Houdini
One look at this Floc's starred cape was all I needed
to know I wanted to name him something magic-related. I
chose to name him after Harry Houdini, a famous magician
and escape artist whose name is often associated with the act
of disappearing.

Mortals are such finicky creatures, in a manner I can't help but look at with both amusement and envy. One would think that with the seemingly unimportant ability of being able to gaze upon their own reflection, they might have a greater appreciation for their true identities than those of us with no such power. It is a marvelous gift to be able to look into a truthful mirror like the very one I hold now in my paws, and see, instead of the empty night air behind me, a face. It could be a fair face that makes the world swoon with its beauty, or it could be a face so monstrous that all who look upon it are transfixed with fear and hate. But it would be my face.

It would be my true face, because a mirror cannot tell a lie.

But mortals are not so honest. They take their heavenly gift and twist it into a grotesque, infernal curse. Rather than marvel at the perfect copy that reveals itself to them, they use it to conceal, alter, lock away the details they find distasteful under a deceptive lock whose key they take the utmost care to discard. The great pains they go through to hide the very thing I'd give the stars and the moon to see just once is so ironic, it's almost humorous. That they have the means to do it is what breeds my jealousy.

Of course, I have some clue as to what my face looks like. It'd be logical to assume that it is the same smoky violet as the rest of my body, and the images on the posters advertising my weekly magic act seem to confirm this. They also show that I have the quite normal features of two eyes, two ears, and a nose (as well as the less normal trait of two fangs). Yet, these are nothing more than silly cartoon depictions that leave me unsatisfied. How long are my ears? How big is my nose? Is my snout round and smooth, with gentle curves, or is it a thin, pointy thing that juts out at an odd angle?

I have no way of knowing, and those that do can't seem to agree on a single answer. One draws my nose small and boxy, another prefers it triangular and huge. Even if I were to hire the finest painter in the world, I couldn't trust their image, as portraitists are taught by clients' vanity to always lessen the blemishes and embellish their virtues, now matter how truthful they ask you to be.

It's a sad, simple truth that my perception of what I look like changes twelve times a year, when a new artist sends me the monthly poster ads. In January, I might be The Amazing Houdini, with the tall, pointed ears and spindly whiskers. By February, I've become Houdini the Powerful, bearing long sabertooth fangs and a broad skull. But it's through these stage names that I undergo my most potent disappearing spell. Under all these personas, all these false depictions, I'll never be able to look into a mirror and see Houdini the Real, Houdini the True.

Floc Name and reason: It's name is Avarice, another way to say Greed. The reason behind this name is that this flox is rather greedy when it comes to feeding, whether it be by draining others in it's symbiotic relationship or by consuming human foods. Plus, it gets quite happy when gaining things for it's own benefit. Avarice here likes to refer to himself as a male.

The only thing that he knows about his appearance is the color of his paws; dark blue, and the oversize cape draped over his back. Often enough he gets odd looks from other Flox, and when he smiles the other will scuttle away, and so he imagines having long sabre-like teeth. Other than that, he thinks that he has a long, flowing cape and gleaming navy blue fur. Previously seeing white stripes on his legs, he also thinks he has some on his body, which is true. Thinking he looks so handsome, he thinks his fur is slick all over his body then puffed out at his chest.

What he thinks he looks like: This is what he thinks he looks like. He often prances around, thinking he is much better looking than others. Sometimes, he gets into fights with other vampire flox over handsomeness.

Floc Name and reason:Twilight,just because. I'm really not trying to referance the movies/books but the stars on his cape reminded me of twilight,so yah.And he was born at twilight so that to.

He thinks he is a werewolf because when he was with his friends they tricked him into thinking he was a werewolf.So ever sense he though he looked like one but just had vampire proplems like wanting to suck blood,and having sharp teeth all the time not just when there is a full moon.

Floc Name and reason: Her full name is Aquinnah, but she prefers Quinn. He full name means high land, but this is ultimately irrelevant. It's just a pretty name, so I decided to see if it meant anything. She doesn't have a particular

affinity for heights.

Quinn has always been irritated by not being able to see her own reflection. She likes to be prim, but since she can't see most of her body, this is hard. She's always asking others if her face is clean (wouldn't want blood stains!). She was insistent on knowing what her face looked like, so I decided to take a shot at a portrait for her. That being said, she gave me some... suggestions while I was drawing to it isn't as accurate as I would have liked it to have been. Silly girl seems to be under the odd impression that vampires sparkle.

