouring molten metal into a mold and letting it harden. There are two categories of casting, expendable mold casting, in which the molds are only one use, and non-expendable mold casting, in which the molds are reusable. Some types of casting in the expendable mold casting category are: Sand casting, plaster mold casting, shell molding, investment casting and evaporative-pattern casting. Some types of casting in the non-expendable mold casting category are: Permanent mold casting, die castin and centrifugal casting.
MMIn sand casting, as implied by the name, sand is used to make the mold. Sand casting is quiet popular, as it is inexpensive and it is possible to do very small operations with it. You can also do smaller batches in sand casting than in permanent mold casting. For large output rates in sand casting, a lead time of days or sometimes weeks even is required. Moist sand has practically no part weight limit but dry sand has a part mass limit of 2,300–2,700 kg (5,100–6,000 lb) for practical use. The sand is kept together with clays, chemical binders, or polymerized oils, such as motor oil. Sand can usually be reused several times and needs little maintenance.
MMPlaster mold casting is quite like sand casting, only plaster of paris is used to make the mold. In most cases, the mold is able to be prepared in under a week, once that is done, a production rate of 1–10 units/hr·mold is achieved. Items made can be as massive as 45 kg (99 lb) or as small as 30 g (1 oz). Things made in plaster mold casting have very good surface finishes and close
tolerances. This method is a rather cheap alternative to other molding processes for complex parts, because of the low price of the plaster and the
near net shape castings. The downside to plaster mold casting is that you can only use low melting point non-ferrous materials, like aluminium, copper, magnesium, and zinc.
MMShell casting is similar to sand casting, but the mold is made up of a "shell" of hardened sand instead of one made of a sand filled flask. The sand used in shell casting is finer than the sand used in sand casting and it is mixed with a resin enabling it to be heated by and hardened into a shell around the pattern. The finer sand and resin also allows for finer surface finishes. Shell casting is more precise than sand casting and is easily automated. Metals commonly used in this process are cast iron, aluminium, magnesium, and copper alloys. This kind of casting is good for small to medium sized detailed items.
MMInvestment is one of the oldest known techniques for forming metal. Investment casting provides high quality components with the important benefits of accuracy, repeatability, versatility and integrity. Investment casting's name comes from the fact that the pattern is invested, or surrounded, with a refractory material. The wax patterns must be handled very carefully, because they are too weak to handle the forces encountered during the making of the mold. Usually investment casting is used for small castings but it has been used to make complete aircraft door frames, with steel castings up to 300 kg and aluminium castings up to 30 kg. Investment casting is an expensive process compared to other casting processes like die casting and sand casting, but it can produce components with intricate contours and usually provides a near net shape, making there need of only little or no rework once cast.
MMEvaporative-pattern casting is a type of casting in which the pattern is made of a material that evaporates during the pour. There are two main types of evaporative-pattern casting: lost-foam casting and full-mold casting.
MMLost-foam casting is a lot like investment casting, but foam is used instead of wax. This kind of casting uses foam's low boiling point to to eliminate the need to melt wax out of the mold, thus improving investment casting.
MMA combination of sand casting and lost-foam casting is used to make full-mold casting. An
expanded polystyrene foam pattern is surrounded by sand and metal is poured directly into the mold, vaporizing the foam instantly.
MMReusable molds, usually made from metal, are employed in permanent mold casting. Most often gravity is used to fill the mold, though gas pressure or a vacuum is also used. A kind of the gravity casting process, called slush casting, makes hollow castings. Aluminum, magnesium, and copper alloys are commonly used metals. Tin, zinc, and lead alloys are other materials used and iron and steel are cast also into graphite molds. Permanent molds last more than one casting but do eventually wear out.
MMMolten metal is, under high pressure, forced into mold cavities (which are machined into dies) in die casting. In general, die castings are made from nonferrous metals, specifically zinc, copper, and aluminium based alloys, but ferrous die castings are possible. This method is very good for applications in which many small to medium components are required with good detail, fine surface quality, and dimensional consistency.
