Story;
The sun was setting in the distance as Nico padded briskly into his tribe's camp, a tiny bird clamped in his jaws. He placed the miniscule catch on two other small pieces of meat apparently meant to be the food pile. After releasing his prize, he made his way to the edge of the camp, plodding wearily with his paws sore and blistered. Settling under a willow tree, Nico began licking his bleeding paw pads tenderly and cleaning his fur. Whenever another Kiamara passed by, he merely looked up fast enough to give them a quick nod, but then returned straight to his business once more. When he finished he went to sleep. His fur was still dark with water and sticky with mud, but he didn’t seem to notice and continued to rest.
This was the custom in the tribe. Wake, hunt, clean, rest, never speak unless necessary. Wake, hunt, clean, rest, never speak unless necessary. Not one thing ever changed. Until one day when everything changed.
It was a normal day in camp. Nico was just getting up from his nest-bed and was making his way through the bushes to hunt when he heard a shriek. He rushed out, thorns tearing at his skin. When he finally squeezed out of the gap in the undergrowth, he caught sight of the most interesting creature he’d ever seen—yet the most familiar. A foreign Kiamara! Its bright colors and clean pelt stood out amongst the tribe’s custom dark fur and rugged look, and it was gazing at all of them with…was it fear? All the Kiamaras in the tribe knew of the others that lived in the world of technology, but never made to contact with them—they were afraid to face them. Nico started. We’re both fearful of each other…that’s why we’ve never gotten along! He saw his tribemates trembling and backing away from the newcomer, eyes flashing in confusion and shock. Nico, on the other hand, approached the visitor. He smiled.
Nico wondered if this Kia spoke often where it came from. It tentatively crept forward. “H-hello,” it said, tipping it’s head. Nico noticed it was a male. “Hello,” Nico said in his low, rumbly voice. The other Kiamara seemed to gain confidence when he replied. “Why doesn’t anyone else speak?” he asked, looking around at the others. “Are you the leader?” Nico laughed deeply. “No, no. We do not find the need to speak. Seemingly, you do.”
Light greetings and small talk followed for a while, which eventually progressed into talk of the modern world compared to life in a tribe. Nico and the newcomer talked all day, and for days after. He told stories of his life and so did the other Kia, and there was no lack of enthusiasm when they passed knowledge on to each other. The other Kiamaras in the tribe seemed to think poorly of the visitor, and smirked whenever he and Nico passed. Nico didn’t care. They were missing out on such wonderful and exciting stories! He felt sorry for their lack of imagination.
Eventually, the modern Kiamara had to leave and go back to his home. He asked Nico to join him. It didn’t take long for Nico to decide to go. Nico lives in the modern world today, learning all he can and traveling all over the world. After all, life is short and there is so much to discover.

STORY
I knocked and tripped over several tables as I scrambled
out the door, adrenaline pumping in my blood. I gripped a sack firmly
between my teeth and kicked the door open with all my might. Several
yells sounded from behind me but I dared not look back. My feet thumped
on the stone ground as I ran through the street markets, weaving my way
through shoppers and crashing and bumping into crates of goods and items.
I heard many angry shouts but I didn't care, all I thought about was escape.

Image

Steps pounded behind me and I urged myself to go faster. Finally, I ran into
a dark forgotten alley. Silence. Good no one was chasing me. I leaped on an
empty wooden crate and opened the sack carefully. Gold. I counted the coins
and nodded to myself satisfyingly. At least I was going to survive, today. But
for how long? For I was a thief, a stealer. I had no one to go to and no one to
trust but myself. I learned this long ago by making a big mistake, but now I
can do nothing but growl at myself in disgust. The life of a thief was not easy
and very harsh. You were to be in constant danger and fear of your capture
and everyday, you would wonder where you would go, where you would rob
next. I sat down and let my screaming muscles rest, closing my eyes.

"He's right there! Capture him! He's the one who stole my gold!" a voice
boomed behind me and I heard several scrambling footsteps. I jumped
up and opened my eyes instantly. I saw the kiamara that I had robbed
earlier running towards me followed by reinforcement guards. I kicked
a few crates to slow them down and jumped over the high wall covered
with slimy moss, overgrown and unkempt. I tied the sack securely at
my waist and raced towards the outskirts to the forests. Suddenly, I
felt something nick my ears and turned around just to see three fast
moving objects heading towards me. Bullets. I ducked, tails between
legs and entered the dark forest. It was dark and the brambles and
twisted roots threatened to trip me but I skillfully jumped and leaped
over them with ease. Silence. Again. Surely no one would go to this forest.
It was known to be filled with beasts of all sorts but I didn't care. I just
wanted to rest peacefully. The round moon shone ever so brightly in the
sky and I sighed and climbed up on a high yet sturdy branch of the tree.

"Don't move." I heard a growling voice behind me. I felt the cold tingling
of the all too familiar gun resting on my shoulder and I tried hard not to gulp.
I was caught. It was over. I guess my life wasn't so bad then. But I could've
gotten a few more bags of jewels, or coins. At least it would be a painless
death. It wasn't so bad, was it? A shot was better than a stab in the back
or torture. I closed my eyes, all hope lost.

