The pasture Serenade resided in was far to big for the animals it contained; a total of three horses. Serenade herself, the wise stallion Blitz, and Connie, an amber champagne appaloosa mare with about 35 different personalities she alternated between on a daily basis. The fence was low and broken down, in need of a repair for the last decade. All three horses could jump over it with ease if any of them so desired, but they simply didn't. The only one who had toyed with the idea for more then 3 seconds was Serenade. Always being the most feisty and adventurous one.
The task was too hard to attempt in broad daylight, and the woods on the other side of the sorry excuse for a fence were dark and dangerous at night, even during a full moon. So the break out was simply reduced to wishful thinking.
Serenade knew summer had come and hit them full force when the bug population skyrocketed and the local children would come by their pasture more often and feed them treats when Peter wasn't looking. Summer also brought with it old but familiar smells, ones that signified long hot days were just on the horizon. However their was another scent that came along this year. A scent in the forest that was usually faded by the dew the marine layer brought in by morning. So faded Serenade couldn't tell what or who it belonged to. It was just strong enough for her to notice it's presence. It never faded anymore that it already was, which suggested that the person of interest passed by the pasture every night. Serenade's curiosity finally one over, and she decided to camp out at the far end of the pasture and see whom was trespassing on her turf every night.
