I suppose the first way I'd describe myself is stubborn. Ordering me around is the most sure-fire way to piss me off. I don't care if you're older or smarter than me, do not try to tell me what to do. Once I have my mind set on something,
you're gonna have a hard time trying to get me to change my mind. It's not that I think I'm right all the time; most of the time I act stubborn just to spite someone. I make decisions based on fact, not faith. If you're going to try and
persuade me, you'll need something backed up with actual facts.

C O M M A N D I N G
Commanding is for sure. I'm probably one of the most commanding Kias you'll meet. Not commanding as in bossy, but confident, direct. I know what I want and I know how to get it. I work in a business job, so I'm pretty good at negotiating and business related things. I get the attention in any room I'm in. I'm very capable, and I know that, so I flaunt it. Some might call me arrogant, but I'm just proud of who I am. I'm pretty sure of myself and who wouldn't be proud of that? What can I say, I wanna be the very best like no one ever was.

I N D E P E N D E N T
What can I say, I'm a loner. I have a low tolerance for stupidity, and a majority of the populous is rather idiotic. I mean, I don't necessarily think I'm above anyone, but I have these lovely gifts called "common-sense" and "self-control." Those seem to be pretty rare traits nowadays. If you're going to bother displaying yourself to the public, have enough dignity to keep yourself
from being laughed at. I hold myself in pretty high esteem. You don't want to put yourself at a low rung on the social ladder. All that gets you is stress and heartache. Just don't embarrass yourself, kid.





I N S E C U R E
H-ey, don't be rude about it. Clearly I have some problems with lying and self-worth. No need to get your feathers ruffled. I'm insecure. Actually really insecure. I don't have very good self-worth. I find fault in almost everything I do. I'm dependant on video games for my happiness. I suck. Is that honest enough for you? I feel like if I act like the Kia I want to be I'll eventually become him. I don't hate myself or anything, I just have a few self-image problems. Maybe more than the average Kia but nothing horrible. I'm not a horrible Kiamara, okay? I'm just a little scared.

M A N I P U L A T I V E
Yeah. Manipulative is my second word. That doesn't mean I'm this huge liar or rude guy or anything; I just do and say some things to keep myself safe. I usually don't trust anyone until I know all their dirty laundry. I don't go and spread it, but it's just protection for me. If I know someone else's crap, then they're less likely to spread anything they know about me. That's just how it works. I have trust issues and I'm kinda dishonest. But I'm being honest here. I am a good Kia, I swear. I'm just scared, like I said. I like being able to keep myself safe in situations that are hard to control. I guess you could also say I have control issues. I have some problems, alright? I'm just a Kiamara though. Just like you.

U N C O N V E N T I O N A L
I'm a huge nerd. Not only a nerd textbook-wise, but a comic and gaming nerd. I'm not fond of really anything that other Kias my age are into. Sports are literally the most boring thing that exist. I'm not, like, way far out there and super super different, not at all. I'm just kind of unconventional. My sense of humour is pretty dry and sarcasm is my second language. Weird food is the best kind and I don't know where I'm going with this. I'm not gonna go all hipster-y and say something weird, but I'll just end with the fact that I'm a bit odd. And it's fun.

A;; Not a problem at all. Thanks for doing this, it's pretty neat.


Q;; so, for how long have you been a pokemon fan?
A;; Quite a while. Ah, I'm twenty-two now, and I started playing when I was twelve. Ten years, I'd say. A good portion of my life. Ruby was my first and favourite game.


Q;; is there any particular reason why you like ruby the best?
A;; Ruby makes you a hero. I understand that in all of the Pokemon games, you're the hero. Believe me, I own them all. But the thing about Ruby is that you feel like you are the hero. I don't know how to explain it without being redundant. In this game, you feel like you were so important. That everyone needed you and you didn't let them down. That something was terribly, terribly wrong and you saved the day. You helped so many people and Pokemon, you did amazing things. I had trouble feeling that anything I did was remotely amazing when I was younger, and playing Pokemon just gave me this huge sense of accomplishment. It got me through my youth. Nothing can ever replace Pokemon for me.


Q;; wow, that's really neat. do you play any other games?
A;; I work at GameStop, so I've played a wide, wide range of games. Besides Pokemon, Skyrim, Spyro, DRAMAtical Murder, and Bioshock Infinite are my favourites. I've played quite a bit of Call of Duty for gaming competitions, so I'm pretty fond of that as well.

Q;; what are your favourite pokemon?
A;; Flygon, Flygon, Flygon, and Flygon. Seriously, Flygon is my love. But my dream team is the Pokemon I had on Ruby. These guys:


Q;; so dragon type is your favourite?
A;; Actually, no. Grass type is my favourite. I'm not really sure why, probably because I have such a good relationship with my Sceptile. I didn't get a Flygon until recently, and she's the most amazing thing.

Q;; that's neat. do you collect pokemon cards?
A;; Yes, yes, yes! I'm an avid Pokemon card collector. Here are a few of my favourite cards!

