I snorted at the challenging stallion, my antlers ready for anything. I heard a calming nicker, my love Aurora. This was what I was fighting for. Then, the enemy stallion charged me and knocked me backwards. I fought with all I had, I HAD to win. I narrowed my eyes
and neighed with deifance. He hadn't won yet. I put my head down and our antelrs clashed together, like the sound of a crack of the gun. The other stallion rose up on his hind legs and brought his hooves down on my back, causing flakes of flesh to fall off from the edge. I squealed in pain but I did the same. Yes! The stallion submitted! I had won Aurora and her affections! Giving the stallion a curt nod, I lowered my front legs and walked over to Aurora and nuzzled her, happy as a pig in mud. Though our kegacy would carry on, I wouyld always bare the scars of this battle.

Erik was blinded while protecting his mate, Aurora from a mountain lion.
I watched Aurora out of the corner of my eye while I grazed. She didn't notice, since she was busy grazing the fresh clumps of clover. Taking a large clump of the sweet clover with a soft ripping of their roots, I trotted up to her. I nuzzled her grulla coat, enjoying the feeling of its rare softness. It was perfect, the sun was not bearing down harshy through the trees as it usually did, ansd the air had a silky coolness rare in the summer months. Aurora acknowledged me with a nicker. I nudged her belly softly, feeling the tight bump. Aurora was expecting out first foal. Gibing a content sigh, I folded my back leg and fell asleep.
I awoke to the sound of squealing, was it the foal? No, the scream of the hungry mountain lion echoed through the woods. We were ina valley, but it was odd for them to stalk our kind. I took a few steps towards Aurora to make sure she would be safe. He air switched its course, so the foul smell of the beast was carried away from he. Darn it. I thought, annoyed. I was stupid to let my guard down. With a temendous leap, the lion was on Aurora, its curved claws like daggers on her flesh. I bolted at the mountain lion, but it snarled angrily, caudsing a uncontrollable strike of panic to flood my brain. I sprinted away, but when I returned the only thing that was left in the valley was a still figure. The color of my love. I knew I was too late. She was gone along with our foal. I tunred to see the lion give a soft purr of amusment of my pain.Blinded by pure fury, I charged him, but he was more nimble than I. The rotten stench flooded my nostrils as the mountain lion swiped its claws at my face, hitting the target. My eye. I erupted with a sqeaul, but kept on fighting. I was now half blind, but this cat would pay.
After killing the mountain lion, I walked to the lake where Aurora and I had met and dipped my head in to wash my face. My name would no longer be Strong Wind, it would be Love Is A Sweet Sorrow from now on.
