Sorry to the archivist, I haven't quite picked a name or gender yet ;3;
I was suprised to find out that Americans waste 33 million tons of food per year. Or that 165 billion dollars worth of food is wasted in America each year. I expected the number to be very high, but not that high. People don't think of food waste as much of a problem compared to other enviromental issues. It's hard to believe it's possible for people to waste this much food considering many people in our countryand others are on a tight budget. I don't think consumers do it on purpose . I think companies and resturants also waste food.
But aside from so much edible food going to waste instead of hungry people eating it there is also the issue of green house gasses. When food goes into the landfill it's another contributor to methane gas. We already have lots of issues with methane gas and global warming and this is another cause. Dumping out so much food is not only wasteful but now a climate change factor.
