Rhine sits by the giant arched window for the fourth time today, her easel propped up steadily and her paintbrush in paw. She lets out a brief wistful sigh and starts to paint again. The colors are familiar with the usual patterns of sunset and there is still the ship making its slow trek across the ocean, gliding on the reflections of the evening sun, the golden light glinting on every wave’s peak. She sets down the palette and sizes the painting up before deciding that it's met quality standard and she puts it on the rack to dry. Even in painting, she follows protocol down to the last step.

Her mind’s eye gives her a more vivid image than my own open eyes can. The colors on the latest addition to her nautical series are striking and I can nearly taste the saltwater mist of the sea. She sets her brush down in the sink and directs a thought to me.

I wish I wasn’t afraid of the water… it’s kind of funny, isn’t it? How I’m named after a body of water and I can’t swim because I’m too afraid of water to learn how?

She released the pent-up air she was holding in while she was painting and hovers slowly to the tall French doors that overlook the nearby coast. She was a girl of old habits, and her old habits die much more wrenchingly than most. One of those habits was to bottle her feelings inside... of course, that often leads to awful explosions and tantrums at times, but at others, she just swallows her emotions and moves on. This was one of those emotion-swallowing times.

She put a paw to the window and turned around to face me.
I'll do it one day, you know. I'll go outside and be able to meet all those sailors and oceanfolk. I bet they'll love me just as much as I love them and that we'll be able to go on all sorts of nautical adventures. Wouldn't that be fun? I think so.

I shook my head slowly at her, but I returned her gentle smile. She was young and misunderstood...borderline naive, if I could even say that. The people out there wouldn't understand who or what Rhine is, despite her good intentions.

They might recognize her art or their own vessels in her work, but they could never understand her... not more than surface deep. She is curious, I must admit. She aspires to be with the life underneath the sea's choppy surface, while also being absolutely afraid of the water. She cannot swim, nor learn how as a Floc... because of this, she is always wistful, but I can help her cope.

The meaning of Zackary is "the Lord has remembered".
Even though this has nothing to do with Zack's personality,
I thought it would be interesting to put in, since it
ties along with his name. The name Zackary originated
in the Hebrew language, and was placed 73rd
in the top 100 names of 2013.
Zackary prefers to be called Zack, however.

Personality {500 / 500 words}:
Zack is a classy, always smiling, happy go lucky guy.
He can always cheer you up, with his magic -
cards, telepathy, or even his ability to levitate!
Since he has not undergone Catharsis yet,
he doesn't have extraordinary, amazing
powers, but he uses what he has so far.
Zackary loves his magic - he's a magician,
a showman; whatever you want to call it!
He loves to preform his magic at shows;
anyfloc from anywhere can come to see
them! Zack hopes that other Flox will
come to see his shows and maybe they'll
want to do magic, too.
Zackary has strong feelings towards all
Flox. He wants to be friends with everyone,
as he is very social. You won't ever see him
without a Floc friend, chatting away til noon.

The yellow Floc, with a dark top hat and a silver wand, pulls you over to his little stand on the road.
It's bent in many places and scratched, not looking very pleasing, but it seems no one cares.
I'm Zackary the Magician - the best magician in these parts.
You ever heard of... Magic?
He says magic a little dreamily.
I am the king of magic. Only the best.
For no fee, little one, you can be my assistant!
Stand right here, please.
Before you can say "no thanks", he shuffles you over, and you stand up on a well-used and aged crate. It squeaks a little, but it doesn't break.
Everyone in the audience is listening, all oohing and aahing telepathically - the only way you and your species can communicate.
You see, I have twenty cards in my hand. Only one is an ace.
The grinning magician shows you and the audience his cards, revealing that there is only one ace, then shuffles them.
Do you think you'll pick the ace? It's a very slim chance, but anything is possible with magic.
You lift up your paw, it shaking a bit, and lift up a card.
...So, you've picked your card. Hm...
With a lash of his silver magic wand, Zackary backs up.
Could you show me what it is, little dear?
You shrug and show him the card; after seeing it you gasp in excitement.
It was the ace! But... How?
And it's the ace! See, lass, I told you anything was possible with magic!
You ask Zackary telepathically how he did the card trick, and the magician simply replied, "a true magician never reveals his secrets."
Stepping into the audience, Zack said, telepathically of course, "ladies and gentleflox, come back next time to see Zackary the magician preform even more...
He will cut his assistant in half and magically put them back together again!"
You levitate off quickly, even though you did like the magician's show, you did not not want to be that very "lucky" assistant."
