Remake of my mermaid deerssert entry (✿◠‿◠)

This dearie seems to have a bit of fish netting on her leg! Although the hunting of Deersserts is prohibited, someone just couldn't be without this girl's precious blue scales. Write a short story about the day she was almost captured.

ＴＨＥ ＤＡＹ ＳＨＥ ＷＡＳ ＮＥＡＲＬＹ ＣＡＰＴＵＲＥＤ ;;
xxCalypso sighed anxiously and peered out of her cave yet again. The boat was still there- it hadn't moved at all since it had arrived the previous week, and Calypso found it difficult to avoid. Her cave was one of many that dotted the rocky shores of the island, but was the most comfortable by far, though she spent little time in it. Calypso preferred to sleep beneath the stars, and spend her days tending to her coral. That was mainly what worried her about the boat. It could be there for the coral reef of the island, mostly untouched by humans. It was Calypso's pride and joy. Now she hadn't checked on the reef for two days, her legs beginning to cramp from staying in her cave. She had to go sooner or later, but the question was when.
So at last, on the sunset of the third day, she summoned all her courage and ducked out of the cave. Her scaled legs were often quite annoying, as they were very flashy, but when in water they blended well with the shimmering waves. She swam out of the cave's mouth, glad to stretch her legs properly, and dived, navigating the ocean path. Calypso had practiced her journey to the reef so many times it was almost a second nature by now. She rounded the side of the islands, dominated mainly by cliffs, and slipped away to her reef, glad that the boat was mostly out of sight. Still it lingered, just far enough from the shore to be nonthreatening.
Calypso found herself tired before she even waded into the shallows. Retreating under a hanging piece of rock, Calypso caught her breath and peeked back at the boat only to realize it was closer. Much, much closer. Despite the fact that Calypso's bright colors blended well with the colors of the island, they stood in stark contrast to the craggy rocks, and it was painfully easy it would be to spot her.
She made her choice as quickly as she could while feeling so disoriented and scrambled over the rocks, heading for the beach. It was the easiest spot for her to run, and it bordered the jungle, which was a good hiding place.
Humans began to swarm overboard their boat as it pulled closer to shore, and now that Calypso had given her position away she was petrified. They were gaining on her, a vicious mass of five or six with nets in hand. They lunged for her-
And Calypso did the only thing she could think to do by launching herself off the rocky shore and straight into the powerful wave retreating into the ocean. She felt a net wrap around her leg, but swam as hard as she could, and the pressure from the hand holding it vanished.
She held her breath as long as she could, and when she at last emerged from the ocean, they were gone, leaving only a tangled net and footprints behind.

MMA small red light glows in the distance, a curious Deerssert ventures from the shore to see what it is. The light grows from small to large, the air is warm here, unlike the cool night air around it. A step too close and the Deerssert's scales shimmer in the light from this strange ball of glowing red, and humans with a dark feel about them turn to see this gorgeous Deerssert with her scales alight; a smirk forms upon their faces. A group of three they were, two men and young lady adorned with much fine jewelry. The lady smiles sweetly at the Deerssert and approaches her, but then a net is thrown at the Deerssert. The Deerssert dodges barely escaping from the strange thing.
MMThe ocean far away and out of sight the poor Deerssert flees into the unknown. Humans pursue on horseback; a net catches on the Deerssert's ankle and she trips and falls. One more net falls from directly above, the people smirking, but a ripping noise and a blur and the Deerssert is gone in the night.

Story:

They say a horrible fate awaits those who break the crystal surface of the waves. Darkness encroaches upon you, and the dead begin to walk. None of us really believed those old stories. But I do now. For I have seen their truths with my own eyes.

It was night. The moon's gentle beams illuminated the water. And also something more... the ship. The ship made of blackened wood with crimson sails. The ship whose crew were rumored to be eternally damned with undeath.
None of us believed those old tales. The ship hadn't moved in years. It was said that underwater currents held the ship perfectly in place. We didn't believe that either.
However, none of us were brave enough to go check out the ship. None of us except me. My name is Princess Haruka, and I am heir to the throne of the merdeer. The merdeer are a clan of deer with gills and scales, as well as enhanced swimming ability. We have thrived in the world's oceans for thousands of years, undetected.
So it was on that moonlit night that I began my greatest adventure to date. I silently slipped out of my room and swam to the ship, always beneath the surface of the water. I waited until I was close to the ship, then I held my breath leaped from the waves, scales shimmering in the moonlight.
I landed nimbly on the deck with the sharp clatter of my hooves, and a sound struck my ears. A different clatter. A rattling clatter.
I turned, and behind me were three undead pirates. One was clad in regal, though grimy and torn, captain's clothing. The other two were his crew, Boneslaves in old rags.
The captain's empty eye sockets glowed red and I screamed. Air filled my lungs and they burned, longing for the cool relief of the water. I turned to leap over the rail and back into the water when a large, heavy net was cast over me.
"The DeadNoble and WightKing will pay a hefty price for this one." The DeadCaptain rasped, smiling from beneath his decaying beard. "Take her below deck."
Adrenaline pumping, I writhed and flailed. The two crewmates lost hold of the net and I somehow wiggled out of it. Red spots appeared before my eyes and my lungs were on fire. I galloped across the deck with my last ounce of strength, leaping gracefully back into the water.
Before the monsters could come after me I returned swiftly to the coral kingdom that was my home, undetected. Once safe in my room, I noticed a bit of net had caught around my foot. I decided to keep it, a reminder of the terrible fate that almost was.