Suddenly I heard a kick and a sound of muffling and the gun was violently
tugged back from my shoulder. "Go, run now!" Said another voice and without
a second thought I paced away into the night, the moon to guide me.Whoever
that saved me I was grateful for that. But who was it? I had no time to look back
except run forward. I am Nicodemus, the thief and I will always be on the run.

❧ Jayson

    ❧ Name;
      Jayson

    ❧ Story;
      Story applies in anthro.
Sometimes, I wonder why I hadn't picked up a sword sooner.
I've been training with all sorts of weapons since I was very young (mentor was an amazing teacher). To be fair, guns hold appeal to me as well (though my training with them had not started until I was much older, due to my mentor's immense dislike for them). However, swords are my weapon of choice. I don't like knives (their short ranges are another annoyance to work around), bows & arrows (accuracy requires patience and the ammunition is hard to carry), or staffs (I understand their use in defense, but attacking with one seems impractical). Having used each of these weapons thoroughly, I'd say my thoughts on them are validated. Swords provide easy attack, defense, and can be as lightweight as need be. They don't look as threatening as a gun, leaving room for the enemy to underestimate you (which can be a fatal mistake on their behalf). Mentor wouldn't approve of my use of blades, though. But it hardly matters now; he isn't around to stop me.
I doubt that any feeling could compare to the feeling of swinging a blade. You can hear the blood pumping in your ears, the adrenaline coursing through your body. It's all building up to one moment; the moment when your weapon meets it's mark.
Of course, the thing about swinging that blade is it's never quite as satisfying when it doesn't come down on what it's supposed to.

The short sword I held sliced nothing but air when I swung it. I huffed in frustration.
"What's with you today?" The girl who had just dodged my blade stood across from me, raising her eyebrows.
I shrugged, taking a deep breath to calm myself. My practice wasn't going well that day. "I think I'm gonna go take a walk."
"Okay," the girl said with disappointment, quickly replaced with a playful smirk. "I guess that means I win, then."
I rolled my eyes, slightly frustrated with her and her light attitude. "Sure, whatever you say."
I walked towards the door, not stopping until it was safely closed behind me. I stepped onto the city's streets and took in a breath of the crisp night air. I kept my sword tucked away in a sheath on my back, hidden by my jacket, just in case.
I'd been training with that girl for awhile now to keep myself sharp when not in combat.
I walked through the alley and turned a corner onto a more busy street to take my break-- or so I thought.
The moment I stepped into the open, I heard a voice from behind me.
      "Turn around slowly."
Judging by the sound of it, the owner of the voice was in the alley I'd just come from. This probably meant they'd been watching me. I cursed my careless behavior. They must have followed me here. I should have looked to see if I was being tailed. . .
Grudgingly, I turn around and step back into the darkness of the alley.
"Good," the voice says. "Now surrender your weapons."
Although I still could not pinpoint where the voice was coming from, I determined that they must be around a corner here somewhere (though where they could still see me).
So I raised an eyebrow. "Why should I do that?"
I heard a slight chuckle from deeper in the alley. "Because I have firepower, and you don't."
"Fair enough," I said, still without a trace of fear. I dropped the knife hidden up my sleeve, though left the sword hidden in it's sheath.
"Thank you for your cooperation," the voice said as a young kia I recognized as a crime boss walked out of the shadows and looked me in the eye. "It will be remembered."
I snorted. "What do you want?"
He smirked. "Cutting right to the chase, I see. Impatient?"
      "Very," I growled.
"You shouldn't be, vigilante." He spits out the word. "Not when your life is on the line."
I stayed silent, glaring at him defiantly, unafraid.
He stared back, unfazed. Eventually, he broke the silence with a smile that didn't reach his eyes. "Dark blue eyes. Such a unique color. It would be a shame to see the life fade out of them. So, let's get right to business: you want to leave here with your life, and I want to have a certain vigilante stop interfering with my operations. I propose a deal be made; I let you walk free if you let me and my operation be."
I paused for effect, as though considering his offer. Then I shake my head slowly.
"You know, I might do that. But to let you live, just so you can keep your crime running? That just wouldn't be responsible."
And then, in a blink of an eye, I had the weapon out of it's sheath.
I leapt towards him, raising the sword above me, prepared to attack.
And for the first time that night, my blade came down on more than just the air.

That night would have been just like any other, except for one fact. As I stared up at the stars before I went to sleep (as I do every night), I could have sworn I saw the face of another staring down at me in disappointment. I have never before believed in anything of the supernatural, so to have seen something like this among the constellations was unusual for me. However, with the blink of an eye, the apparition was gone.
To this day, I cannot say if I had truly seen it or not. I doubt it; It was merely a trick of the mind. But I will let you decide whether you believe what I had seen was real or not.
But either way, I know whose face it was, and I know the reason for why they appeared so forlorn.
Dearest mentor, why can't you understand? I only kill for the right reasons. . .
      I smirked.
      . . . and then some.