She thinks she has some lovely hair on her head, yellow slit eyes (they are yellow, but she doesn't have slit pupils). The heart was partially my fault; I told her she had something on her face as a joke and she took me seriously. Haven't been able to convince her that I was joking yet. The horns are probably just from watching one too many monster movies. Vampires don't have horns, but she said they don't have fluffy tails either when I told her that. And yes, she does think she sparkles for some odd reason. She must have got into the twilight books while I wasn't looking >.>

[color=#232229][b]Personality (Write):[/b] Aquinnah is sharp-witted an feisty. She always knows what she wants, and if you try to convince her otherwise she won't be amused. Most people get the impression that she's self-rightous and arrogant, but this is hardly true. Quinn has never seen her own face, and this makes her insecure and very sensitive to comments about her appearance. Even a compliment can make her nervous, as she sometimes has trouble reading sarcasm. First impressions of her tend to be bad, as she comes off as bitter, snappy, and a bit scatter-brained and unstable from time to time._ That being said, once you get past her edgy, flashy outer shell, she really is rather sweet, and actually, fairly docile. She's completely different around her few friends. Quiet, gentle, and helpful, there's nobody better to vent about life to. However, she's still strongly opinionated and stubborn, so if you tell her about your problems you best take her advice since she's not going to change her mind. She does tend to be right, but if she's wrong, no apologies. She'll blame you for your execution of her idea._ As a friend, she's loyal and sweet, but can be brutally honest and hurtful._ As an enemy... that's a bad idea. Hurt her (or someone she's close to) she's like a rabid dog. She's going to kill you. She doesn't have a moral code when it comes to vengeance, and she does some pretty horrible things without thinking. Occasionally she'll regret it after, but she normally feels no pity or regret. The worst possible thing for her is if two friends go at it. She will end up hurting one of them, and this tears her apart. When she's sad or grieving she's like a loose canon, and will lash out at everyone and everything.[/color]

Floc Name and Reason: Darius Omen
The name Darius distantly comes from the Persian name "Dārayavahush.' The element "dâraya" in this name means "to possess," and vahu means "good." Darius possesses many valuable and alluring items, or things that he sees as "good." Omen is Darius's last name. An Omen is anything perceived or happening that is believed to portend a good or evil event or circumstance in the future. Darius is superstitious, and often believes that certain events mean certain things.

The reason why I chose this name is because I like the way it sounds, it has an aristocratic ring to it. Darius has an obsession with valuable goods, so I wanted him to have a grand and stylish name to go with it.

To put is simply, Darius believes that he is a beautiful thief. He can see that his fur is white, which is a simple but elegant color. He thinks that he is small and fragile, just like the items he collects. He is correct on this, Darius is a wee floc, which aids him in his thievery. He does not like to be seen, and its rare that he is. If he can not view his beauty with his own eyes than he doesn't want anybody else to. He is a self-serving flock, and its in infrequent occasion for him to have anybody else on his mind. He lives in a forgotten temple, covered in vines and overgrown trees. Nobody knows of the temple besides Darius himself, and he plans to keep it that way. It is made of the finest white marble and has many carvings and statues inside. Darius's light pelt blends in with the exquisite material, which is another reason why he finds his fur to be so beautiful. The temple is beautiful, and his color is very similar to that of the temple's, so he must be beautiful as well. His charming white coat doesn't always do him well, though, and the luminous color of white is easy to spot in the darkness. This is why Darius' cape is dark colored, it helps him blend in with the darkness while he is on the hunt for valuable and eye pleasing items. These items include a range of things, from precious articles such as diamonds and gold to things that are simply shining with a radiate way of reflecting light. He steals from everybody, humans, flox, and other animals in the forest he lives in. He steals these things because he find them to be as beautiful and lovely as he is, and like himself he thinks that they should be for his eyes only. He displays these personal treasures in the temple he lives in so he can admire them. He has one weakness, the rain. The water and mud destroys his grand white pelt. If there is a storm than you can bet that Darius is in his temple or somewhere dry and warm out of the rain, snoozing. There is one floc that Darius tolerates, which is another vampire floc, number 36. Darius rarely communicates with them but often tries to push them, always in the same direction, towards the temple. Darius admires this floc's handsome looks, for they are almost as beautiful as he is, so he wouldn't mind adding them to his collection in his temple as long as they kept is a secret as well.

Solomon the Great.