Childhood
Maxie's mother left when he was very young. Never was he nor his father given a clear reason why, other than that she was going to stay gone. Maxie would never say that it affected him in a direct way, but ultimately it did change a great deal of his life. When he was old enough to understand that she was gone, Maxie put the pain upon himself of believing that it was his fault that she left.
After she left, his father resolved to give Maxie the best life a boy could have. What he didn't know was that Maxie wasn't necessarily interested in what the others boys were. Sports held no interest for him; the idea of getting muddy and sweaty while chasing a ball didn't appeal to him. The more vulgar aspects that a young boy loves—farting contests, belching, nosepicking— were a source of great disdain for the child.
He was impatient as a child, and it was rare that something held his interest for an extended period. He became fascinated with stars, but they soon became dull and too far away. Skateboarding took a hold on him, but the frustration that came with it drove him to another prospect. He jumped from hobby to hobby—pebble collecting, turtle racing, botany, ornaments—but nothing truly interested him. He was bright, but didn't do very well in school. He had trouble learning and memorising the information taught, and because of that he was constantly being told he wasn't doing well enough.
He was popular enough, never really having trouble making or finding friends; but he was lonely. Maxie didn't have anyone to really relate to. The bullying really wasn't bad when he was young, but it was no less hurtful. Getting called gay, being mocked about gender, and being shamed for learning difficulties were all in the repertoires of his bullies. He kept most of his true self hidden behind a false approval and interest of society's ongoings.
He was eleven when Maxie discovered gaming. By an odd grace, this was also the year that he finally took his feathers. The family feathers that were to be passed down to Maxie were five brilliant green feathers. He refused to accept them for years, such to the anger and confusion of his father. To this day, Maxie would refuse to admit the reason why: they were the same colour as his mother's eyes had been said to be. He couldn't bear a constant reminder of what he had made himself believe about her leaving. He accepted them only after he permanently altered them to a different colour. One of his biggest secrets is the story of his feathers. If he was to be asked how he received them, his story is that he found them himself. The shame and sadness that he associates with them has dulled over time. He has considered abandoning them and finding his own, but a deep part of him desperately wants to keep whatever he can of the mother he never knew.He had always kept a tab on gaming, but it never was a source of great interest. That was until Pokemon was introduced to him.
Adolesence
Pokemon soon became a passion of his, though he wouldn't play himself. He felt he had enough trouble conforming with his peers' idea of normal, and didn't want to add another item to the mix. Maxie would watch the anime in secret and his knowledge of the Pokemon world soon became quite vast. He could tell you anything and everything about Pokemon.
It was the winter of his 13th year when Maxie began gaming himself. He had a natural grace about him that just seemed to make his consciousness meld with the melody. There were no friends or how-to's for Maxie; just an treehouse in the forest by his house. For hours a day, he would perfect his team by standards he set. It was a brilliant and vibrant source of joy in his life. His father never questioned where he would disappear to; he almost had given up trying to connect with his son. His love certainly did not fade, though.
It was April the next year when Maxie asked if he could go to a local gaming meet up. His father was confused, but cooperative; never would he have guessed that gaming was his son's passion. Maxie went to the meet up, fully expecting a dismissal of him from the other gamers there. However, what happened what not what he was expecting.
His performance was taken into extreme notice. He had played not well, but exceedingly spectacularly. A week passed before he was requested to meet with the directors of the event. Maxie was horrified; had he done something so wrong that they wanted to speak to him in person?
It wasn't a surprise for them to inform Maxie that he wasn't going to be given a part in the regional gaming tournament; what shocked him was what they proposed after that. They wanted him to go to Miami to compete in the national gaming tournament,
The first battle was rigorous. It was meant to break him, to get the newbie to go home. Anxiety became his constant companion. The desperation to win wasn't anything uncommon; fear of failing was a thread that connected everyone.
He continued as a player. A terror of the world developed as he continued; a terror of each and every moment being judged by someone. A vivid memory recalls Maxie scolding himself for breathing too much, afraid someone would think it was odd. Oddly enough, nothing could deter him. His opportunities grew until his final match. At the time, he would have never thought that it would have been his last. In the middle of the match, something clicked inside him. It wasn't a bone breaking or anything like that; it was an understanding. The world he had come to love so much was being ruined and poisoned by the stress and fear that came along with it. He was done, and that night, he played the best game he ever had.
Present
Maxie currently lives in Miami, Florida and attends University of Miami, majoring in astronomy. His love of the stars from when he was young has resurfaced, it seems. He lives a relaxed life as a clerk at GameStop. Many times he has considered returning to the world of professional gaming, but the stress he put himself through has always wards him off. The beauty and wonder of gaming has never worn off though, and he plays at small meet ups, as well as teaching strategy. He also loves it because he knows the hardship it can bring; he can be there to make sure that it doesn't just become a source of stress and fear.