MMIn centrifugal casting, the molten metal is poured into the mold and hardens while the mold rotates. The metal is poured in through the center of the mold, it's axis of rotation, and because of the centrifugal force it is pushed outwards towards the edges of the mold. Centrifugal casting is independent of gravity and force because it creates it's own force with the use of a temporary sand mold held in a spinning chamber at up to 900 newtons. Lead time will vary depending upon the application. Semi- and true-centrifugal allows for 30-50 pieces/hr-mold to be produced, with a practical batch limit for processing of about 9000 kg total mass with a usual limit per item of 2.3 - 4.5 kg. Casting of railway wheels was an early industrial application of the method that the German company Krupp came up with, providing for the rapid growth of the enterprise. Small pieces of art such as jewelry are often made with this method using the lost-wax process (Investment casting) because the forces make it possible for rather thick liquids to go through very small passages and into fine details.
MMAs I said in the first paragraph, I usually don't cast, I use my fire breath and tools to make my jewelry. The different tools I use are hammers, pliers, cutting machinery, and an engraver. First I heat the metal with my breath just enough to make it malleable, then I hammer it for flatness and width and I use the pliers and the cutting machinery to shape it how I like it. For putting in gems I shape some of the metal into holders the same size as the gem and slightly larger, place the gem in, carefully hammer it to fit around the gem, and then heat it some more to melt it around the gem, but not so much that it turns to liquid. Finally, I use my engraver to put in little details if any are needed.

Why he's all alone wrote:MMWhen he was born, Kandakai was rather
rejected by his family because he was so
different. His parents didn't throw him
out, but he was practically an outcast.
Kandakai knew his family didn't like him,
and he didn't really trust them, so one day,
he ran away. He ran away partly because
his family didn't like him, and partly
because he was somewhat independent.
MMKandakai is still all alone for a few
different reasons. First off, he is entirely
independent now, due to running away.
Secondly, he's never even seen any other
foxerflies since he ran away. Lastly, the
biggest reason of all, he doesn't trust
other foxerflies because of how his
family treated him.
How he got his pets
MMKandakai found an abandoned egg one day and took it to his home to care for it. He was only just barely a teenager when he found the egg. Keeping the egg warm with his fire breath, he was careful not to overheat it. Eventually the egg hatched, revealing an osprey, and that is how he got Joshua.MMOne day, Kandakai was outside gathering berries with Joshua, and a bald eagle swooped down. Thinking the eagle was after him, Kandakai ran, Joshua following closely behind. Kandakai turned to see the eagle attacking a panther that would have killed Kandakai and Joshua had the eagle not come. The eagle quickly befriended Kandakai and moved to the top of the mountain, becoming Kandakai's pet. Some Excerpts from Kandakai's Journal
MMMMMMMMMMNovember 30th, 2013MMI ran away into a forest three days ago, and I'm still in the forest! I mean yeesh, how big is this forest?!?! And I'm getting tired of almost eating poisonous berries. Yesterday I got caught in some weird criss-crossy string thing that when I walked on it it sprang up and surrounded me! Thank goodness for my claws, without them I would have been stuck in that thing forever. I haven't seen light since I entered the forest because the trees are so thick!MMMMMMMMMMDecember 3rd, 2013MMAfter traveling in the forest for a week I've finally found a clearing! There is a huuuuge mountain in the center, as well as a lake and some ponds around the area. I'm gonna head for it!MMI reached the mountain, there are some ledges, so tomorrow I'm gonna see how far I can fly up it. For now I'm gonna sleep right next to this mountain.MMMMMMMMMMDecember 5th, 2013MMI made it almost to the top of the mountain yesterday and I found this cave! Then I explored it, it's like a labyrinth in here! ... And now I'm lost... What am I gonna do???? If I try to get out I might get even more lost, but If I don't I'll die! Umm.. Yeah, bye for now journal.MMMMMMMMMMDecember 8th, 2013MMI just got out of the labyrinth like cave a few hours ago, I got a nice long drink of water at the lake and now I'm gathering and eating berries. I'm gonna have to explore that cave some more, but next time I'm bringing supplies! At the very least I'm gonna use the main area for a place to sleep at night.
