Why do I love the night? Have you ever been up at night, friend? The night has a song all of its own, different from the daylight hours, more serene, filled with a soft, sad melody... That is if you know where to find it. I love the night because traveling through the cool shadows on a moonless night is better than traveling in the blazing heat. I love the night because many things happen... See that clearing over there? A mother fox came with two cubs, but something must have scared her away, you can still see her paw prints right over there in the mud. Another fox, a younger one, came along hours later and headed off in the direction of the mother and her cubs, it must have been her mate because I didn't see the boy again the rest of the night.
Why do I love the night? Because while you were asleep a little wild boar came snuffling through the underbrush, but I scared him walking along the path and he charged, thought better of it, and veered away.
Why do I love the night? Because the moon, be it full and round or no moon at all, guides me through my travels, the open sky glittering with billions of dying stars. I love the night because that sweet song I mentioned earlier is the soft whistling of the wind through the trees and grass, it is the snoring of creatures old, and young, large, and small hunkering down for wonderful dreams, or terrifying nightmares. The night is where the nocturnal animals come to play, I watched an owl fly the other night

, its call could be heard throughout the forest where I was traveling through, but then silence hit again for I believe it found a meal, and the song picked up again, louder than ever. Accompanied with the song has the beautiful howl from the wolves

out in the distance.
I love the night because of the dazzling lightning bugs that fly hard and long to find their sweetheart, their glows coming every few seconds in hopes to see a returning glow among the grasses.

I love the night because the bats come out to play, and have fun, while flying and calling out to each other in a language all their own.
Why do I love the night? I love the night because of all the things that go on while others are sleeping, things that during the day you wouldn't be able to hear, or see, things that if you didn't listen closely for you would miss that soft melody fading into nothing as dawn's song begins when the sun starts to rise.