Darius is a good friend of mine, if I could call him that. He doesn't commune telepathically as most floc do, so it's impossible to talk with him. He simply nudges me or pushes me from time to time- perhaps one day I should see if there's a method to his oddity? I also find it odd that while most flox attempt to communicate in any way possible (telepathy, writing dialogue down, etc.) Darius goes out of his way to make sure he never makes a sound. He has communicated with me once or twice, and is pleasant when doing so- if I do recall the last time he 'spoke' to me was to reassure me of my appearance.

Floc Name ;; Count Solomon
Reason ;; Count is a general title for many vampires, such as Count Dracula or Count Von Count. I figured a name including the suffix would be fitting for this handsome floc! His official name, however, would be Solomon. Solomon was mentioned in the bible as a king, however my reason for choosing the name is quite different. I think the name sounds authoritative and suave, something most definitely fit for the Solomon I have in mind. Of course a kingly pride and power comes with the name as well, along with a sense of self-importance. I thought this name not only sounded interesting and appealing, however also showcased a bit of the personality I have in mind for this lovely floc.

I'm no gorgeous creature, that's for sure. Otherwise why would people run from me? I must be a sort of monster. There are some who find my handsome, and among them are liars and the delusional. I figure I must be at least somewhat 'pretty', per se, for not all of society to see me as horribly ugly. I'm actually very thankful for that, after all being a hideous monster is one way to end up on your lonesome forever. I have a friend named Darius [ Segie's tryout for #37 above ] who insists I'm not scary- this irritates me to no end. Saying such a thing defies all the logic put behind my thesis- of course I must be scary, else why would I be feared? He messes with me often and while being rather annoying I must say I enjoy his presence from time to time. Due to this input I assume that I must be rather large and scary, however not completely unappealing. I suppose if you'd like to know more about my thoughts in a more sequential fashion look below in the writing section. Go on, get out.

Solomon always thought he was quite large and horrifying, as when he went out others would always run from him when they saw his fangs. He'd had lots of past experiences with people fearing him or verbally tormenting him, so he'd began to assume over time there must be a reason why people disliked him. He began to think he must be horribly large and scary if others were so edgy to even come near him, so he thought he must be larger and more bulky than most. Solomon also began to think that because he was large and demon-esque ( as some had called him a demon before, he figured that he must somehow resemble them for there to have been such an odd confusion ), he must also be rather monstrous. He figured he must have devilish teeth and long twisted horns, three eyes and large claws- mutations that would justify the other's fear of his very presence. He'd been told that all flox had keyholes in their chests, so he knew he must have one of these. Solomon knew what his cape looked like, but he never really acknowledged his pelt pattern. He always assumed he was plain, monsters don't have lovely elegant pelts and monsters aren't beautiful. He figured he must be dark and dreary, like a shadow or a raincloud- which is why he selected such a bright and flamboyant cape to accessorize himself, to draw eyes away from his presumably bland fur. Solomon has been told by many that vampires such as himself, so thus he decided despite his monstrous appearance he was sleek, lean and built so that despite the popular opinion he'd still be appealing to some- while not very many would admire his 'beauty', he rejoiced in this fact because it meant that he wasn't a hideous monster like he'd thought when he was much younger, but rather a fairly attractive monster. However monsters are still simply that, monsters. His assumed reality of himself is why he presses himself so much to be great-
to prove he's not the monster that
he thinks
he is.

While Cain's narcissistic personality can be rather irritating, we've had civil interactions. I like to practice painting from time to time, and Cain is a generally decent model- though he'd be better if he held still for once instead of floating about. I don't mind his company, in fact I'd almost say I admire him in some respects. His determination to be great is simply awe inspiring.

....NightShade doesn't need a mirror to tell him what he looks like. He says he is as plain as any ordinary wall paint, he may even have some chippings and peelings dangling off him in dispair. He never asks another Floc for his appearance, if they choose look at him, they will know what he looks like and they are the only ones who seem to care about it in the first place.
....Never could he be as beautiful as the Flox' he sees floating about on his way around life. They have patterns of mysteries and divine meanings that blow his mind from time to time. Being a vampire, he knows he is not an 'ordinary' Floc if any of them could ever even be grouped into a 'normal' catergory. Yet, he knows that deep down, he is a base coat, the background to a galaxy where other Flox shine brighter than the stars.
....He doesn't have to know what he looks like to know that he is a Floc, nor does he need to know that he will not win the Most Beautiful Floc award. However he is content with being the base coat to a galaxy full of beautiful and radiant Flox that shine brighter than the stars.
