What are Derpitties? wrote:With the new discovery of the Earth-like planet of Oof, came countless other scientific discoveries. When scientists and astronauts first explored planet Oof's grassy and peaceful terrain, the first life forms discovered were little cat-like organisms believed to be able to grow from 2 inches to 15 inches tall while on fours. They were found to be the ancient ancestors of cats and the explorers, thinking the little animals were great research material, took a few back to
Earth. During the trip back, only a few had survived, and those that did had....well..become a bit aloof. When an article was published with a picture of the exotic animal, several people reacted with curiosity and pity towards the creatures. Protests against using the animals for research rose up, and eventually, the government decided to let the people have their way. The new species, newly named Felis derpus, or derpitties became great pets for several families and individuals across the globe. Over time, very few derpitties began showing characteristics of normal cats. A few were born with noses and regular mouths instead of their unique mouth and no nose structure. Some even began developing separate toes. To conserve the species, scientists attempted to prevent the changes from happening. It worked for the most part, but occasionally there are some derpitties that exhibit a few characteristics of normal cats.
